During the 2013 IAWP (International Association for Women in Police) conference, I presented the case study of the case that became widely known as the "KZN 26" case. The evidence in this case, against 26 accused, turned on my evidence and resulted in a record judgment. The case has since become a decided case based on the cellphone evidence delivered. 24 convictions on 486 charges. A true BENCHMARK for Organised Crime Prosecution !

I have been awarded with the "Service Excellence Award for Women in Police - KZN (2013)"

"Each case has its own merits. Sometimes I have to go to the crime scene"

PD says when alleged triggerman Sizwe Vumazonke (SV) hired the rental vehicle, ZS was not yet in the picture. Botha agrees

He was also not yet in the picture when Jayde's residence was first pointed out to SV

ZS only comes into picture on 15 April 2015 when they unsuccessfully tried to track Jayde down (she was killed on 21 Apr)

Data analysis does not place ZS at scene at time of kidnapping in Kabega Park or her murder in KwaNobuhle

So you agree on the state's case, ZS was not present at Stellen Glen when Jayde was kidnapped? "I agree"

Botha is asked to explain the term 'scouting'.

PD says there is no allegation of scouting on 11 Apr. There is no reference to anything that happened that day

While the indictment makes no reference to 11 Apr, Botha mentions in her report where ZS's handset was on that morning. Why mention it?

"The relevance is that ZS communicated with SV, he then travelled to the Linton Grange tower reception area"

Are you saying he went on his own at night to scout out residence of Jayde?
"I can't say why he went to that area (but data shows he did)"

PD says he is not making any admissions with regards to the accuracy of the records but he must rely on the info before court

His cross-exam will be based on the state's version & evidence

PD says the only communication between ZS & SV took place at 7:43pm on 11 Apr. He was unable to reach SV

"If there is seldom communication then a certain sudden frequency and then dies down again, it indicates to me that something is going on"

Data of ZS indicates his handset received reception at Linton Grange tower at 6:20am. During same time, SV's vehicle drove past the complex

Further records do not show that SV was in the company of ZS. Cannot say they travelled together to the vicinity of Linton Grange tower

PD says on 15th, records don't show ZS was scouting Jayde's house.
"They weren't in same car but frequent communi & picked up same tower"

Botha believes this amounts to scouting. PD is perturbed by this.

PD says if was living in Greenbushes & had good reason to travel up & down Cape Rd. You also can't say if he had business in Fern Glen.

We now move to 16 Apr. SV phones ZS for first time at 04:26am. Several further calls are made

The last call is at 06:20am. Many of the calls in-between were not answered

They end up in different areas. Struandale & New Brighton respectively

All we have is a hypothesis that he scouted the area

Call records show no contact between SV & ZS on day of abduction & murder. Does this not go against hypothesis that he scouted the house?

At 05:51, SV's vehicle drove into SN's residential Str. At 06:03am, the vehicle drives to Kabega Rd

At 6:26, SV phoned SN, both receive reception at Linton Grange tower

At 07:32, both phones pick up reception from KwaNobuhle tower

"No in the same vehicle but they passed the same points"

PD says it may just be coincidence that SV & SN were in the same areas at the same time.
"Well they were in communication so it's very poss"
