well, mine is attached with a hex bolt, not a slot screw.
(makes it hard to steal)
it would take a wrench to loosen , so if it was loose or hanging, it would be likely someone tampered with it or did not use the tool to reinstall it.

Thanks for the info. Both of my family's cars have had slot screws (as did our previous two cars). Guess it depends on what the dealership uses.

Hi All,

On lunch break until 2pm.

Haven't read anything on here & don't have time until tonight.

I'm at a cafe nearby that has wifi.

Dismukes on the stand the entire time. Defense X-exam. Putting up lots and lots of pics of house, each room, garage, and asking Dismukes on every picture what, if anything, shows that a homicide occurred in that room. Maybe 15 pics have been shown.

Each time Dismukes says that nothing in particular shows in the picture. In the MBR he did say that the sheets could be used as a 'weapon' to strangle. He would not say the covers were 'disheveled.' However, in the girls' BR he did say the covers looked disheveled.

BC's room is not particularly messy. There were 2 pillows on the floor next to his bed. Against the wall is a crib (Katie's crib I think they said). Note: his sheets looked normal but one pillow looked downright yellow (and it was a plain white pillowcase). BC's bathroom looked spotless.

NC's MBR was very messy, with boxes piled, clothes and stuff. Her green party dress was sort of sticking out of a laundry basket but there was another laundry basket on top of that, so the dress was kind of against the wall, partially hanging out of the back of that laundry basket. In the photo they pointed the dress out.

Car mat outside BC's car: testimony that the mat was seen (by JA) on 7/11/08...when she was at Nancy's that afternoon. Cops thought it belonged in BC's car but didn't actually check. It apparently belongs to Nancy's car.

License plate missing one screw. Dismukes surmises that BC could have removed his plate to avoid detection but agreed with Kurtz that if BC had passed by a cop he would have been MORE likely to be pulled over.

Defense is making very good points today. Nothing was obvious in the house to show a homicide had been committed. Things were messy in some of the rooms, but no obvious sign of struggle. Dismukes kept saying that one can commit a homicide without leaving signs or without breaking things in a house.

What else?

It got COLD in the courtroom. I find defense cross VERY tedious and looooong. I imagine that Dismukes could be on the stand the rest of the day.

Oh....a producer from Dateline is there & we talked a bunch. Keith Morrison hated the SNL skit parody done of him & didn't particularly find it funny. She and I yucked over that, cause everyone else loves it. She's a nice woman & friendly (and really tall).

A.L. is in the courtroom. I know her from my volunteer work so we chatted a little. NO laptop keyboards can be used *in* the courtroom gallery. Just the lawyers and court staff. So...the N&O person covering the trial is sitting in a little room at the back of the courtroom and typing from there.

Media is in the courtroom. They use Blackberrys to get their stuff out. Ed Crump is there and a few others who I don't recognize.

Det. Williams was sitting in another small room next to the other one and he was using a computer in there.

How tempted am I to commandeer the court's Internet in a show of anarchy? Ummm... VERY! I have computer & Internet withdrawl! LOL.

Cary P.D. are there. I think there's about 5 or 6 of them. JA Young was sitting behind me at one point but he's moved closer. Other than recognizing Dismukes, Young, and Williams, I don't know the other cops, but they have short hair and look cop-like.

I can't think of anything else at this moment and I need to eat my sandwich so I'll post this and think if I missed anything.

Thanks SG. Keith Morrison drives me nuts. Every sentence is drawn out and filled with drama. It's ridiculous. Josh Menkowitz (sp???) does a much better job with the Dateline stories.

Oh of course the Rentz family and their friends are there. They are just gracious people, lovely in every way: polite, stoic, warm. I don't know how they do it (cope) but they are there for every single session. Krista is there as well. For the ladies: Krista is wearing FABU shoes today and it makes her even taller. I wish I could get a pic of her shoes--they are really cool! (okay sue me, I like shoes).

What else?

Oh I met the court reporter. I have a friend who is a C.R. for Wake County and she knew I was going to catch a bit of the trial and told the C.R. for this trial. So I introduced myself and she was kind enough to invite me to join her and the other C.R's for lunch, but I wanted to go out and see the sun (and post to y'all). They were going up to the court lunchroom so I opted out.

BTW, court was late in starting because the C.R. was late . ;-D I didn't tease her though.

I can't think of anything else and I need to get back to the courtroom.

The elevators are interminably slow so you have to leave yourself a good 10 min.

Later guys!

I could maybe see him removing the plate when he was back in the undeveloped area dumping her body, incase a walker came along. Then, slap it back on when he sees the coast is clear to exit the new subdivision. A stretch, but plausible.

Thank you so much, SleuthyGal!!

  • #188
SleuthyGal, I'm so jealous! I'd love to attend some of the court proceedings. I'm about an hour and 45 min. away, but I've given it some thought to take a day or two off and attend.

SleuthyGal, thank you for your updates! Can't wait for the next.

  • #190
No news?

  • #191
The defense must not be making any points since we're getting no updates. I will certainly be looking forward to SG's update at the end of the day. (Thank goodness basketball is on so I at least have something to watch!)

Didn't someone say there would be no court 3-18-11? I could be remembering that wrong, though.

No tweeting or Faceplace for me. Yep, I am a CyberPro, and unabashed one at that, but I don't see the point for either of those things. I never even read tweets until we lost the video feed on this trial.

This forum is as close as I get to social networking.

Well, CB, you're a man (didn't you say this earlier??) after my own heart. I don't do facebook, myspace or tweetdom. Maybe it's because our professions do so much in those areas, we just don't want it, need it, or like it...

BTW, they're doing it again on WRAL.com, but I am not falling for it this time...

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I am the other person in the universe that does not do fb, ms, or twit.

Defense shows Harris Teeter video & asks undercover officer if Brad appears inappropriate or fidgety. Officer says no. #coopertrial
