Susan Atkins wants out of jail to die...

Former Manson family member Susan Atkins has requested a "compassionate release" from prison because she has less than six months to live, a California prisons spokeswoman said Friday.

I'll let Susan speak for herself.

"Sharon was the last to die," Susan said with a laugh as she described how Sharon was begging her, " Please don't kill me. Please don't kill me. I don't want to die. I want to live. I want to have my baby. I want to have my baby."

Susan said she just looked at Sharon straight in the eye and said, "Look, , I don't care about you. I don't care if you're going to have a baby. You had better be ready. You're going to die and I don't feel anything about it...In a few minutes I killed her."

Susan said she saw that there was Sharon's blood on her hand and she tasted it.

She is not hungry.. not thirsty. She is dressed. She is allowed to have compassionate visitors in prison. Thankfully we don't run our prisons based on any specific religion, because lots of the prisoners would've been beheaded by now. If her conversion of faith was legitimate, then she will be feeling peace and forgiveness from her Savior. That does not mean that the rest of society has an obligation to forgive her evil actions.

edited to say, someone might correct me, but I believe Jesus respected the laws of the land. He would've given her comfort in prison if her conversion was true. But that would not give her a ticket to be released.

Agreed. Being compassionate extends to those who were victimized first. I do think Susan should not be allowed to suffer needlessly. Morphine pumps only manage pain and most end life cancer patients get injections of morphine and dilaudid. This is available even in prisons and is most likely used. No one wants to see someone suffer unlike Susan did to Sharon Tate.

Paying completely would mean imposing the death penalty." But, he told the paper, given her terminal illness, "I don't have an objection to her being released."

I remember reading " Helter Skelter" and being scared to death. Vincent Bugliosi apparently didn't spare the readers too many details in the book. If he can know exactly what happened and feel this way, then I admire even more than I did when he was the prosecuting DA. His ability to find compassion and humanity for Susan Atkins speak greatly of his character.

I am not trying to beat you up over this, but the person to ask about her release would be the victims families. Obviously the prosecutor did not lose a daughter to Susan Atkins brutality.

I don't think the prison system has hospital facilities with hospice capabilities or Morphine IV pumps. I could be wrong, but I've never read of a prison with those types of palliative care for terminally ill inmates.

Wow...I wonder if Sharon had a "morphine drip" to help her with HER PAIN while her throat was being split!?!? Yeah...that is what I thought. I rest my case. :bang:

She is likely not a threat to society, but her being released would cause more pain to the families of her victims, and I have much more compassion for them than I have for the killer. I do not hate the killer, or even wish her a painful death. She claims to be a born-again Christian. I hope she finds peace and forgiveness on the other side.

Sounds like she did some good during her imprisonment. Give her extra time outside in the sun.. behind barbed wire. Give her extra visiting hours with her family. But don't hurt her victims families further by releasing her.

This is exactly how I feel. I do not believe in the death penalty, but I do believe in life in prison. The years she has served should not in any way diminsh the crimes she committed. To let her go now would serve no purpose for her personally and would hurt the family of Sharon Tate.

This ploy..if it comes to fruition will only add another log to the fire of not keeping people in prison who belong there. This exception to the rule would then open the flood gates for many people on LWOP. She has gotten what she deserves, and compassionate care. How many of you realize that many people in this country who never hurt anyone do not have and cannot afford health care..much less the care for cancer.

She is where she should be...God will be her next judge.

Your neighbor or your mother has not been sentenced to die in prison have they? She does NOT deserve the same quality of care as those in the free world. She gave up that right when she killed an innocent victim. She is getting humane treatment...that is all she is entitled to. After all, that is FAR MORE than she gave her victim.

No, I can't provide you with a link. And, I don't think I am wrong. Do you believe that every person walking has the same care or HMO's as prisoners? No, they are taken care of, the prisoners I mean. Most of us live on a wing and prayer and hope someone will give us a shot of morphine in our end days. This overly compassionate stance is really disturbing when we are talking about a murderer and we have people who cannot afford basic health care. Much less end of life compassion. And, they didn't commit murder.

I just watched something on the Manson Family crimes a few nights ago. My 14 and 16 yr old daughters watched it with me and they were really shook up at how the killers laughed about how Sharon Tate cried for her mother as they were slashing her. It is hard to feel sorry for Atkins after hearing that. :boohoo:

This really gave me a chuckle.

The laws are the laws. She committed the crime. She had her day in court. She may or may not be remorseful, but when she made the choice to commit the crime this was the sentence handed down.
What a wasted life. How sad.
