I wonder if Dina Shacknai will place a bid on the Spreckles Mansion?

Seems like a place she might want to own. And she is the kind of person who would really enjoy living there, again. Plenty of extra bedrooms for guests and family. Pool parties, etc.

It's a beautiful home. IMO, it will never escape it's troubled history. Will be interesting to see if it sells, and for what price.

Unfortunately, Dina doesn't have that kind of money.......even if she sold her PV house, which Jonah quit-claimed to her after their divorce.........the property taxes alone on Spreckels are quite steep, so without a really large "war chest" or a significant annual income, there is no way that Dina could support Spreckels.

And "thank you" Lash for the pics!

Oh. That's too bad. Lots of memories there for her.

Yes, especially the "murder room", oh, I mean the "make up room". She used to like to put her make up on in there.........lots of natural light.

LASH - Thanks for all of the renovated photos. Do you have one of the UPDATED ADT Security System at Spreckels Mansion? How about it Jonah ?

Lash, the bannister/railing/stairs were only repaired to the original state, correct?

From what I can tell in this pic, they only got rid of the scratches & chips & repainted; the height and design of the bannister/railings were unaltered in any way.

Good observation, bourne
Taking a look at before and after, the height looks the same. IMO just a patch up job; kind of like a face lift to get rid of those scrapes and gouges. So much for bringing it up to standards and making it safer for the next owner.

Hi Bourne!

It sure appears the railing was only repaired and nothing was done to change the height. In my opinion, if a claims adjuster examined the railing as a result of a homeowners insurance claim, no negligence was found concerning the railing height.

I agree. *If* a claims adjuster/home inspector came and took measurements, they likely found the height of the bannister within acceptable range -- although I wonder if there are exceptions made regarding maintaining maximum "integrity" and "original design" of a historic architect's John D. Spreckels' home.

Which leads me to question whether one reason Jonah decided not to alter structurally the bannister and the outdoor balcony where the two deaths occur is that he didn't want to give anyone such as his ex-wife Dina and the Zahaus any legal reasons to sue him for negligence in maintaining his home.

I have to say, I love the new look of the place, much cleaner and nicer IMO. I always felt the home seemed way outdated and needed these updates yrs ago. I would love to see some ghost hunters at that home. If I were rich I would buy it myself. I don't recall the pool there before but perhaps it was. I don't know that the height of the bannisters was ever an issue I thought all bannisters were roughly the same height isn't 32 inches what they come in now days?
