Because if there is any fallout from this tragedy then some of it may fall on them too.

I think there might be since they did not secure or mark it and had no permission.

"His mother Vicky held Oliver for three hours after his death in the children's hospital, according to Spanish media.

The parents - who 'dreamed of one day having a big family' - visit Oliver's grave every week and talk to him for hours. "

Parents tears for tragic Julen: Town in mourning for two-year-old boy who died in a 250ft deep well | Daily Mail Online

I hope they will try again to make their dream come true. I really do hope they can find the courage in themselves to have more children. Prayers for them.

I would literally feel cursed and that I wasn't meant to have children. I wouldn't take the chance of having another child and having them die in some more painful way. I stopped at 3 kids just because each birth got scarier. There's no reason to believe a 4th would have complications too but I wasn't willing to risk it.

However, I fully admit to being much less willing to take risks than most people. I'm in awe of people who are able to continue opening themselves up despite heartbreak. That's just not me.

I do so hope it's true that Julen died quickly. It's hard to tell with the translation issues but I've always hoped he died when he stopped crying. It sounds to me like he cried and then stopped after the earth fell in. I've been hoping that was about the same time he hit the ground. I'm guessing he had some broken bones. I'd like to believe a rock came down and killed him instantly. 90 seconds of pain and fear is awful.... but it's not hours or days. This is the stuff of nightmares.

“At 1:25 a.m., Julen was found dead, unfortunately,” Alfonso Rodríguez, a government representative in Andalusia, told reporters later, his eyes brimming with tears as he gave details of the discovery.

Julen had been found by two miners and an officer on duty from the national Civil Guard. The toddler’s body was retrieved from the hole at 4 a.m., Rodriguez said.

Julen’s body awaits an autopsy, Rodriguez told reporters. There were few conclusive details, but he indicated Julen had reached his ultimate resting place quickly.

“The position of the body determines that it was a fast free-fall, to [233 feet], which is where he was found,” he said, according to El Pais.

Rodriguez said that a judge in the nearby city of Malaga would be in charge of investigating who should be held responsible for Julen’s death and cautioned that his autopsy results could not be released ahead of that investigation being finished.

Both the borehole and the rescue tunnels would be filled, he added.

Julen Roselló: The official account of the accident so far
Wow he was in ‘freefall’ from the moment he fell into the bore hole until he hit 232 feet !
That’s one heck of a fall and I suspect would have killed him almost immediately. As sad as it is, at least he wasn’t suffering alone, cold, tired, hungry ,frightened and feeling abandoned for 12 days
Poor poor baby - and his parents. I wish I could take their pain away x

I would like to see the exact spot where he was. Surely they must have documented it.

Autopsia de Julen: presenta un golpe en la cabeza y "politraumatismos compatibles con la caída"

Julen autopsy: presents a blow to the head and "polytrauma compatible with the fall"

As horrible as it sounds I’m thankful to hear he died this way. It would have been the quickest way to die. I just can’t bear the thought of that poor baby suffocating or dying slowly from hemorrhage, or dehydration/hunger. Thankful for this tiny bit of mercy. Rest In Peace sweet little one.

I don't know that the fall would have killed him since he landed with his arms above his head. I can imagine that his injuries were likely horrific. I hope the crying Dad heard was as he was falling. But it certainly sounds like the crying stopped when rocks fell. So a very short time of pain either way.

Best case would be if the rocks fell and killed him instantly before he even hit the bottom. I hope that ends up being true. :(

Overnight, heart-wrenching shouts in Spanish of "Otra vez no" - English for "Not again" in a clear reference to the tragedy of Julen’s brother Oliver - were heard from the property minutes after dad Jose Rosello and mum Vicky Garcia were told their son’s body had been discovered before the official confirmation.

They were reportedly given the news by phone just minutes after rescuers made the grim find.

Local media reports claim the tot died almost instantly after striking his head during the 250-foot plunge.

Authorities have since stated they believed the tot freefell 232ft before he landed on the dirt floor.

According to the preliminary autopsy, the tot suffered "severe head trauma".

The head trauma had to come from the rocks falling because there wasn't room for him to get a serious head injury, his arms were pinned above his head because it was so narrow.

I’m thinking of Julen’s parents and loved ones as they are faced with saying goodbye at his funeral today.

May Julen Rosello Rest In Peace.

Absolutely heartbreaking, I hope Julen’s little body was in a condition that allowed for his poor parents to say goodbye to him & hold him one last time.

The head trauma had to come from the rocks falling because there wasn't room for him to get a serious head injury, his arms were pinned above his head because it was so narrow.

I think his head could have also hit sideways against the wall, or in the back if he was looking up. The walls did not look smooth in what we have seen, and being that the shaft was so narrow hitting his head sideways at the wall while falling could well have knocked him out immediately. At least I hope so. It seems the kindest of all scenarios.

Continued prayers for the family.

Snippets from this article:

The boy landed on his feet and his arms were in an upward position, reported Spanish media.

Julen also seems to have suffered injuries due to friction with the rocky walls during his fall.

The government’s representative in Andalucia, Alfonso Rodriguez Gomez, said that given the posture in which he was found, the toddler’s fall into the well was “fast”.

The earth mass covering the hole in which Julen fell has intrigued authorities. One of the most probable theories is that the fall loosened the soil from the walls of the well, which were “very imperfect, very sandy,” said Gomez.

As expected there was a large turnout for Julen’s funeral. I don’t think it was right for media outlets to take pictures of Julen’s loved ones.
