well so far his story is kind of matchy matchy w/Tongo's

Yes it is. My mind is whirling, what is true and what's not. :dunno: The only 2 people who know the absolute truth is Dewani and Tongo.

am more inclined at this point to put the meter up to 7/10 towards SD being instigator....of course LOL that could ''change'' --- I want to know who cashed in on the jewelry

Unfortunately I can't find Mbolombo's testimony. This is XOLILE MNGENI's judgement dated 19 Nov, 2012, which includes Mngeni's statement.

http://www.saflii.org/za/cases/ZAWCHC/2012/202.html

From the judgement -

Monde Mbolombo was the first person to give evidence in this trial. Although he does not directly incriminate the accused, his evidence is important in completing the overall factual matrix of this case. He was the person who was approached on 12 November 2010 by Tongo to assist in acquiring the services of a person who would be able to kill the deceased. According to his evidence he thereafter elicited the assistance of Qwabe who was an old acquaintance of his.

He gave the particulars of Qwabe to Tongo. On 13 November 2010 as from 18h00 there was communication between himself, Tongo and Qwabe as to Tongo’s movements, with the Dewanis that evening.

On 14 November 2010, Qwabe came to his house. He asked Qwabe what happened and Qwabe told him that what needed to be done had been done and that it was all over the news. Qwabe was looking for Tongo at that stage and stated that Tongo still owed him an amount of R5 000,00, because they had agreed that they would be paid R15 000,00 yet they were only paid R10 000,00

Thanks. I wonder... if he didn't implicate SD then, because he didn't want to admit to knowing too much etc, and now he is implicating him here to be the poster boy of the trial and get a reduction in the sentence he has coming to him.... vested interest in further lying?

FvZ is ever the gentleman. Always greets, is courteous even to State witnesses.((really -- ??? not so sure about thatMOO
1531
FvZ: Is the truth not that you'd seen CCtv footage of what took place at the hotel that afternoon?
MM: That's not true. I was not truthful in my involvement but I know what happened.
1533
MM: The footage reminded me which is not to say I didn't know what happened.
1535
MM: I said to MQ that ZT was looking for a hitman.
1536
MM: I didn't know at the time who was to be killed; just someone.

I am open to looking at it that way too. Everyone is out for themselves, can't deny that. I really hope Dewani testifies, I think he will.

State rests. Van Zyl up.

VZ: I listened to how you handled the telephones with some amazement, do you remember all that detail 4 years later? Is the truth not that you had seen cctv footage of what had taken place?

Mbolombo:that is not true

Not sure on him testifying. There are quite a lot off odd things that really need explaining. It will depend on how close to the wind they think he is sailing when we get to the defence case.

state ends examination.

Van Zyl cross examines asks MM if he really remembers or if he had seen cctv footage of hotel

having his phone in one hand, cordless phone in another...

MM: I remember, I was just never truthful about my involvement.

Van Zyl: did you see the cctv footage recently.

MM: yes I saw it in september. The footage just reminded me, not to say I didn't know what happened.

Van Zyl: on that Friday, what exactly did you do to involve yourself?

MM: I called Abongile (Qwabe) telling him Zola was looking for a hitman. It started there in the back office. I know what happened on that day. I know that it happened at the back office.

MM: Yes.
FvZ: Tell us about it

MM says no arrangement was made. Says it was just mentioned that they should meet up.
1551
FvZ: ZT didn't talk to MQ from the hotel with you that day, correct?

MM: Correct.
FvZ: At that time you didn't know he'd do it, correct? You still thought you'd discuss it?
MM: I didn't know then.

MM: I said to Abongile (Qwabe), there's a guy, Zola Tongo, who's looking for a hitman. He said if he was going to do the job... How much. Zola then came, I said here speak to him.

Mbolombo confirms that when Abongile (Qwabe) asked what the job was, he told him a woman needed to be killed.

Mbolombo concedes that after concluding his conversation with Qwabe he was not sure whether the job would be done.

Mbolombo says when he heard how much Tongo was going to pay the hitman, he too wanted to be paid. He asked for R5k.

MM says they never discussed where, how or from who he was going to get paid.

I've done the same cruise with Princess, fantastic. 4 of us did a helicopter trip over Mt Robson on a Rockies tour the week before the cruise. I expected it to be a Chinook, but it was a little glass bubble. It wasn't part of the package though and arranged as a one off through the courier. We were OK with that but wouldn't have done it with a local cab driver. Can't remember how much it was.

What are the odds!! I loved the Princess inside passage cruise!!

van Zyle will be ripping Mondo's version apart tomorrow, imo. He's letting Mondo say a fair bit without interruption or accusations. Very clever tactic. :D

At one point, VZ says R5000 is quite a lot of money and Mondo agrees. I'm not sure if VZ being facetious because then he says, so you mention to Zola Tongo you want just R5K , which makes it sound insignificant.

It's all so weird about everyone ''not getting paid''.........talk about dumb luck or is this a three stooges skit?

were they conned or did they misjudge their prey or

did the client out fox them intentionally?

it is a wild roller coaster ride

MM makes it sound like he was working on a casual commission basis in supplying the hitman. Then Mgneni was brought in. Flies round the honey pot.:gaah:

MM said he didn't think MQ would do the job himself.

MM: He came from a decent background and attended the Model C schools.

I thought this was an odd thing to say, suggesting Qwabi was not of a criminal mind himself but 'knew a man who would'.
