I'm also from Calgary! There seem to be a few of us around.

Are you still in Calgary or are you somewhere else now? Totally feeling like I must have missed a post or something!

I have been a lurker since day 1 and I apologize if I should have added to another thread rather than begin a new one.

I am also someone from Brad's past and cannot say much more without identifying myself. I do think I may know (or have met RKAB, Calgary123, or Jennifer...but will not say any more).

Does anyone familiar with NC law know whether a Canadian citizen can be subpoenaed for this trial? If so, is there a legal obligation or is more of a 'choice'?

I do have some perspective from my time knowing Brad and will post more. I would have at a much earlier date but I am perpetually time-challenged!

Thanks!

Hello Calgarygal and welcome !

Of course I have to get my 2 pennies in.:) I agree with your assessment that Brad's fight for his children was more optical than anything else. With the recent revelations of him signing things over to his family, it seems to me an optical illusion of caring about two kids he wanted gone in April would be rather important to him in the weeks after Nancy's murder.

As to being called to testify, I think SG hit it on the head for you. In your position I actually see very little potential that those of you from Brad's past and living in Canada would be called as witnesses. Much of what will be brought into trial will be determined based on the penalty being sought. For you all I see two potentials. The court will likely order another mental evaluation of Brad in the event the DA seeks the death penalty. It is possible that such an evaluation may wish to take a closer look at Brad's history so to speak. I doubt such would require travel to the U.S. but perhaps be limited to telecommunications. This would be possible. The second possibility may be during the penalty phase of a trial if the DA seeks the death penalty. However I suspect that such witnesses for that phase would most likely be limited to those in contact with Brad during the time period shortly before Nancy's murder or shortly after. This is possible but perhaps at best a long shot. I wouldn't worry were I you.

Thanks for your insights ! :)

Thanks for the juicy info, Calgary.

BTW, you seem to have the same perspective as BC's other ex-relationships. Especially on the part where the custody and divorce come into play. I remember RKAB and others saying that the divorce draft Nancy put forth to Brad would have rendered him "livid". It did.

I notice the lying effortlessly. Add to that, articulately, most of the time. He lies selectively too, to guard his interests of course! I wish that I could lie as arrogantly and articulately as he does, when I would so choose. Narcissicist...got that one.

He seems to do lots of things "effortlessly".

How about his mom. Did you ever interact with her? Her personality interests me. The parents, the family, how they interact. Of course we don't see behind closed doors. Were you able to know BC when he was younger, to say what you noticed about his social characteristics early on? Or knew someone who would know? We like the beefy details, ha!

I think this abilility to lie "effortlessly" AND "Selectively" is one of the things that are going to be the undoing of BC. When you tell variants of the same story, it is helpful to have an index, so you can align the edges of the stories. In this case, his, uh, "Creative Talents" were pressed into service before he had fully developed his plan, and as a result he has painted himself into a fairly tight corner.

That is why it is a good idea to stick with the truth... much less to remember!

The more I see of this kind of stuff, the more I realize that Sir Walter Scott was a pretty sharp dude! "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise [sic] to deceive" (Marmion, Canto vi. Stanza 17)

Ah yes. My thoughts too, CyberPro. I should have added to my observations of Brad's lying selectively, articulately (most of the time) that when he lies arrogantly, he juts out his chin and looks down his nose (at Alice Stubbs). I want to smack him silly when I see that.

Question: When we see someone who seems to be without conscience, do they have no conscience about things they have done that affect them? For instance, if BC killed NC, where does conscience fit in as he sees what he's done? Does he only have remorse and regret for himself and his punishments for being caught, but none for anyone else of course? How does that mind work? How did it get that way? Any psychiatrists in the house? Not that I can't figure it out myself. Just like hearing from a pro.

Thanks, CP. I'll look up that reference. :blowkiss:

..............snip...............

As soon as Nancy was reported missing (the news broke here shortly after) and Brad's name/photo were throughout the media, I was obviously more than interested and looked for as much information as I could find which ultimately led me here! I have wanted to post so many things but time was really a factor (and the fear of publicity).

I do think he is guilty and my experience with Brad is that he lacks any sort of conscience, lies quite effortlessly, and as others have said, he is a truly narcissistic individual. Initially I thought it may have just happened in the heat of a fight but I am starting to think he was planning it to some degree - I think the thought of having to pay child support, alimony, and so on was completely unjust in his mind and he was looking for an out.

calgarygal:

Welcome to Websleuths and thank you for posting! Your personal knowledge of the accused is most interesting.

I believe at the end of the day, you're going to find that your perspective of Brad is common among MOST who have crossed paths with him. Past and current acquaintances alike! ;)
