Thinking about the "drop cloth"...

Why would BC purchase a drop cloth for painting, AFTER NC had already painted at JA's? Didn't he claim to be unaware that she was planning to paint the next day (Saturday) so what other reason does he have to make a special trip to Lowes for a drop cloth?

Brad did -- sweat, that is. It was noted in testimony...

I don't think they could see the sweat on the HT video, just that he wiped his brow.

Maybe she asked him to. That doesn't mean she had to paint on the morning of the 12th.

That just rolled off of his tongue without him even thinking cuz he had a distinct mental image of that sports bra all rolled up under her arms.:maddening:

Because he put it on her dead body himself.

So Nancy asks Brad to get her a dropcloth and he does...before she even needs it?

But when she asks him for her weekly allowance THE SAME DAY/THE SAME MORNING he never gets it. Not even by Sat @ 2pm!!! How did Brad know that Nancy would never need another dollar again? Hmmmm? And Nancy was FURIOUS about this on Friday, calling him up, telling him off, telling him she hated him.

He has time to go purchase a dropcloth. He makes no time or effort to get Nancy her weekly 'allowance.'

Mmmmmmkay. That makes total sense.

Ok. So why did he never mention this errand to the police? Or to Alice Stubbs during the custody depositions?

She was still planning to paint a couple more rooms there and she was worried about getting paint on the carpet in the upstairs rooms. There are receipts of BC buying paint and supplies already, so why should purchases of additional supplies look suspicious? Also, he left the receipt for the drop cloth on the floor of his car. I think he would have been a little more careful if this was to be part of his crime supplies.

He lied about knowing her 8AM plans.....he already played dumb to JA, so he was backed in a corner when the cops asked what he did that Friday am.

It is possible that he helped with the kids on Friday morning then stopped at Lowes on the way to work. That would not make it a lie. I do believe he lied about knowing how to access his call logs. I'm not sure why wearing 2 different shoes 17 minutes apart is a big deal. It's not like he disposed of the body during those 17 minutes. So if he had something on his shoes, it would have been there for the first trip already. I'm also not convinced those shoes disappeared. There was 1 vague statement by the prosecution and witness about not getting those shoes. I'm sure the defense will ask questions regarding the search for those shoes.

And why does a quick swipe of the forehead mean he was sweating? His forehead could have itched or it could have been a nat.

Firstly..those shoes did have something on them from what I saw..and it wasnt the trip to Lowes that I recall..but the HT trip..

Secondly it wasnt just the wiping of the brow..sweating or not..it indicated he was in a hurry,,he almost knocked the doors trying to get in quickly..pivoting his right shoulder thru that door as it opened..

Thirdly, he just plain looked in a hurry on those Sat. morning Video's...what was his hurry I wonder..two trips to pickup two separate items...Me thinks he forgot to pickup that detergent to launder things..I wonder if LE did a listing of inventory of the Laundry room at the house..Could it be there was other Laundry detergent there that he didnt know about?..

I doubt how much Brad knew just what was where in that house, since he apparantly hadnt been particularly dometic ( Nancy's complaints to her mother)..and obviously had no clue on how to put things away..i.e. clothing items??..

JMO of course...Im no juror..but their collective minds will think inside their personal knowledge of their daily lives and actvities..and make their own impressions..and common sensical opinions of all this information..

Im sorry..but IF I was doing painting or any other work on someone else's house..I would not necessarily be purchasing things to do the job..I would give a list of things needed and that person would have to purchase them..as it is already known..Nancy did not have money to waste..she already was unable to pay her own bills at this point??..Brad held the purse-strings and I doubt he would spend money for expenses for someone else's work to be done!! He didn't use the drop cloth. What other purpose would it have been for? There was testimony from JA that Nancy spilled paint on her floor already (despite Nancy saying how careful she was). JA indicated that she and NC had to get the paint up. So in my opinion, it is reasonable to think that NC realized that being careful doesn't mean not spilling paint, and asked BC to pick one up because she was going to be painting again (either at 7:00 am Saturday or some other time). Other than that, this whole "tarp" or "drop cloth" thing means nothing. It was sitting there in the packaging on Saturday or whatever day they took those pictures. It wasn't used in the hiding and/or disposal of Nancy Cooper. So why have we spent so much talking about it (and continue to talk about it)?

You need to go back and listen to JA's testimony again. Under cross, it came up that BC purchased the paint and supplies. Receipts prove it and JA confirmed it.

I agree with the drop cloth NOT being suspicious ON ITS OWN - as they were doing painting on Wallsburg Court in order to get the house ready for sale. It would make sense to buy some supplies.

HOWEVER....

I do find it suspicious that the running late on Friday was attributed to spending time with or helping Nancy and the kids and not the Lowes trip. And driving to Lowes, buying something, then on to work took TIME.

Being evasive about the trip, making himself look like doting husband and not saying what really took the time is an unnecessary diversion / untruth. If he did it FOR HER - i.e. "I picked up a drop cloth so Nancy could continue painting our house to ready it for sale" - I would buy that. however, I believe at that time he was telling police they were in the process of reconciling?

Evasive. And usually when folks lie or evade telling the truth about SIMPLE things, there's bigger things hiding behind them.

And the other thing - if you always tell the truth - it's easy to remember. Much conflicting data - as one lie almost always leads to another and that is what trips people up - they simply can't remember the complexity of the ruse they have created.

Maybe he forgot he went. It was a quick trip. It's not like he was trying to hide it. The receipt was on the floor of his vehicle. He had plenty of time to get rid of the receipt if he was trying to hide it. It wasn't used, so why does it matter?

So, if some here believe he bought the drop cloth for a sinister plan (and did not use it), the murder becomes pre-planned with deep premeditation. I just don't see that.....but who knows? Brad did seem to have his after-plan fairly well thought out.

He looked like he was in a hurry? The prosecution pointed out that one single thing of him turning his shoulders to get through the doors. You notice they never pointed out him "being in a hurry" in ANY of the other videos in either trip. You know, sometimes those automatic doors are slow to react. Maybe he just didn't want to stop walking to wait for it. But he looked completely relaxed in all of the HT videos.

You could see something on the shoes in the HT video? Could you even tell what color those shoes were? Or what brand? So what exactly did you see on them?

I thought he looked to be walking quickly, but not knowing him, I don't know his normal gait. Some people just take bigger, quicker strides.

And, I agree, the turning to go through the doors didn't bother me as I've done that often (both when I've been in a hurry and when I haven't).

IIRC, Kurtz already said the HD trip was at the request of Nancy for her painting.

BBM To the above. It sounds as though you may have personal experience at the time in question with those very doors. Are they documented to be slow in opening? The timing of his trips indicate (to me) that he was in a hurry. That is my personal opinion. I am sure the jurors will make their own.
