Flake will vote YES on Kavanaugh. per msnbc

What a tragedy. This president & party could have put another equally conservative (I use that term loosely) justice on the court, even more quickly than this one is being jammed through. Kavanaugh wasn't on the first or second short list of nominees for a reason. McConnell didn't want him because he knew this kind of nasty fight would result, because K is well known in DC as a political hack. That's reality, and why his first confirmation to the bench was delayed for so long.

Trump selected Kavanaugh for his reasons, against his party's advice. The predictable -- and far worse than that- resulted.

But the true harm done will be that over 50% of Americans will believe that a man who sits on the Supreme Court is one who drinks too much, lies under oath, has committed sexual assault, is abusive towards women, and who is extremely partisan, and that he was put there by Senators who knew all this to be true, but confirmed him anyway.

Regardless of one's political views, I can't imagine how anyone can view this as a triumph or a win, or anything short of harmful to our collective faith in an independent judiciary and our political institutions, and to our democracy itself.

A Supreme Court Case Could Liberate Trump to Pardon His Associates
The Utah lawmaker Orrin Hatch, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, filed a 44-page amicus brief earlier this month in Gamble v. United States, a case that will consider whether the dual-sovereignty doctrine should be put to rest. The 150-year-old exception to the Fifth Amendment’s double-jeopardy clause allows state and federal courts to prosecute the same person for the same criminal offense.

Analysis | Mark Judge’s book validates Christine Blasey Ford’s timeline of the alleged Kavanaugh assault

During her testimony Thursday morning, Christine Blasey Ford offered one piece of information that she felt could narrow down the time frame of the alleged incident in which she says she was assaulted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at a gathering at a house in Maryland when they were in high school.

She described having seen Kavanaugh’s classmate Mark Judge — who she alleges was in the room when the attack occurred — shortly after the alleged incident.

“I did see Mark Judge once at the Potomac Village Safeway after the time of the attack,” she said, “and it would be helpful with anyone’s resources if — to figure out when he worked there if people are wanting more details from me about when the attack occurred. If we could find out when he worked there, then I could provide a more detailed timeline about when the attack occurred.”

Flake just got held up in an elevator by protesters !

I hope the protestors are targeting Dem senators, too. Some of them have also said they will vote for K. Issues are more important than partisanship.

I don't trust either party to do the right thing in this situation. Nor in most situations in DC these days. JMO

ETA: Politicians play a game called "rotating villian", where they choose some member to scuttle the nomination or legislation who is willing to take the blame and let the others off the hook. I think my party has a few rotating villains for this nomination.

Wow, you just gave me chills. So right, he's a very angry man. A scary man (imho).

Imagine him wasted -- I would be scared of him . Probably domestic viol stuff is in the 100,000 pages they hid ??

I won't go into "victim blaming", but have any of you, ever had the complete sucker punch effect of an accusation that is untrue? It is a feeling of helplessness, powerlessness, and shame, because there are people who do believe the accusations.

There is absolutely no defense, except to say that you did not do that behavior. The more insidious the accusation, the more difficult it is to refute, because you are, in effect, calling the accuser a liar. And you even second guess yourself, because it is gaslighting in the extreme, you wonder, "Why is this accusation happening? What have I said or done that makes people believe this?".

I still have the gut wrenching experience and feelings that happened, even though it was over 20 years ago, like it happened yesterday. It changes you. The world is no longer a safe space. You watch every word and action after a baseless accusation. You are never the same again. I don't trust people, I am wary, watchful, and guarded now.

That is the result of an unfounded accusation. You have no defense, and you are never prepared.

Dr Ford comes across as credible and believable because she truly feels that Kavanaugh was the one who attacked her.

That doesn't mean she can't be mistaken and it was someone else. She admits she has memory issues with the event and as you say no one that she named as being at the party has corroborated her story. JMO

How can people think that someone who is on top of you (who you know) is not the person trying to rip of your clothes, rubbing you and smothering you??

Love to be a fly on the wall at the Kavanaugh house this morning.

Did he watch her testimony yet? Did he watch his own? What does he think about the American Bar Association, Dershowitz and at least three Republican governors calling for the vote to be delayed?

moo

They cant delay -- more of his history will come out

The front door was 2012. They have 2 front doors from an extensive remodel. It was in her testimony. Did you listen to it or just glean soundbites from the media?

Yes I listened, now that room/door is used by google interns.

Even on what imo is a very dark day in a too long stretch of very dark days, I remain (largely) confident that Chief Justice Roberts cares deeply about the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, knows that legitimacy of the Court is necessarily determined by, at the very least, a majority of Americans believing the Court is above partisan politics and that it's rulings are based entirely upon good faith, reasoned interpretations of Constitutional LAW.

I therefore find it inconceivable that Roberts would sanction, endorse, support, or even allow Hatch's blatant attempt to give trump , trump 's family, and his convicted felon ex-employees a get out of legal consequences free card.

I am singularly unimpressed with Avenetti. IMO, he is a shyster.

Who has stated Kavanaugh lied during his testimony? I'd like to follow up.
Avenatti and Stormy Daniels vindicated when Trump attorney Michael Cohen pled guilty to illegal campaign violations and named Trump as coconspirator in Stormy Daniels affair. Trump and Cohen repeatedly lied.
Numerous people dispute Kavanaugh--others have provided links here and Sen. Feinstein just named some of the people in her Friday morning testimony.
Unbelievable that Senate majority refuses to investigate other 2 claims. They are not going away. Sad if we have Supreme Court justice credibly accused of sexual assault by several women.
