A male teacher in Barcelona, Spain, was shot and killed with a crossbow this morning, allegedly by a 13-year-old boy.

First reports say the boy, who was also armed with a knife, injured a teacher and her daughter (who was a pupil in her class) and when a male supply teacher came to their rescue, he was shot and killed with a crossbow.

The incident happened at the Instituto Joan Foster. It's not known if the suspect was a pupil at the school. The age of criminal responsibility in Spain is 14.

The Mayor of Barcelona is calling it the institute Joan Fuster. Strange that the BBC have changed the name to an English version?

The boy, reportedly aged 13, arrived late for school and when a female teacher opened the door he reportedly fired the crossbow at her face.

He then shot at her daughter, a pupil in the class, then shot and killed instantly a male teacher at point blank range in the chest, who had rushed in to help. Then went i to another class and threatened another student with a knife. None of the injured are serious. The boy is in detention but can't be charged.

Classmates said he told them recently it would be easy to carry out an attack in the school with “good weapons.”

Others claimed he had repeated several times last week he was going to kill all the teachers before committing suicide but they thought he was joking.
