There were fingerprints on the pipe? I wonder if they were tested? Jason would have had to jump up and grab ahold of the wire on the back of the camera to unplug it.

And I would think that his gloves were in the car...

Here is the kitchen, looking over toward the garage door.
One of the cig butts was supposedly found by the Young family in that "mudroom' area inside the door.

Probably a staging touch by JLY, or even planted by his family after the cops released the home.
Or.....deputies and CCBI folks still smoke... they were there 12 days.
Hit a cig in the garage, and step it out as you walk back inside.

JTF-I'm assuming both cigarette butts were found on the floor. Is this correct? Were both butts found by the Young family or just the one in the mudroom?

He said one inside and one actually in the garage.
He said the Young family / Dr Godwin found them both

Why did he have to return? Was he seen on any camera anywhere to show he did return?

That's what instant checkout is for -- they charge you for your stay (whatever is on your room tab) -- we've all taken advantage of that. Seems to me, that unless JLY wanted to check his bill by looking at it or to present it for expenses at work if that's how it was done there -- and he had a charge card that would show that, he doesn't need it. He's in a big hurry. :waitasec:
:back:

borndem, remember he planned to reenter the hotel around 5AM (propped door with unplugged camera). He was late with Cassidy and the blood, so he arrived late at 6:15am (camera plugged back and rock removed). He knew he needed to reenter to get the receipt (prints at 3AM) and newspaper. He needed the paper receipt so he had a documented alibi for the cops to easily find.

The receipt was slipped under his room door sometime after 3 AM. I'm assuming he had to pick that up, but we may hear that the cleaning staff found it on the floor in his room. He may have returned to the hotel because that was his initial plan (thinking he would be back earlier than 6:15 AM).

otto, we know for a fact he returned and picked up the receipt from under the door.
The cops found it in his vehicle when they seized it 11-4-06.

Here's the other 'gotcha' concerning the video & doors, etc:

JLY checks in, goes to his room, changes his clothes (clothes that, btw, are never seen again). He comes back out and is seen heading down the hall toward an exit to "smoke a cigar."

But he only uses his key card once. What hotel guest would leave their hotel room door open while they go outside and get a smoke? He should have had another swipe registered that night to show him getting back into his hotel room after his "smoke break outside." But there's nothing. His own attorney says he went outside to smoke a cigar.

As JTF says, "BUSTED!"

Exactly!!!

I wonder if a piece of paper or tape would have been strong enough to keep lock from engaging, but thin enough to show contact so the system wouldn't pick it up?

My bet is something like a folded business card acting as a shim, barely keeping the door lock from engaging. As I stated before, those particular doors don't have a strong 'closer' (easy to crack w/o a force close).

But Collins will just say he propped the room door, as he left the key on the side table and knew he was going out for only a few minutes to smoke a stoggie.

I have propped a hotel door numerous times, especially to run down to get a drink or ice. ect.

Betcha JLY rarely smoked a cigar, especially when sober.

That, and you could clearly see him with luggage when the gm was testifying late today.

Few minutes....few hours. Potato Potahtoe.

BTW, where was the butt of that stogie? Betcha no where on H.I. premises, eh?

So did jason go to all this effort with doors and cameras just because he had to go back for the receipt on the floor?

I stay at the marriott courtyard frequently - same idea as these Hiltons and marriott gives you the option of having the receipt emailed to you rather than putting them under the door. It could be the same with the Hilton?

And allll that driving. ugh. Murder is simply too much work. I'm much too lazy to ever commit a crime. Esp. a crime in which I'd actually have to get up from the couch. Phooey.

lol

This has been so long......I know we've discussed some of these things before. I think we hashed the fact that he might have gone back to the hotel to get his cell phone which he left to avoid pings.

He obviously needed to be seen at the hotel the next morning, in business attire, so he could claim he had been there the whole night and was thus off to his meeting. So receipt or no receipt he still needed to be seen to complete the alibi. Didn't quite work out the way he intended. Oops!
