JLY went to his room after checking in, then he left. His card was never recorded again, right? So he had to have left his room door propped in some way to be able to get back in without using a key card. When the clerk went around to put bills under the door around 3 to 4am, is that when he put one under JLY's door?

Did anyone see whether JLY's door was open/propped open during the night?

I was hoping he would have seen it too. Maybe he taped the lock so the door would close all the way. Or again, maybe he never came back to the hotel.

This is his actual door....had to be propped somehow.
No details yet it was discovered propped, however.

The door was not one that had a tight closer...easy to barely crack, unnoticed.

No wonder you make people nervous. "Actual" door. :giggle:

I wondered the same thing. Since he paid by credit card, he didn't have to actually check out. His never coming back may be reasonable.

The witness has clarified for us. The fire exit doors (exit directly from the stairwell) are always locked. Other doors are locked/unlocked manually each night.

Well hon, it is a shot of an actual room door at the Hillsville HI
I promise:woohoo:

The receipt was found in the Ford Explorer - he had to have gotten it somehow, most likely by coming back to the hotel and going into his room.

The camera at the stairwell fire exit door was moved--the same camera he earlier unplugged. So he obviously came back in through that one, yes?

So JTF, is it a nice H.I.?

Well crap. Do they give a receipt when checking in? And an updated one when checking out?

It's really amazing no one spotted JLY coming back in. He was able to move that camera out of range, he didn't appear to run into anyone in the hotel, he got back to his room, doesn't appear anyone noticed his door was propped open in some way, allowing him to reenter his room, etc, etc. He's part spiderman.

No receipt when checking in. The receipt is left, slid under the door (guest room) somewhere after 3 am.

He looks like a vampire.

So if he checked in at 10:53 was it, and he left home approx. 7:15 to 7:30, got gas, stopped to eat at Cracker Barrel, I'd say it took him less than 3 hours to drive to HI.

I'm with you and NCSU. I still don't understand how he wasn't caught on video reentering and moving the security camera in the AM.

Does it help to know that the camera at that time only took one second of view every 10 seconds ?

He got lucky since it was off more than it was on ?

Now I'm getting confused too :waitasec: .

So he (we think):

unplugged the camera
put rock in door
left hotel
came back in
plugged camera back in
pushed camera so aimed wrong

Is that it? What am I missing? Help!
