Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal Friday defending his angry and partisan testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, blaming the “vicious allegations” of sexual misconduct made against him by three women for his “sharp” tone.

He also blamed his emotional state on the “unfairness” of being asked to account for his alleged conduct before being confirmed to a lifetime position.​

So....Manchin has apparently said that he believes Ford was sexually assaulted, but that he thinks she is confused about who assaulted her.

1. He also broke ranks with Dems to vote for cloture, the only Dem to do so.

2. It is rare for a Senator to vote for cloture and then vote NO on a nomination.

3. Looks like Machin will vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

4. If so, he will apparently try to justify doing so by seizing on the life ring first suggested by Kavanaugh himself: you'll be politically safe if you can talk out of both sides of your mouth by saying you believe both the accuser and the accused, tie goes to the accused.

Manchin's vote will result in further fracturing the Dem Party, as they've spent decades telling their base that these conservatives are necessary to the party. Its really going to hamper their ability to get a majority in Congress. It will be the final straw for me. I already refuse to vote for or support the conservatives they dump on the ballot locally.

I don't think either party is aware how close we are to having a new, viable alternative party on the left. Manchin helping this unqualified candidate get a seat on SCOTUS is only going to make the future more uncertain for Blue Team/Red Team.

Flake & Collins both voted yes for cloture.

Even if Collin votes NO (LOL) (she is going
for maximum affect by saying she will give a speech at 3 today), and no Gaines: 49-50. Gaines would be rushed back . 50-50.

Pence breaks the tie, and we get a seriously compromised, historically unpopular, historically divisive new justice seated on the Court, with a permanent black stink cloud over every word he says, every opinion he writes, every vote he makes.

Yep, that’s where they’re headed. It’s disgusting, I am so discouraged that all the voices screaming against this nominee are not being heard. When there’s this much divisiveness for a lifetime scotus position, and so many red flags indicating inappropriate temperament and bias, and they refuse to get a better candidate, it sucks.

It makes we want to leave the USA, but I refuse to give in to the corruption. I will put my energy into turning things around. I hope it’s possible.

It’s a familiar story: A candidate for president loses the popular vote, is still selected by the Electoral College, and nominates judges to federal courts who reverse groundbreaking civil-rights laws.

Trump and Kavanaugh aren’t the first.

It happened before, starting in 1876. By the end of 1877, Rutherford B. Hayes–appointed federal judges were presiding over the end of Reconstruction. Jim Crow segregation came back in full force, the Klan rose again with no legal challenge, and an era of lynching exploded across the South and beyond.

More than 140 years later, the potential confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court threatens a very similar reversal of so many victories: in the struggles for women’s rights, against racism, to limit the power of corporations, for protection of the environment, against torture and mass surveillance, for the rights of immigrants and refugees, and so much more.

The confirmation process has revealed to the whole country, indeed the whole world, the reality of sexual abuse and how it impacts—or fails to impact—access to the highest levels of US power.​

Don't get too attached to him. He probably won't be in that seat a whole lot longer. Progressives in WVa have a lot of issues with him.

Why do you say that? The last poll showed him up by 6 percent. Another poll said the majoruty of WV citizens want Kavannah nominated.

I think if he votes for him tomorrow he may get a bump in the polls. Joe is unique...he is highly liked by both moderate Democrat and Republicans and independent voters.

I am sure the Republicans would be glad to win that seat but I think Joe will be reelected. The only way his poll numbers may go down is if he votes against BK but I even doubt that would be enough.

We will see though.

What’s scary is that, with Kavanaugh on the court, any challenge to fight a decision to remove the prexisiting condition mandate will probably lose, imho.

This stupid pre-vote nonsense is so Kavanaugh supporters can hone in on the fence-sitters, in my opinion. Behind-the-scenes political wrangling and quid-pro-quo type wheeling and dealing. It’s been happening throughout this process, I have no doubt.

I think you and many others will be surprised. There's a growing number of people who gave up on voting and will return to the ballot box with the right candidates and issues. Better that blue team and red team stay in denial.

That is why I do not like using identity politics especially when it comes to women.

Women are as individual as anyone else and what matters most to them individually.

We are not clones of each other thinking exactly alike about all things.

Women are free critical thinkers...not caricatures of each other.

The important issues to woman also widely vary as they should.

I think most would want to see a secure economy where they or their children or friends have job opportunities.

Many small businesses are owned by women so they would care about having enough business to keep workers employed or being able to expand their business.

I would think most women want to live in areas that are safe for them and their families.

Yes you are right women are so much more and far more diverse in their thinking as they should be.

Making everyone the same based on gender is totally illogical. Human beings no matter their gender have always been diverse in their thinking. None are robots programmed to think exactly the same on all matters. Who would want that anyway?

I will state that Montana is Red, while there are outliers, Missoula, Bozeman, Helena, reservations, but a lot of folks live in those little towns, and they will literally drive to town, and vote against Tester. When Senator Tester votes against Kavanaugh, he will hand his opponent, a big wrapped Christmas gift.

Seriously, they are singing, "We Shall Overcome". Is this a flashback to 1965?

The protesters were paid? Is that your gist?

I've been doing grassroots advocacy a long time. Yes, the organization's that rally and encourage these people to protest are paid very well. They bring in celebrities, do a lot of social media, etc to get a lot of sincere protesters to show up. The problem is, they recruit protesters who are easily manipulated. They don't wonder why this or that organization is paying bus fare and hotel rooms in DC to protest Kavanaugh, but not when they need cheaper prescription drugs or higher wages or to oppose cuts to Social Security, etc. Many US women are naive about any issues besides abortion or both control or rape. They don't pay close attention or advocate for issues that affect their own economic lives, or are too embarrassed to admit they don't earn much or are afraid of having to live on $1000 or less per month for the rest of their lives.

Sex abuse and reproductive rights groups cultivate these women in their grassroots networks. The politicians like it because its an easy issue for them and involves little or no budget appropriations. Cheap, easy, inflammatory issues. Both sides do it.
