City of Columbia looks to stay ahead of coronavirus curve | wltx.com

COLUMBIA, SC - As coronavirus cases spike in states across the country, the City of Columbia is looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve.

“Everything is on the table," city councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine said. "If we see the spikes that other areas in this country are seeing, then no regulation, nothing that is within our legal purview to do will be off the table for us to consider.”

The city's mask ordinance is one of their biggest defenses against the virus, according to Issac Devine. That's why, in a meeting on November 10, she anticipates council will extend it. "We are also going to consider looking at enhancing the penalties regarding the mask ordinance so that people know how serious this is for us and our community," councilwoman Isaac Devine said.

I'm wondering if this is correct since it's exactly the same number as Monday?? I was expecting about 100 more than that.

DHEC: About 180 new cases of COVID-19 reported in K-12 schools Tuesday; 1,956 total

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Twice a week, the Department of Health and Environmental Control updates the number of COVID-19 cases across the state associated with grade schools. Both public and private schools are included in these numbers. The number of cases in each school is cumulative -- meaning it’s the total number of cases since the fall semester began and not just active cases.

DHEC does not provide any information about how many cases are still considered active.

I want a blue envelope!

DHEC, UofSC roll out new, random COVID-19 testing program

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is working with the University of South Carolina to mail out invitations for a free COVID-19 test to random people across the state.

The blue envelopes with the invitations are being sent to 32,500 random people across the state across all backgrounds, races, and ethnicities. DHEC says ages five and older could be selected.

The project is called “South Carolina Strong” and it aims is to get a more accurate idea of how many people in South Carolina have been infected with the coronavirus, according to the project’s website.

The antibody and virus tests are free, voluntary, and confidential according to DHEC.

The first round of testing begins this fall, but DHEC says they plan to send the envelopes out quarterly until fall 2021.

My in-laws live in SC and they do not practice safety measures. I keep trying to talk to them but they're attitude is that they aren't going to stop living their lives because of a pandemic. I'm ok with that thinking, just be cautious, wear your mask, keep your distance. But they don't.
