My take was the state should file dockets (paperwork) re info given to the TV programmes.

Panorama may have caused problems for the state case, they're in over their head now. :bricks:

police searched for a second suspect after Mngeni.

PH: We were searching for Simphiwe Gom, aka, Mawewe

The true identity became known later.

Traverso asks Mopp to lead the witness with reference to fact, not hearsay

bbm that's rich given that VZ was doing that continuously with witnesses MOO

Yes, at some point he must have realized the police mistake. I can think of no good reason he wouldn't have told them. It's turned out to be quite convenient for Dewani's defence though, hasn't it? He can't be held responsible for anything that was said during that call now.

Ignore this if I'm misunderstanding, here. I'm finding it really hard to follow.

If it would have been in SD's best interest to make the call himself but his brother did, instead, and never identified himself because he was pretending to be his brother, my guess is that reason would be this: SD didn't feel he could make the call and make it sound legit. By that time, he might have been so freaked out that he knew he couldn't pull it off.

Hang on. If defence is allowed to present social media as evidence, shouldn't prosecution be able to present Dewani's online presence as evidence too? All the gaydar stuff etc?

yes!!!!!!!!!!!

#DewaniTrial Cpt Hendrikse says Dewani identified the ring as Anni's wedding band.

where's the engagement ring?? wasn't that one more valuable??

I've read or seen 2 different descriptions of the ring, one said wedding the other engagement ring. Probably hard for tweeters in court not to make mistakes when they're listening and tweeting.

Mr van Zyl also summed up his client's contribution to the fiery email exchange as, 'Shrien says he loves Anni', referring to bullet point number three of his e-mail.

'I love you. You know that. Surely this is the most important thing. The rest will just come,' it read.

Intriguingly, the two-page print out of the correspondence revealed that it was an innocuous – if impersonal – message from Dewani, which was obviously followed by a more intimate confession in person - that triggered her fervent reply.

Two questions I have - 1) Why are Shrien and Anni emailing each other on the 5 November, 2010?

2) Why does Shrien Dewani sign his email to the 'love of his life' with, Regards..... and as the DM pointed out, why is it written in bullet form? And I love you is number 3.

Very sad way to start a marriage, at least it's nice to know the day she died he was a little more affectionate towards her, but even still, the last footage of Anni with SD, they are posing for pictures for a photographer at the restaurant, immediately after the picture is taken, they move away from each other. :(

'Regards'!!!
How odd. I wondered if it was an auto email signature but the lower case in 'regards' somehow makes me think not?

I hope Anni's voice is given more consideration than Reeva's was. Two women who express upset and anxiety about their relationships both wind up dead not long afterwards. Both leave clues in their messages about what was going on in their minds. I hope Traverso at least bears those words in mind, since Anni is clearly upset about Dewani's apparent change of heart (yet again) and despite his words of "love" - he comes across as detached and unavailable to her, particularly when he says he's not forcing himself to be with her... he's just forcing himself to be happy! I'm sure Anni couldn't hear enough of that!! How flattering.

As each witness comes and goes, I move from 99% sure this was a botched ransom plot to 100%. I suspect rape became an option and Anni refused at the cost of her life. There is nothing at all that gives me the inclination this was a organised hit. An email where an argument, love and reconciliation is expressed? Or because the day after his wife is killed he mixes up who put what ring where? No way in a million years will the judge convict him on anything with this as the states case. And we still have a witness to Tongo's confession coming up and if he mentions something in his statement that only Tongo would know, then it's game over and this poor bloke can get on with his completely wrecked life in relative peace.

I too found the emails strange. According to S.D. statement on the same day the emails were sent 5.Nov. Anni went to the doctors in Bristol about how to increase chances of falling pregnant, and according to Dewani he states that on the same day he asked his brother Preyen to sort out flights for their honeymoon in S.A.
The emails from Dewani sounded more like he was writing to a business partner than to the girl he had just married, the girl he loved. Seems odd reading those emails, when according to him the day was so full of exciting things re: planning honeymoon and seeing doc about getting pregnant.

Just caught up on today so far, thanks for all the tweets. Does anyone else feel that each additional witness in this case makes it less and less clear?! [emoji52]

I'm with you, thank goodness our tweeters are giving us a précis of what's being said from time to time, otherwise I would have NOOOO idea.

KC, I re-read SD's statement and you're right, November 5 is the day of the doctor's visit! And Preyen and Sian organising the SA honeymoon destination that SD chose. And on that same day, Anni is sending heartfelt emails to her husband of hurt and threatening to pack and leave! Why Anni couldn't talk to SD face to face is suspicious to me. I agree about the business sounding reply to Anni. She must have been devastated to know she was not loved and was an annoyance to him! I bet anything that his emails to the man he was 'in love' with, sounded nothing like this.

Also, I don't like the idea that when a husband is implicated in the murder of his wife, he has access to his wife's medical records. When a wife is alive, the husband can't ask to see her records and vice versa. This makes me wary about what VZ said were on those records or iow, how the Defence team chose to interpret them. JMO

I agree, it does give some idea what is being said at least, must be frustrating for the tweeters though, trying to convey what is being said as best they can. Sometimes its just one big mess when Judge, Barrister and witness seem to be talking at once. :p LOL
