du Trevou describes a loss of consciousness of 2h40m a mild-to-moderate brain injury

https://twitter.com/AJGMolyneaux

Defense neurosurgeon expert Dr. trevou (far left) in court. We are back for the continuation of Henri van Breda

He concludes that this period could include post-traumatic amnesia, loss of memory following a head injury

.which would result in medical treatment(which didn’t happen)so most likely a post traumatic amnesia rather than unconsciousness.

Adv Galloway: what is the likeliness of a person with no medical history or without med intervention cud recover after 2h40min

Dr Trevou: it's unlikely, that's why referred to as post traumatic amnesia and not loss of consciousness

Adv Galloway: what about the question of malingering(pretending to be ill)? Dr T: it's impossible to exclude

Adv Botha: about to ask question on result of MRI scan, Galloway Objects. Desai says this is new evidence

Adv Botha: this is not new evidence

It seems it's back on the table, HvB may choose to testify, don't ask me how? lol Galloway said as much.

Did anyone notice the way Botha turned to Galloway when she said the above? To me he gave a look of disdain/contempt maybe. I got the impression that “No” he would not be testifying........??

Can someone explain how/if he can change his mind and testify when permission to do so after defense witnesses has been refused?

Desai told Botha that the court could make adverse inferences if he HvB testified after the defence witnesses as he could tailor his testimony. Botha understood that but still left it open that he may change his mind. Desai said the accused had been testifying first for generations in SA.

Why waste time with the appeal then!!

Cross-examination by State advocate Susan Galloway continues.

Length of time related to extent of seriousness of injury is controversial, Du Trevou says. 2h40m hours, mild to moderate injury.

2h40m unconscious and recovers on his own? That is unlikely, Du Trevou says. Post-traumatic amnesic period possible.

Definite impact to brain resulting in loss of memory,Dr Du Trevou says.Disturbance of function of brain, very common even if minor.

Adv Botha asks if he saw Henri #VanBreda's MRI scan. He did, Du Trevou says. Judge Desai says this is not in evidence.

What did it show? Its normal, except for two minor congenital abnormalities (which he was born with).Coincidental, Du Trevou says.

Botha rests his reexamination. Judge Desai picks up - DrT says no oxygen to brain leads to brain damage within a few minutes.

Desai asks about decision making after a concussion. DrT says functioning is impaired.Varies on damage of brain.10 days to recover.

Desai: was Henri able to operate normally after a 2h40m unconscious episode. DrT says yes it’s possible.

DrT: The period prior to consciousness: retrograde amnesia(more severe).Amnesia after consciousness regained(post traumatic amnesia)

Which causes patchy memories coming through but not certain.

DrT is excused from stand and we adjourn to tomorrow morning for a new witness.

Judge Desai asks about losing consciousness due to loss of oxygen. Can cause brain damage within a few minutes, Du Trevou says.

Dr Du Trevou has jokes! Says Stormers often score tries with concussion.

Du-Trevou: Concussion can affect decision-making.

Possible for person who has been concussed to function normally, Du Trevou says.

Dr Du Trevou concludes his testimony. Adv Botha says defence has two witnesses for tomorrow. Adjourned to tomorrow at 10:00.

I didn't catch that Hag, but it's strange that Botha is using HvB's evidence from his plea statement like he will take the stand.

Thanks so much, Prime, for your updates and to everyone else for comments and, as usual Prime, for the splendid afternoon tea! Look forward to more of both tomorrow.

And HvB is supposed to be running out of money, so why did Botha have it adjourned. He's always the one complaining - witnesses have to be flown in blah, blah, blah. I don't think Desai is buying any of this doctor's fanciful yarn aka 🤬🤬🤬🤬-and-bull story. The defence could do without their expert witnesses.

As for HvB's alleged brain function disturbance, I think he's seriously disturbed but not as a result of the events of that night. Only a seriously disturbed and deranged person could carry out those executions, see what happened to the members of his family, not shed a tear at the scene, or afterwards, but cried silently with his head in his hands when Dr Anthony, the forensic pathologist, read out the findings of her autopsies 18 months later. He makes me want to :puke:

I agree JJ. B is playing the long game. He must know HvB is going down.
