Awww, poor Terri. She's going to be fine, though. Her parents might think about moving to Australia to be near her & the kids. If it were my daughter, I'd have to go. I'm not shocked to read Bindi is being a rock...Bindi is Steve made-over, through and through. Bob asking for Daddy breaks my already shattered heart into a million pieces, though.

Everyone, redouble your prayers for Terri. She sure needs them right now.

'Where's daddy?', baby Bob asks

CROCODILE Hunter Steve Irwin's toddler son keeps asking his mother, "Where's Daddy?", as she struggles to come to terms with raising their two young children alone.
Terri Irwin's mother, Julie Raines, said today her son-in-law's shock death had been "very hard" on his family.
Mrs Raines said her two-year-old grandson Robert, known as Bob, kept asking his mother, "Where's Daddy?"
But Mrs Raines said her eight-year-old granddaughter Bindi, who made regular TV appearances with her father, had been "a rock" for Terri.

I've been away this week and came straight here to learn more about Steve and family.

found this article (i now see it has already been posted, sorry) and i'm bawling all over again. :(

but smiling too: let's hear it for an 8 year old rock (so long as she's supported totally, let her grab the reins or a while and take power. take control. it will help her, IMO - just don't let her shoulder the burden till burn-out).

***

Sundayrain, your poem is heartwarming and what Steve was all about, IMO.

***

"Professional harpy Germaine Greer", hahahahahhahah!

***

JBean: "Can you imagine this woman ever meeting anyone even remotely close to her dear husbands level?" no. i can't.

***

for me, i think it wasn't only Steve's magic and majesty which grabbed me - it was the family as a whole.

what lovely people.

yes, how lucky they were to have him but how lucky he was to have them and how wonderful a family unit they made.

***

"Thanks for letting me have your dad on your birthday".

you were the real thing.

thanks for sharing yourself with us, Steve.

R.I.P.

Thanks everyone for their posts and links :)
MarthaTex, I loved that quote.

I saw some footage of Steve Terri Bindi and Bob last night, the interviewer says...'who do you think the kids take after'...Terri goes 'well they're normal, so they must take after me' and they've all cracked up, Steve's like 'I can't believe you just said that' but was pissing himself laughing...then the interviewer asks Bindi and she goes and these are her exact words 'me..personally I think I take after my Dad...I like snakes and stuff like he does..she is gorgeous....I haven't seen that much of her prior to this happening....what an articulate 8 yr old!!!

Anyone heard any of the jokes that are getting around?
One of my mates told me he had a joke sent to his mobile 3 hours after Steve died.
Geez, doesn't take people long does it..
Aussies here....have you got the message that is going around Oz?..it starts off...'Crikey we'll miss ya', it is a message of support and to keep Steve's spirit alive...

Shelly, that article is so touching. Steve is irreplaceable (sp?).

Hi Deb :) There are so many people who's lives were touched by Steve, definately a one-of-a-kind.
"The three or four days I spent with that guy changed my entire life," Dr Seymour said.

"My entire life. I didn't think it was possible." Dr Seymour described making a birthday phone call to his son on Father's Day, in which Irwin grabbed the phone and said, "Thanks for letting me have your dad on your birthday".

"The guy was just so genuine," Dr Seymour said.

"I've never met anybody in my entire life that was so genuine."

I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around Steve's death. He was one of those rare individuals whose personality and passion enveloped those around him and created a sense of closeness and admiration. Although the possibility of this type of accident was always a possibility given his handling of dangerous animals, it is still shocking! To have him killed by such a relatively docile creature in such a rare incident only adds to the unbelievability. My heart just aches for his wife and children. In all pictures of Steve and Teri (sp?) together, you can feel the love and admiration that they had for one another. Bob, at such a young age, will more than likely not remember the dynamic, wonderful father he had. Bindi, in particular, breaks my heart! In the taped interviews of she and Steve together, you can see the admiration and closeness that the two shared. They were so very close! I was watching Larry King the other evening and a clip was shown in which Bindi and Steve were joking and playfully punching at each other and Bindi turned to the camera and said "That's my dad!" The way she said it, with such admiration, pride, and love, just caused me to break into tears thinking that she will have to go on without him! My most heartfelt condolences go out to the Irwin family.

Hey Dark:)

Ripper mate is not a term I would usually ever use, but felt it fitting.
You are so damn polite!!
Good for you, I try but fall short sometimes :p

I am sending Sunday's poem to Terri and the family, they need to read stuff like that, it will help them grieve reading how much he was loved and respected.

The video was so tearful...and it is one of my favorite songs from
Luther Vandross who also died at a young age from stroke complications.
Just beautiful, thank you....Sunday
