Sunny’s disappearance has spawned her own Twitter account, with one tweet noting: “After watching ‘Madagascar,’ I just needed to get out of @VirginiaZoo to see what’s going on outside my enclosure.”

[...]

The zoo has provided a detailed account of the efforts to find Sunny in a blog that has been updated daily. The community has responded enthusiastically, and officials have encouraged residents to check garages, sheds and under porches.

The zoo's director says conditions are in Sunny's favor to survive. But, there are a lot of wolves out there, and tigers, and Thomas, and .... who knows what dangers lurk.
Since Sunny is on the lam, shouldn't they be looking in the sheep exhibit?

No, but found her Twitter page:

https://twitter.com/SunnyRedPanda

she's still missing :(
I wondered what kind of sounds red pandas make ... they tweet. :)

Per a tweet on Jan 26, Sunny was planning to join the women's march "to protest unwanted amorous overtures." Was the march yesterday? Who was that woman in red wearing the dark shades?

As usual, inaccurate reporting abounds - so was she trying to avoid advances or is she dangerously amorous?

  • #45
She is adorable. :)

I hope she is found safe and sound.

No Sunny update? I was hoping she had showed back up doing the walk of shame.

Well . . . it is Sunday so it's to be expected.

NO SUNNY! You're going the wrong way! Come back home where you'll be safe! I hope she doesn't get hurt by someone who doesn't know better.

Other than Thomas, who was the last person/animal to see Sunny? Does Thomas have an alibi? I know this is a family friendly forum, so I'm not accusing, just curious. :)

Hmmm. Hope they check their Internet history.
Hope LE have checked their cell phones, too. Ollie and Sunny may have been communicating. Seems there were problems between Sunny and Thomas, so would not be surprised.

On another note, it is also raccoon mating season and they are similar in appearance to red pandas. Let's hope Sunny wasn't abducted by a lusty raccoon who prefers redheads.

Sunny is still on the lam http://www.daytondailynews.com/news...ek-after-escaping-zoo/kZGUgZCgnri3FXIOTxSvLL/

Ollie apparently just needed some space, but is still missing https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/30/...-bobcat-is-missing-from-the-national-zoo.html
Ollie, a 6-year-old, 25-pound female bobcat, had gone missing sometime between 7:30 a.m., when handlers check in on the enclosure she shares with two male bobcats, and feeding time at 10:40 a.m. “She’s very standoffish,” the zoo’s curator of great cats said of Ollie, calling her “not super friendly. It would be extremely easy on us if she were a cat who would come when called, but that’s not who this individual is.”

This is starting to sound like another sequel to Madagascar.

Funny you should mention that. This is a tweet Sunny made early in her escape:

Sunny the Red Panda @SunnyRedPanda
After watching "Madagascar", I just needed to get out of @VirginiaZoo to see what's going on outside my enclosure.

I was not familiar with the film, so for others unfamiliar with the film, here is a synopsis:

"I met a cat yesterday and a raccoon this morning," [Virginia Zoo executive director Greg Bockheim] said. "We had a person bring us a raccoon and they were certain it was her."

Bockheim said he will be sending out releases sometime today that will include pictures of a redtail fox, a raccoon and Sunny so that people can see the differences.

So, Ollie is also a female. Sounds like Sunny and Ollie could be orchestrating some sort of feminist movement by zoo animals across the country.

WASHINGTON — The National Zoo received calls from the public that the bobcat that escaped Monday may be in an area adjacent to the zoo.

The calls indicated that the 25-pound female bobcat Ollie may be in the Woodley Park and Cleveland Park neighborhoods.

[...]

Rock Creek Park, which butts up against the zoo, is the perfect habitat for bobcats, making the search for Ollie more difficult, said Craig Saffoe, curator of the zoo’s great cats.
