The information that comes from the operation is very small. This morning, from the @cpbmalaga he made sure that the gallery was already two meters away although the rock was very hard. Although, it seems that it has not been possible to go beyond 1.5 meters.

it seems they are going for a third round of explosives as have only dug out 1.5m?
or is that 1.5m left to dig?
i worry the explosives may cause rock to fall on julen if hes in an air bubble?

Can anyone translate properly please?

it looks like italian so google says: Esplosione nel tunnel, minatori costretti ad uscire: c'è un grosso problema /
Explosion in the tunnel, miners forced to leave: there is a big problem/

I am looking for spanish news to confirm.

On German TV (n-tv) they explained why it is taking so long currently. They are hitting the same hard rock down there they also came across when drilling the tunnel. When they use explosives to expedite the process, the miners first need to drill small bore holes and leave. Then, specialists from Guardia Civil place the devices into those holes and leave. Then, after the explosives are used, they need to clean the air before the miners can go back. And they also have meetings all the time discussing next steps and risks.

Three microvoladuras have been carried out due to the "extreme hardness of the rock"
it has already advanced two meters of the four that have to be traveled, as SUR has learned, the work seems to be stuck in a 1, 5 meters for the hardness of the terrain. In order to move forward, even a third microvoladura has been made - from the moment it starts until it ends, it takes about two hours of time
El helicóptero de la Guardia Civil se desplaza a Sevilla para buscar más explosivo para el rescate de Julen

The specialists have made a third microvoladura and the smoke complicates the rescue work.
We speak with Francisco Delgado, president of the Málaga Fire Brigade Consortium.

Thanks for this!

But why is there a helicopter involved?

Thanks for this!

But why is there a helicopter involved?

The one going for supplies?

"a helicopter of the Civil Guard has left for Seville to collect more explosives in case it was necessary to perform more microvoladuras."

I’m wondering if they have changed the plans to drill through a small hole for a camera to be fed through because there is a lot of water being used & it could accidentally flood the cavity

These rescuers are incredible!!! I can’t say enough good things for all the rescuers, searchers, volunteers, and LE that we have seen in recent cases. The worst situations truly have been bringing out the best people.
We just saw little Casey come home against all odds. Maybe little Julen will be our next incredible miracle.

I’ll second that!

No matter what the outcome, those rescuers get an A+ from me for trying so hard to help little Julen. I remember reading upthread how they were anxious to get started and were ready to get down there and search for him. This is just so heartbreaking, all of their efforts to try and save the little guy seems to be met with obstacles. At this point, I truly feel this is now a recovery effort, too many days have gone by for this poor child to have survived this. Plus the air quality for him is not good, with all of that blasting of rocks. I am still hoping for a miracle like everyone else, but prepared for the worst.

I join everyone here with my deep appreciation towards all of the people who showed up to save Julen.

The rescue teams, workers and volunteers there are such remarkably caring and compassionate people.

Each person's role made it possible to keep moving forward in the hopes to find Julen alive. The community and volunteers continued to bring home-made food, water and coffee to everyone there.

The way all of the miners, workers and volunteers stand side by side, and will until this is over, brings tears to my eyes.

They represent the best of humanity and it sure looks beautiful from here.

I can't believe all the issues they've had with this rescue operation. My fear is that they will have to abort it for the safety of the rescue people.
