- was in Madrid this year > police checking his contacts there

The person arrested is Driss Oukubir, the one of the picture and the passport.

He is Moroccan by birth.

The suspect who has attacked an agent of the Mossos d'Esquadra in a check-out at the exit of Barcelona was found dead in his car in Sant Just Desvern, three kilometers from where agents have tried to arrest him by shooting. It is not yet known whether he has died because of the shots fired by the agents or taken his own life.

Two people have been arrested

Catalonia’s regional president Carles Puigdemont says there have been two arrests after Barcelona van attack.

Islamic state claims responsibility

Islamic State claimed has responsibility for the Barcelona attack, the group’s Amaq propaganda news agency said.

This may be controversial-- but I think it's important for people to see what the fatalities/injuries look like.
You don't have to look.
But it's one thing for the news to broadcast that people were killed and injured ; but quite another to see how horrible it is.

Makes me seethe with anger-- the pain this person(s) have caused !!
Just innocents going about their day....
And it's not enough to just mourn with a candle light vigil--Not saying it's unnecessary -- but more steps need to be taken to find and jail/throw out the persons who helped this massacre to happen.
Sometimes an innocent person might get evicted from the country. But it's long past time to be so careful not to hurt anyone's feelings that the entire population of a country is made vulnerable.

I'm referring to terrorists of any background or ideology . Let's say there's a person who hates the government-- so he gets several other people to help him come up with a plan to kill and injure others.
My .02 is that every one of them should be in prison and then expelled from the country --even if only one of them carried out the plot and committed the actual crime.

Greg, I'm also saddened by today's attack. I'm not sure when or if this violence will ever end. I'm sorry to hear you are ill. I just wanted to with you a speedy recovery!
