#DewaniTrial Judge Traverso says Qwabe and Tongo both told the court that Mbolombo was just a link. Nothing more.

And so at the end of day 18 of the #dewanitrial, the key outcome is the following...#sabcnews

Traverso: Mr. Qwabe & Mr. Tongo went to great lengths to minimise your role. They said you were nothing more than a link. They said you had nothing to do with this. All they did was ask you for a hitman, and that's all you did

MM: I would say there was something.

Traverso: What?

MM: that I was involved in the killing or don't I understand the court's question?

Traverso: Why would both Qwabe & Tongo go through such great lengths to say you had a small involvement? Other than to put Abongile and Tongo together.

MM: I don't know why they would say that.

FvZ: Were you aware Qwabe's nickname was Spra?

MM: No, found out when incident took place, when police taking statements.

Cross-examination of Mbolombo is now over.

yep DT getting answer didn't like --- ooopsie

Judge to MM: Tongo, Qwabe went to great lengths to minimise your role, just a link. Why?

MM: I don't know.

In re-examination the State's Riley asks Mbolombo about meeting Qwabe at police station, what was repeated in English?

MM: Said I must tell truth as it is.

Re-exam.

State -SR: You said you spoke to Mr. Qwabe at the police station in Xhosa & you asked him to repeat it in English. What did you say?

MM: that he should tell the truth because I am actually not the person who did this. They are the people who did this.

That other tweeter made me think court was ended for the day! It's not!

Re-exam ends. Proceedings adjourned til tomorrow

well there was a bit of a ''twist'' -- Monde did indicate that Shrien was involved --- DT then decided to end questioning

  • #731
The only thing that absolutely shines out to me is that Tongo and MM still feel they have a lot to lose by being completely truthful, so they have both evaded or 'not remembered' parts that don't suit them.

Sadly, it makes their entire testimonies look very unreliable. But perhaps the judge will do a Masipa - say they're not good witnesses, their testimony is unreliable, but take it into account anyhow, as she did with OP?

Finally, Mbolombo is excused. What a confusing witness! #DewaniTrial

Four years later to recall who said what during telephone conversations is a bit of a stretch for most of us......moo

Not letting any of them off the hook so to speak but to spend days and days trying to resurrect conversations does not seem to be time well spent.

Doesn't seem to have revealed much ((to me)) perhaps others see it differently.

I didn't read it like that, I thought VZ did a similar thing as he did with Tongo, building up to the supposed ransom plot and finishing with that. It's not a surprise that MM implicated Dewani, but VZ was quite smart in response: "It would be impossible for all of us to tell the same story"; "If only you were all saying the same thing..."

If it had been going badly, I'm sure VZ wouldn't have ended questioning there, he'd have carried on and stopped at a better point.

Am just grateful we have ended hopefully the telephone recall game.....for now

I don't buy the DT's ransom version, maybe, a botched robbery....but Qwabe and Mnengi have nothing, no remote shed to hold her captive. No spare phones to make ransom demands and then ditch.

The community of Khayelitsha wouldn't tolerate these two bringing Anni into their township. She would stand out immediately. The community would be outraged and report them. They all live under each others feet, everyone knows each other's business.

I could believe a robbery gone wrong, but I think DT is covering their asses because SD was released absolutely unharmed. They may be overshooting though imo.

I seem to be the only person whose thanks button disappears while we're all posting quickly. I have to go back and thank after. It's really puzzling me.

I wonder if THAT was the reason defence went on about MM's not revealing his real address today? It made me wonder if he had something to hide there. Maybe that's defence's intention, to suggest to the judge that his 'secret' home had been set up as a hostage hideout?

Thanks for the video. At the beginning you can kind of see though the plastic bag he his holding and there is a quite large object in there. Maybe the card (although didn't Tongo say he never received a card and there was just cash in the plastic bag). Of course it could be just an envelope with the cash in.
He also looks up at the camera as he sits down.

I see he looks up at the camera again whilst on the sofa. He knew there were cameras everywhere in the hotel so he knows there is evidence of what he's doing.... so why would he do anything suspicious whilst in the hotel?

I could be wrong but hadn't Tongo already pointed out the camera to him in the earlier video where they were together when the cleaner came in.
