Acts of homosexuality and bisexuality are punishable by long jail terms in Dubai. I think someone may be up to mischief too, on twitter. Posting certain services 'wanted' there, just as news broke about Dewani. With all the publicity his case has gathered, I really can't think he would be foolish enough to try and stay over there. I don't think authorities would like it at all.

I'm not condoning the stance. I just don't want to see Dewani to become a martyr for the cause, and become a victim of real injustice. I don't believe he has been so far, with Anni's case.

Perhaps Dewani is really heading to Thailand to do some kick boxing!

Very sad for the family and disappointed about the outcome. It's a dreadful reflection on the South African justice system.

For me, it doesn't help that Dewani reminds me of a certain Remy Ramsaran.

If Dewani took the stand, then it would set a precedent that ANY criminal(s) could just pin the crime on someone else to shave years of their jail term without any solid evidence and testimony with numerous holes, contradictions and probabilities. This ruling has stopped the farce in its tracks and the only injustice was Dewani being extradited in the first place in my opinion.

I guess this thread will be kept open until we know about whether there will be a the civil trial in the UK.

Anni Dewani's mother has accused her son-in-law of being a "coward" in her first comments since Shrien Dewani was acquitted of arranging the murder of his new bride on their honeymoon.

"He didn't have the guts to face us. He was a coward in the court, always a coward," said Nilam Hindocha, speaking to MailOnine.

Mrs Hindocha also condemned Mr Dewani for leaving Anni alone with her killers.

"I don't think any other men would leave their wives like that," she said. "'I kept asking why he left Anni all alone with those men. How could he have just left her with them and he was freed and not even hurt?"

The Hindocha family are said to pondering whether to launch a civil action against Mr Dewani in the UK.

In a statement on Monday following the trial's collapse they said the decision left many questions unanswered as it meant Mr Dewani, who led a double life, would not have to give evidence or face cross-examination.

Mrs Hindocha also reportedly disputed the claim that her daughter would have suggested visiting Gugulethu, the Cape Town township where she was killed, on the night of her death, saying Anni "is not a girl who would want to see Africa".

Mr Hindocha confirmed that once the trial is over, legal action will begin against his son-in-law.

Anni told her father that Dewani had told her that Shrien did not believe in sex before marriage.

'The wedding was a drama and false. I am going to sue him for that.'

He said the purpose of a civil action against his son-in-law was 'not for money but for the loss of my daughter who left this world for nothing.'

The options for legal action include suing Shrien for leading Anni into marriage without revealing his sexuality and for compensation for the money the Hindocha family laid out on the three day £200,000 wedding.

Anni's father said he agreed to pay two thirds of the bill and will also ask for receipts from Mumbai to be disclosed to the court in London to prove how the money was spent.

The five star hotel in India has already provided evidence of some receipts and the Hindocha family have engaged a top London lawyer, who has a successful track record in winning compensation, to take up the legal action once criminal proceedings have concluded.

Does anyone know the name of this top London lawyer? I thought I read his name somewhere but can't find it now.

I hope they go ahead with this as I think they can accuse him of deceptive behaviour. 70% proof is required in civil cases.

@yoltsa @LA_JANSEN Correct - but was prior agreement by "active association" - has its own set of requirements - wouldn't be met for Dewani.

I have looked at the photo --seems pretty minor to me....in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the D's did that themselves to garner sympathy....pretty minor stuff there no real damage ....MOO

This is an excellent article and it explains exactly how I think it explains the attitude and values of Dewani and his family to his being gay. Maybe the Hindochas should get the author of this article to appear in the civil court to explain the situation Dewani found himself in.

Dewani's sister is a lesbian and sat with her gay partner during the trial. I very much doubt him 'not being able to come out to his family' was a motivation to divorce , let alone kill.

A complaint has bèen lodged by HETN against Judge Traverso regarding her conduct to prosecutor Mopp during the trial. They want her suspended immediately and removed from the bench if she's found to have behaved improperly. Seems to have become a racial as well as legal bone of contention?

'HETN chair Lucky Thekisho charged that Traverso had undermined the court's authority and integrity by showing prejudice to black prosecutor Adrian Mopp.

"Judge Traverso and the entire defence counsel are Afrikaners. This in itself is not problematic," he said.

However, he believed her socialisation and background were pertinent in the context of so-called ethical breaches.'...
