Star Jones is right about Barbara Walters

Well its really neither here nor there since if Baa baa Waa waa wasn't married when she engaged in the affair she is not an adulterer OR an adulteress. That term is for married people who cheat.

I just think Star Jones, as a journalist, should honor her profession in her cut downs.
Walters would have been an adulterer. Or adulteress?

Anyway, I agree with the OP.. it served no purpose for her to reveal that affair to the public. Pretty lame.

Writing an autobiography should be telling the truth. And it sounds like she had deep respect for this man which likely influenced her development as a person which is relevant to her life. It would also have been significant as to the racial issues of the country. Not defending either party - they were both wrong regardless of what their "proper titles" would be. But I don't think you can/should pick and choose what you will or won't tell if it can be considered a significant part of your life and who you are.

I believe a lot here like Valerie Bertinelli and she airs dirty laundry in her book as well. In fact I thought I heard it said that she cheated first in their marriage? So in fairness (though I haven't read it so don't know if she named names) where's the vilification of her? BW did name a name, but she had his permission, so though I know it may have hurt people - though I haven't seen mention of wife/family recently so they may have been long split and known as well.

And again, not defending extra marital affairs at all, but love/passion/lust can be an over powering emotion that can over ride any logical thinking. I've NOT been there myself, but knowing how stupid I HAVE been at times in my love life, I'd be hesitant to cast stones. Won't condone or excuse it, but there but for the grace of God................

Notice that word "especially" in the dictionary definition? It might not be so noticeable if she wasn't a journalist. AND if BW was unmarried at the time of the affair then NEITHER word applys.

I'm gonna stick with the original suffixes and prefixes especially since Star is my age and should know the English language we were taught in school.

ermen ess for women

A friend just finished a foreign language class (Spanish) and they went to great detail to explain that Spanish terms are based on the English language of 50 years ago. That being a more universally stable form of English/Spanish that is understood globally, instead of current American terms. Apparently our changing vocabulary is keeping apace with our illiteracy but I for one don't intend to join it!

The word is "applies" not "applys". "I'm gonna stick with the original suffixes and prefixes especially since Star is my age and should know the English language we were taught in school". That's a run-on sentence. If you had added a comma before the word "and" it would have been alright.

Today many words have lost the suffixes that show gender. Words such as, actor and actress, workman becomes worker, etc.

You're right it doesn't make BW an adulterer or an adulteress, but it does show her character. I have no respect for any woman that would have a sexual relationship with someone else's husband. The fact that she wrote about it and further humiliated this man's wife is worse. Of course, I lost respect for her when she created that horrible show The View.

Many, many people in show business write books like this. I don't see anyone coming down on Janice Dickinson, Hugh Heffner, Cher or anyone else because they told stories. The guy was MARRIED. It seems to me that he's the one that should be ashamed, not Barbara. Star's career is shot to hell. Her marriage is over. She's bitter as hell and she's taking it out on others.
I think people expected more out of Barbara. What about responsible journalism? A good scandal always sells books, doesn't it? She could have talked about her affair, described the guy and his race. She didn't have to name names.

I don't like Star. She should just bite her tongue. She is playing into Barbara's hands. Barbara is after the attention. Attention=$$$. The book stands on its own merit and Barbara is being judged for the contents. Add the extramarital affairs shows me that she is no better than anyone else in the business; and it it is all about the money.

I agree with you. Although I have never had any respect for Walters to begin with. I am not the least bit surprised by her "revealtion." Of course it doesn't matter to me what she writes, I would never bother to buy or read any book written by her.

I understand where you're coming from. I guess this just goes to show that no one is perfect. We're all human and we all make mistakes.

As far as Barbara simply being after the money? I'm not so sure. I wouldn't think that she'd need any more money than she's already got.

She disrespected the vows.

I disagree! HE disrespected the vows.
They were not vows that Barbara had to respect.. she did not say them.

I also disagree that she humiliated his wife as Lizzybeth stated.

HE humiliated his wife. I am not saying Barbara is some angel for sleeping with a married man but ultimately he is the one who betrayed his vows and his wife. HIM ALONE. Had he not cheated none of that would have happened or been made part of Barbara's book.

So does Donald Trump. He's still working and still getting paid for The Apprentice show. So, I believe that money motivates him, too.

What's the old saying? "You can never be too thin or too rich." or something like that... :waitasec:

hi lizzy, You are right! I am the queen of run on sentences. I also do not spell well. And I start sentences with and. :blushing:

I have always admired those of you here on the board that write so well. I read posts by Marthatex and others and shake my head in admiration!

Sorry Glow, I didn't mean to pick on you. I think there are a lot of us here that have run on sentences (especially me), and spell words wrong. At times we're all guilty of it.

I just felt bad for the person you were criticizing. I should have kept my mouth shut.
:blowkiss:

hey! Its all fine with me. When I read what you wrote I thought "dang, this girl is good....wonder if she'll come live with me" :woohoo:
then I could just post away blah blah blah and not have to worry about all those pesky rules!

As for me criticizing a person... yes, I criticized Star Jones.

AlwaysShocked was quoting Star. I was working off of Star's quote, not anything said by AlwaysShocked.

I have one rule for myself in posting. I never criticize a poster. Ever. I may disagree with a post but I don't criticize the poster. I read here for a long time before I started posting. It gave me a chance to see which posting styles I wanted to emulate and which I didn't. Even if someone is rude to me I try really hard to see where they are coming from. My reason for that is because everyone here has a story. They each know things I don't. I really love the posters here that made me feel my ideas and thoughts were welcome. I want to make others feel that way. And lizzie? Don't keep your mouth shut! Speak your truth, lots of us here want to hear it! :blowkiss:

I think that they are basically wanting to make money. Scandal sells. It's such a shame. I look at this folks and think "with all that money what do they need more for"?? At BW age she is basically making money to leave to her family. (I think it consists of a daughter)
I often wonder why a woman that age doesn't retire? I am a lot younger and semi-retired and I love it.

Hey cc!:) I think she is doing less now than what she used to. IMO, she doesn't fully retire because she would lose her status. Money=status. Once she retired, sure she would be invited to a few lunches and parties but that would quickly wane.

I'm one of those who expected more. I haven't read the book but I've seen her promoting on the View and Oprah. All she talked about was the affair, Star, Rosie and Donald. After all the people she has interviewed in her lifetime - not a mention.

Barbara has made a career in itself as coming across as Miss Goodytwoshoes with a touch of class. Even when all this hoopla with Rosie & Star was going on, Barbara tried to distance herself "taking the high road" as she called it. Now, she responds....for money. And it's not just the money at this point imo. A #1 listing on the New York Times best sellers list=status.

I agree - Star should keep her mouth shut.

What's the old say? "You can never be too thin or too rich." or something like that... :waitasec:

Amen!!! Donald Trump is a media 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬!!! I'd LOVE to be too rich and too thin.:) Unfortunately, I'm neither.

I didn't know Barbara Walters was still alive. (Sorry, I know.. that's terrible to say. I don't follow the news about these people though hehe!)

They both need to grow up & get over themselves! Barb. really didn't need to give names about her affair. I don't feel sorry for the man but for his wife and children I do. Star needs to worry about what's going on in her own backyard. I used to really admire and respect Barbara. Now she just gets on my nerves...

ITA, B.W. did not need to publicly name that man. If she wanted to let everyone know she had an affair with a married man, she should have kept his name a secret to protect the wife at the time and his children from that marriage.
I used to respect her and her career. But she has to be aware how today's information on the superhighway works and how easy it is for anyone who would want to find the ex wife and/or her kids 'just to get a comment' would be. Or, even if not for that just think of the public humiliation it may have caused them.
IMO- she invaded their privacy by naming the Senator.
I'm completely perplexed as to why she would that....
