How in the heck does this help JY? Light colored or white SUV at home. That doesn't rule him out.

Not only that, but now it makes her testimony credible since the defense actually called her. I honestly have no idea what the defense is doing here. I guess they thought the other vehicle across the street would mean something. But wow...didn't expect this.

I'm curious too. Why was the house lit up at that time and whose two cars out front? I can't see any reason this woman would lie. She told LE what she saw a day or two after the murder. I'm curious.

I can't think where they're going with this, unless it's throwing doubt on the timeline? (but I don't see that yet) Or going to bolster a future witness we don't know about?? I also don't see JY parking on the street or in the yard. Seems like he'd want to pull as far out of view as possible. Maybe that's where they're going.

Well slap me on the @$$ and call me confused. She just put a white (or light colored) medium sized suv in the driveway at 3:30-4:00 in the morning.

:floorlaugh:

Maybe the defense attorneys are confused??

Oh, Becky, PLEASE bring this up in your closing. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

Guess Chad must be hungry. He cut the judge off.

I agree, NCSU. Puzzling to me. Maybe there were two folks there. Maybe they can identify the van. Definitely did not see this one coming.

Exactly! Why would the defense call her? She did not help their case at all.

I am puzzled why the prosecution did not bring her on first. Always interesting in court.

I don't know it fits fine in the timeline. Could have been as early as 3:00am and he bought gas at 5:30. Works for me.

I've missed the last few witnesses but saw the tail end of this last one.

What is this def doing?!

The mini van being across the street, makes it more likely that vehicle was at another house. So, what COULD have been (imho, was!) J's car in the driveway when he was supposed to be out of town, the def has placed it at the scene of the crime!?

Sorry, I don't understand the def strategy here. This jury isn't going to assume the white/light SUV was anyone else but J! Every other piece of the state's case points towards J. IF I were on that jury, this would be my {hook!}.....well, there's several others too, but this makes the others seem more probable, to ME!

I am utterly confused. She didn't bring up anything which could exonerate JY...instead it implicated him. Where is this going?

So far the prosecution seems to have a rock solid (albiet circumsantial) case. Great reliable witnesses, strong scientific professionals, LE shows to be meticulous, professionalm and careful (aside from two comments thought of as rude, to two different witnesses many months apart). But lacking manners for a moment does not equal corruption.

JFF! What are they trying to do here?????? Please enlighten us!

I'm trying to see this through a juror's eyes. I would question why the cars were there and who they belonged to.

Please help refresh my memory. What lights were on when Meredith arrived?

  • #93
Maybe his lawyers really want him to be convicted! They're doing a great job of helping to ensure that, today.

I see no evidence that points to anyone else, and lots and lots evidence that implicates JLY in this murder. Top of the list for me are the computer searches, hotel evidence, gas receipt and gas station witness.

GUILTY!

I believe it was the front lites and MAYBE one near the end of the driveway?

something like that,

Trying to figure how this could help JY -

1. Get jurors to wonder why prosecution did not call her.

2. Mention of the mini van to help explain that size 10 Franklin.

But absolutely cannot figure how it could possibly help given the time and the presence of a light colored SUV - could have been 3 am or 3:30 am - since he is seen on tape at Hillsville just before midnight - plenty of time for him to arrive there before the newspaper lady. Also leaves plenty of time, as much as 2 hours to get his ratty butt back to King to buy gas. The time frame alone should be worrying to the defense. Holy cow, are they really trying to send him up the river instead of getting him off for murder. Wow, just wow. Timeline is just too coincidental and it works. wow

Please be patient with me as I must make this comment again. Keep in mind, this is only the second case I've followed. I also followed another one which shall remain unnamed.

I was immediately struck by the difference in the judges. This judge appears to weigh things carefully, is more involved in testimony, has a kinder demeaner to everyone involved in the case, and he is efficient and wastes no time. He obviously has a great deal of concern for the time, travel, effort, possibly lost work days, lost wages, childcare, etc witnesses. And I believe he shows respect to the jury, which gains the judge his trust.

In all, this Judge is an oustanding, well-bred individual. He's not insecure and is not interested in politics or television time. All Wake County judges should attend a few seminars conducting by him. He's the cream of the crop.

Oh, and this ADA is awesome too. I thought the two ADA's in the last case I followed were tweedle dee and dweedle dum. And they both seemed to grandstand and have future political aspirations.

When the pros. didn't call her, I had a suspicion the def. might, in an attempt to tweak the timeline and mileage. Attempting to say 'no way could JLY have traveled back to raleigh in that time frame, and stopping 'at that particular time for gas', and only using that much gas, etc. After all, what else do they have to build some *reasonable doubt* other than tweaking those issues? 2 hrs 40 min to get from Hillsville, VA to his home in Raleigh. Leaving at midnight, he'd arrive by 2:40am (maybe earlier if he really was speeding).

3am - 3:30am NYT delivery person sees light colored SUV at or near house, with all the lights on. What 'burgler' would turn on all the lights? What 'burgler' would wash little C's feet, give her adult meds and tuck her back into bed? What 'burgler' would pass by MY's purse and not take the wallet?

5:27am JLY is back in King, NC getting gas, being rude to the clerk, and making an impression.

6:15am ish - JLY is back at the Hampton Inn, turning that camera away (again).

GUILTY!

Well that was really strange. I've been wondering all along why the prosecution didn't put this witness on. It would seem someone that could place JY's car there the night of the murder woud be most tasty to serve up to jury, but they didn't. Didn't even mention her. There has to be a very good reason they didn't call her to testify.

Instead, she's become a witness for the defense. And her testimony appears to be very damaging to the defense. So why call her? Her testimony doesn't really seem to monkey with the timeline. But they seem really interested in the "lit up" house, the minivan across the street and the light-colored SUV that was parked funny. Are they fixing to go hard core and implicate someone else? They are taking a risk with her testimony...there must be something to go along with it that they feel really strongly about. This afternoon could be interesting.

They're hoping to shift the jury's attention to the minivan across the street, is my guess. Also, the witness described the SUV as light, but said it could have been lt blue.
