Botha puts it to her that Henri never giggled, ans was slightly sobbing, and was saying please.

Desai says it is quite clear that he stutters. Philander maintains she didn't pick it up, and doesn't sound that way to her.

#VanBreda Philander says the system they work on did not pick up the estate. B says that's because she spelt it incorrectly.

#VanBreda P says they don't use Google maps. Henri used Google maps to find Allermann street which is why he gave P that address.

#VanBreda Judge quips that P should ask 'Mrs de Lille' to update her systems. @TimesLIVE

#VanBreda Now we listen to 2nd giggle which was in the recording that was leaked on social media.

#VanBreda Botha puts it to witness that it is a stutter not a giggle. (Botha trying really hard with this one!)

#VanBreda Botha says he was slobbing & stuttering. P sticks to her belief that it is a 'naughty giggle'.Won't admit it could be something else.

Botha says he referred her to 10 Allermann Street because that is the address he picked up on Google, offered to meet them outside. What else than trying to assist is he trying to do?

"He was trying to assist," Philander says.

Ambulance dispatch spoke Afrikaans to Henri but managed to get the address from him within 2 minutes, Botha says.

Philander says she did the background work and handed over the info.

Botha - Why did it take you so long? Is it because you didn't believe him?

Yes, she replies.

NB. I haven't heard Galloway say one word today.

  • #1,185
What's coming across is Botha is criticizing her perceptions - I'm not sure Desai should be allowing that.

  • #1,186
Botha says Henri told her they were bleeding form the head because in Australia they send an ambulance immediately, and treat it as a real emergency.

Judge Desai asks what percentage of calls to emergency call centre is prank calls.

Philander - in last six months until Feb this year, 35 374 prank calls from 238 350 calls.

Galloway is starting to worry me! Is she there? Awake? It's all so boring so far! I like his reference to our ambulance system being so efficient!

  • #1,188
She says the second giggle was brought to her attention afterward.

[Obviously someone else thought it was a giggle too]

Botha asks about Philander's calm demeanour, and how she was trained.

Is that also a way you calm down a caller? She says it is.

Botha says it appears Henri toward the end of the call is calmer than he was initially. Could that be because you stayed calm? Yes, she says.

#vanbreda After Botha puts it to her, Philander agrees that she took so long to call an ambulance because she thought it was a prank call.

#VanBreda Philander says in 6 months since Sept 2016 to February 2017, 35374 were prank calls out of 238350 calls. More than 10% were pranks.

#VanBreda Botha asks last question to Philander:Could your calm nature have influenced Henri's demeanour?P says yes.Court adjourned till 2pm

Botha and his client are intent on manipulating the court in a sickly fashion and oh so obvious. In the first week, HvB appeared sorrowful and childlike throughout the proceedings but still capable of taking notes, he's an intelligent child.
HvB has his haircut before the hair analysis witness, he ALWAYS wears his hair short *cough*.
HvB helps set up the speakers and projector, he's polite and caring.
The audio of the emergency call is played and he suddenly cries and is distressed, he's moved by his own words.
This will go on until we'll all be reaching for the green bucket.
I hope Galloway is doing an adequate job, she might think the evidence speaks for itself, but I'm not so confident.

What a shocking statistic that number of prank calls is. It's actually a bit under 15% of all calls, i.e. roughly 100+ per week for each of the 15 operators. Who better to judge a prank call, Philander or Botha. Peoples lives hinge on getting these first responders out to a call. Galloway should be jumping all over this. I'll be surprised if she says anything.

It seemed weird to me that the accused was helping with the setting up of the speakers and projector..............

Methinks it was all done for effect ......"what a kind, helpful, sort of guy HvB is" - quite odd that it was allowed and I suspect the Defence Team's idea.

Lizette Albertse to testify next.

Medical doctor at Stellenbosch district hospital.

11:30 that morning, Henri was examined by her. Albertse says she was asked to note his injuries and that he had been a victim.

She completed a J88 while he was present.

She noted his length, 1.84m, with normal build. She would describe him as a tall and big man.

I heartily agree with you. It was so unprofessional! What other country would allow an accused criminal at his trial for three murders and an assault, etc. to help the setting up of the speakers and projector! Don't they have a person who works for the court doing such work? Botha probably got him up to do it so that he would get some publicity for "helping" (his public image)! It seems to have been the responsibility of the State - not the Defence.

Albertse noted injuries including scratches, a superficial knife wound, scratch above nipple, right leg had an old scratch, but she noted swelling and bruising. Swelling above left eye.

She didn't see the injuries as serious.

If she feels need for medical attention, she would tell police to do so. She didn't in this case.

HvB said he pulled the knife out of his side. What happened to that injury? Probably one of the scratches.
