Southwest Flight Attendant Tries to Boot Hooters Waitress From Plane Over Clothing

There are many parents that are annoyed that movies are shown that may not be suitable for children on board. They either contain scenes of "implied sexuality and or violence. Many parents and other groups have commplained. But the airlines are going with the times and the "desires" of the adults.

So in an a vague analogy, don't watch the movie. Oh yeah, If forgot, you can't change the channel, leave the plane or "choose" not to watch the movie as again you are in the air.

Lets look at the fact first and foremost at what "Hooters is all about" her "choice" of employment where "she is expected" to display her "wares" and "depend on her "sexuality" for tips and "cater" to men.

It is not so much her choice of dress, it is the conditions upon which others are subjected to her dress.

A girl watlking down the street in a short dress or skirt, you may be for 5-10 seconds and then shake your head. But being held "captive" as in her own personal audience on a plane with families and children.

I do not think she is that bright, gee, do you think she depends on her body and looks to get by. You can "profile" a person from their actions' or lack thereof and have a "fairly" good idea of other personality traits.

People who do not depends on their "sexuality" or bodies(except of course "entertainers")learn to develop more and better "quality" character traits.

I agree also, you are a "paying" guest on an airline, but unless your name is on the side of the airline and it is your own private plane, you abide by the rules of the airline.

From the Smoking Gun.

Female employees are required to sign that they "acknowledge and affirm" the following:
  1. My job duties require I wear the designated Hooters Girl uniform.
  2. My job duties require that I interact with and entertain the customers.
  3. The Hooters concept is based on female sex appeal and the work environment is one in which joking and sexual innuendo based on female sex appeal is commonplace.
  4. I do not find my job duties, uniform requirements, or work environment to be offensive, intimidating, hostile, or unwelcome.
So I guess this girl was SO shocked that the "Hooters" work contract does not duplicate real life and people may be offended by the "Hooters" uniform(or the "equal" thereof") on a plane.

Would you take your kids to Hooters.....by the way, my answer to that is No.

She was not at work and she was not wearing a hooters outfit.

Uh-huh. When she stood up, she was careful to pull her skirt down- and the waistband was well below her hipbones.

The viewer comments on the Today show thread speak volumes...these people saw the show and noticed that she flashed her parts...this chick just wants attention and now she has it. :D

http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/09/07/348617.aspx

I just noticed that this happened 2 months ago...why hasn't she gotten over this yet? IMO, she just wants $$$ if she's going on national TV 2 months after the fact.

--->>>Well that was my entire point, WE have a very small amount of material to deal with here. Guess they were lucky the skirt didn't fall to the floor when she stood. Fluctuating physics. I do think we should probably stop calling IT a skirt, new fashion term = JUSTA-band.

Do they sell them by the hip bone measurement since the 'waist' is not involved?

I just got a new idea for a NEW product, but I am not revealing it here.

We get news from downtown Bejing, China faster than from SWA.

Oh. Okay. Apparently, the mental picture I've always had of you was wrong. :blushing:
All my hotpants are in the Smithsonian.

BTW how hot was it out by you these last few weeks? good grief!

Go back and look at pictures of her standing up. Look at where the waistband of her skirt falls. You can make it out even though she has her shirt pulled over it. Then check out the distance from waist to hem. Keep in mind she offered to pull her shirt down at the waist to cover her midriff that was exposed. There is no way that that microskirt was covering her nether regions like it should, imo. Keep in mind that the shirt was hiked up at the waist.

Editted to add: perhaps the problems was when she was walking down the aisle when other passengers were seated. I'm sure they got an eye full!
I did look at that picture IM and I agree with you. If the shirt was pulled up, I can also see the skirt being too low in the frontal area. There sould have been visuals above and below the skirt. This girl is full of it. I also see your post that this was 2 months ago. Buzz called it. She winked at everyone and now she wants her 15 minutes for it.
If I were her mother I would teach this gal some common sense.

I am still gobsmacked that she took this to the media of all places.

JBeanya, her mother is, at the very least, part of the problem, if not most of the problem; she passed her own values on to her daughter, and now is defending them.

I agree Buzz. Earlier I posted that I think this is more about the Mother and the attorney than about the girl. If that mom doesn't get it, the girl never will.

Camper, design a cleavage coverage bib, a velcro skirt lengthener, and whatever else you think might work.

Wellll, they already make those cargo pants that you can fold up and snap with the installed loops in order to MAKE shorts outta yer pants.

Skirt could be made the same way, then when there is a COLD snap, you unsnap yer folded up skirt and let er hang down over your 'thingies'.

The sewing machines in the designer studios are probably already making stuff to engage in the free publicity.

Buzz you missed my invention idea, hee hee. It is differnt.

Wonder how her doctors appointment came out?

Next thing we know, they will be putting advertising on women's panties; Eat at Joe's, and the like.

IMO, Southwest is fighting a losing battle if they are going to have someone approve the attire of every flyer - they'll never get anyone on the plane. That girl was wearing enough clothing to cover all her naughty bits - more than many of the other people I have seen on every flight in the last 3 years. I don't like it either, but it isn't my job to approve of other people's attire (or lack thereof). Heck, if I look around at the gate and no-one is nekkid, I figure I am lucky that my current crop of fellow passengers are at least a fig leaf or two up the rung of the "civilized" scale. And even BETTER is if I don't have to bathe in sanitizer, hold a scented paper towel to my nose, wear earplugs or scrape debris off me before the plane lands.

GMAB, flying is enough of a crap shoot these days - every plane is overbooked and late and sometimes were are forced to sit on the tarmac for HOURS. I'll take the underdressed girl as a 6 or 8 hour delayed flight seat-neighbor over many many others I have been trapped next to or near in a hot, stuffy plane full of angry, bored, hungry, thirsty people. I bet she had at least had a bath recently, wasn't 3 sheets to the wind or suffering from intestinal "distress" - and bonus - she wouldn't have been sweating buckets while we waited, not wearing that little outfit.

I am so over being the nudie police - waste of time to be hung up on such things. WHO CARES - they are just bodies and we all have one and if over age 2, we are all familiar with the differences in males and females. Don't like it - then don't LOOK! I would NEVER go out "underdressed" that way (well at least not since I hit 35 and even then, it was only after dark) but it isn't up to me to tell others what to wear. The girl wasn't naked, she wasn't gonna be on the plane grinding up and down a pole, or crawling up the aisle, and no-one said she was acting lewd or nasty - what she wears really isn't any of Southwest Airline's business. Too bad someone didn't teach her (or Britney, or Paris or Lindsey et al) to keep some things under wraps but Southwest, with their former incarnation as the sexy flight attendants in Hot-Pants, flowing liquor, party plane airline certainly isn't in a position to take over the moral police role.

Just My Opinion, Really

Flowerchild.....Exactly! Once again, an insightful post. Sooooo true. People are soooo hung-up about other peoples bodies. It's a BODY. Big flippin' deal.

I find it interesting that there is no picture of her showing exactly what the outfit looks like when she is standing up or moving about.
Unless there is another picture, the only one I have seen is the one where she is sitting down.
If I were trying to make a case that my outfit was within "decency guidelines" for lack of a better term, I would have had several views of the outfit.
I cannot draw my judgement without seeing the outfit. If she came on in the same length outfit that Britney wore the other day, of course the airline should say something..I think most establishments would. I just wonder if there is more to this story.
Has anyone ever seen Airline, the behind the scenes at Southwest?
I remember the episode where they had to tell a guy he stunk too bad to travel. Poor guy had to wash up and change clothes provided by Southwest before they would let him aboard. I would appreciate that if I were sitting next to him. How do you all feel about that?
There was also an episode that a man was wearing no undies and a kilt I think. You could see his business when he would sit or bend and they made him put on underwear. Do you all think that it was ok for the airline to police his clothes?
I agree...not only would I want to see the outfit from different angles, I would want to see how it was when she was asked to get off the plane. The pictures we have seen and the interview were how the outfit looked AFTER she was allowed to reboard. Of course it's ok.

If her shirt was rolled up under her breasts allowing the bottom part of her "melons" (ala "Pamela Anderson") to show and the skirt was rolled down at the top and hiked up at the same time (ala "Britney"), I would appreciate the steward having her rearrange her outfit to make it appropriate for a public place, during the day.

For the record, I fly SWA alot...and have NEVER had a rude or condescending stewardess. I have always felt that my family and I were treated with respect, as were my fellow passengers.

There is an old saying 'Don't where the uniform if you don't want someone to expect you to do the job.' As I once explained to my nieces, when you see a person in a Police Officer's uniform you assume he is a cop. When you see a woman with her goodies showing you assume she advertising the merchandise that is available. I think young ladies need to be taught modesty. If you have it showing, someone is gonna look.
I agree!

Angelmom this is the heart of the matter and I agree with you 100%.
If that was my daughter, I would give her completely different advice than her mother is.

JMHO of course!
I would also not support my daughter working at an establishment where the environment is so sexualized. I don't think it's emotionally (and sometimes physically) healthy for impressionable young women to have more attention paid to their sexiness than their intellect and personality.
