So a person can accuse someone of a heinous crime from 36 years ago, tarnish their reputation, be investigated by the FBI and then just walk away?

Yep, someone can beg for the FBI to investigate their allegation of being sexually assaulted 36 years ago, be denied that chance to have their allegations corroborated, because their alleged assailant refuses to allow the FBI to investigate, testify in front of the Senate Committee staged as a she said (professor) versus a he said (judge up for the supreme Court flanked by a president of the US who trashes her & who praises her assailant), no other witnessess allowed, including a second accuser who the judge has personally tried to discredit before he said - under oath - that he has even heard about such ridiculous, untrue allegations.

So no, if Ford lies to the FBI she can be jailed. And if K. lies to the FBI he will be disbarred and removed from his current bench, the SC off limits forever. No do overs. Same , if K has been caught red handed committing perjury, and/or trying to tamper with witnesses.

Well, he certainly isn't doing himself any favors by hanging around, imo.

IMO, he thinks he deserves it, it is what he has been working toward and aiming for, for years. He thinks no one will do it better than he, and he wants to make sure certain issues are put the way they should be instead of the way they are now. He has an agenda. Period. A scary agenda.

Just imagine how Judge Kavanaugh is feeling.

I honestly don't care how he is feeling. I'd like to think he is feeling remorse for his complicity in damaging yet one more pillar of our democracy, and for being willing to put his own ambition over further trashing of the SC's legitimacy, but I don't think he's capable of either the insight to acknowledge the harm he's caused, nor the integrity to care.

I think sending an anonymous unsigned allegation could do great harm to the credible allegations. Could have been sent from anyone, disgruntled person, or completely unknown crazy person for publicity in the current circus.

I'm also not liking the third accuser who has no direct allegation with Kavanaugh. I'll watch her interview, but there needs to be some serious coorboration (filed police report naming him?) to what she's alleging, and insinuating. Avenatti was a bit sketchy in his interview with Chris Cuomo tonight. I was not convinced.

As far as I can tell FBI can not determine that someone is "innocent of all charges"-they don't reach conclusions.

Actually, they can. The Senate would rather they not. Basically what the Senate is getting this time around is a gold-plated transcription service.

It could do great harm for sure if it isn't true. I think people start out testing the waters to see if they get a response and if they do they become brave enough with time to reveal their identity.
I'm not sure about Swetnick. I could see such a thing happening.
I hope they all get their chance to speak to the FBI. IMO

Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska gave an impassioned speech Wednesday night on the Senate floor about sexual assault and the #MeToo movement.

Sasse also dropped a bombshell about where he stood on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court, saying he had pushed for a different candidate before Trump chose Kavanaugh.

"I urged the president to nominate a different individual," Sasse said. "I urged the president to nominate a woman."

He recounted the experiences of two friends he said were raped, saying the #MeToo movement had been "complicated" but also a "very good thing."

And then Sasse turned back to Trump. "We all know that the president cannot lead us through this time," he said.​

Republicans Jeff Flake of Arizona, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have not set how they will vote.
