Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Guantanamo Detainee's

If they have committed crimes, why can we not bring charges, present evidence, accomplish a verdict and assign consequences?

What crimes?!?! Trying to kill infadels is not a crime, who are we to say otherwise. The murder of innocents is subjective, don't you agree? Cutting off limbs, raping & killing are viewed differently in differnet societies and you need to be more compassionate and understanding of other cultures. I for one say let 'em go and live their lives, after all - it is very likely I will never have to deal with them personally, so what's the big deal? Just keep you mouth shut and don't piss them off and everything will be just fine..... and on the bright side, if I have to someday wear a scarf to cover my head so as not to offend I say bravo, bad hair days no more!!

Have you thought this through logistically?....

I have. The standards to which we hold ourselves have always been fairly burdensome. That can be a drawback to high standards. The other side of the coin is imprisoning human beings endlessly without charges, evidence, a trial, etc...and our country, IMHO, should should not be about that.

I have slogged through about half of the opinion. It seems right to me that these detainees be allowed hearing as to whether or not they are imprisoned justly. I'd want the same for you or me or anyone - regardless of background.

Your sarcasm is noted, but loses me. I don't think most folks who believe in this ruling believe what you have written in this post.

This will most definitely change the face of war as we've known it. Every prisoner taken captive will now be allowed due process in our court system. Unfreakinbelievable.

I just wanted people to see this post again.

After they're convicted (IF they're convicted) in our courts. They can go hang out in our prisons:

Terror Plot Hatched in California Prison
Authorities Thwart Attack Intended for Next Month
Aug. 16, 2005

RSS A terrorist plot to attack military and Jewish sites in the Los Angeles area this coming Sept. 11 was devised inside a cell at the New Folsom State Prison, a maximum-security prison outside Sacramento, Calif.

Law enforcement officials told ABC News that Peter Martinez, a former Oakland street gang member, and his cellmate Kevin James organized the plot and recruited as many as 13 other inmates in a jihad against the United States. The two inmates have since been placed in special confinement, according to officials.

"Al Qaeda recruits in prisons. They really do," said Edward Caden, a retired prison administrator in California. "Prisons are a prime, prime target for terrorist recruiting. It is a ripe population."

The plot, which called for dozens of casualties as part of a holy war against the United States, was foiled after Levar Washington, a former inmate at the Folsom Prison, and his accomplice were arrested for a string of gas station robberies.

Washington had entered prison a convicted thief and left as a militant black Muslim who had sworn allegiance to a violent jihad, according to law enforcement authorities.

Thank you for posting that Karole. As if we don't have enough of a burden on our prison system, our court system and tax payers footing the bill...now we are giving them a rapt audience behind prison walls to make choices as to how to align with certain gangs to get done what they find neccessary..our demise of our freedoms.

I hope people understand that many of the people in GITMO were in one way or another connected to 9/11. They either were part and parcel of the funding, offered information, or were prepared to carry out further attacks if needed. These aren't innocent bystanders..these were people deeply ingrained in funneling money, info and safe haven to people who wanted to destroy our society. These are the people we are now going to play nice with..they must be having a good laugh..because they know they don't even comprehend the term play nice when they are involved in the world liberation through a jihad.

If you have any doubts about these people, ask firefighters widows from 9/11, mother's and father's of 9/11 vics and family and friends of 9/11 vics how they feel about this new idea of the Supreme Court..to literally open up our prison system to embrace these people and give them the fruitful grounds they so desire for recruitment.

They can attend college! Get a legal degree.

What could possibly go wrong?

DD,

You seem very sure of their crimes. You may be absolutely right that they are guilty of every single thing you list.

What I can't understand is - if the evidence is so overwhelming against these detainees that you - a layperson - are convinced of their guilt, then why can't we charge them, bring a trial, lay out the evidence, get a conviction and mete out a sentence? Surely people more "in the know" than you and me have reems of stuff to build this case.

Basically, we want info from these people that only they can supply. Once charged, tried and either executed or imprisoned, there will no longer be any reason for them to talk. No bargaining chips left so to speak. And most of them want to be executed due to the moral clauses of Islam..dieing for the cause will guarantee them a place in their version of heaven. Therefore if we don't get the intell now, we won't have an opportunity to later.

Because its wrong to hold someone captive for years and years without at least charging them!

Point taken. And what's the motivation for them to talk now?

Bragging rights mostly I would say. They love to rub our faces in their abilities to continually pull off suicide bombings, espionage and other acts..like 9/11 right under of noses.
