Special needs child "voted" out of classroom

I was bullied as a child and it still bothers me to this day, many many years later. When the bully is the teacher it is just outragous. A grown woman abusing her position of power on a 5 year old. I can't believe she is still in the classroom, what is wrong with these people? She doesn't belong anywhere near children. Did that make her feel good to humiliate that child in that way? Oh, and what a great example she is to other children! :furious:

You're so right. cali — i'm very sorry for what you went through as a child. as vermontn said, no one can know what it feels like if it hasn't happened to them. :(

From internet googling, it seems there are quite a few people emailing her AND the school. :woohoo: Let's get her voted off the planet!

P.S. The whole "special needs" thing is really bothering me. I don't know if the mom felt that she had to let that info out, but that really doesn't have anything to do with this situation. I feel sorry for this little boy who will have this hanging over his head (special needs) for quite a while when he shouldn't have to.

If the school let that info out, then they should be charged w/releasing private info. If the mom did it, she probably just didn't know any better.

THIS MAKES ME SOOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY.

i was never bullied, but my little sister was. i heat and pushed a kid for her once when i was six and intimidated some other kids that were being nasty to her throughout the years. (yes im just a bit overprotective ...) i went to a quaker ("Friends") school for elementary and middle school ... so I can't even fathom a teacher like this !!!!!!!!!!! i see this more from the mother's point of view, and it is just INFURIATING.

you guys, the prosecutor found that she school/teacher can't be charged. i think that's a load of bull.

and the school hasn't removed the teacher from the class? she should be FIRED and have her teaching license removed (if that's possible).

She's in the process of learning what it is to be bullied!

as an aside, i'm not going to email. i think enough people will. i have to feel sorry for what she has brought upon herself. she's pretty much hated right now.

i do want to see her lose her job for what she did. i do have to wonder how many children she's humiliated in her pathetic life.

I hear you on both counts.

Good morning TM:blowkiss: and I feel the same way. Special needs really has nothing to do with this. I also suspect she bullies children whether they have special needs or not.

as bad as this sounds, actually, from a publicity stand-point, releasing this info can help.

people are likely to be even more outraged to know not only was this a five year old child, but that his behavior was due to a possible disorder, and that the teacher was fully aware that he was being evaluated for this. this story is infuriating no matter what ... but some people may feel more outraged against the teacher and school.

i think special needs factors in for the child because it explains why he has issues making friends. i think she wants to point out her son is not a bad child and does not deserve this treatment. his behavior problems are due to his condition not to willful misbehavior. i understand the mothers desire to explain why the children may dislike her son but the issue for me is the teachers behavior. i do not care if every child in class hates the kid the teacher was just wrong and cruel.

So, where's the apology from this teacher? Where's the apology from the school? The District? Shame on all of them.

I'm appalled & infuriated that this woman has not been removed from classroom. I'm curious as to how long Ms. Portillo has been teaching at this school, would anyone happen to know? My other thought is, how many other children have been subjected to her emotionally abusive behavior? :(

Not that it really matters, but he apparently is still undergoing tests if what the media is reporting is correct. Has he been dx'd as special needs? I don't need to know that, frankly. My whole point is that what the teacher did was wrong whether it was to a special needs child or not. That's all I'm saying.

and you are 100% right. the "special needs" is another angel that gets the story out but honestly if a teacher treats any 5 year old like this she needs her arse kicked.

Thank you for the link ttrachel i voted her out!!
Can that teacher, that Wendy Portillo be arrested for cruel and unusual punishment of a child in her class? That is what it was, cruel mental punishment. Anyone in their right mind would not think of doing such a thing to a child.

Perhaps no action has been taken against the teacher because the school can't prove that it happened? There were 15 other kids in that class. Don't you think that they have been interviewed a bit and asked if the situation really happened? I would think if all the kids were saying the same thing, then surely they would be taking some sort of action. It seems to me that at this point, the little boy and his mom are the only ones saying that this actually happened...

ETA: The article has been updated to include a statement from the school:
The St. Lucie County school district is investigating the incident and released a statement Tuesday morning that reads:
"Ms. Portillo (the teacher) has been reassigned outside of the classroom at the district offices until any further action may be determined."
