After this case lay dormant for several months, there's been a flurry of activity as you've seen in the more recent posts. Search in Ely, Nv desert, court appearance by Josh and Mr. Cox over restraining orders, both father and son (Steve Powell, Josh Powell) appearing on a number of morning national news programs and responses from Susan's family and friends, revelations by Susan's FIL of an ALLEDGED inappropriate sexual relationship with Susan, LE search warrant issued for the Powell family home in Washington State, and the son and father-in-law's response to the search warrant served.

Because there are so many articles, I'm going to list some of them below. They may not be exact order of publication and broadcast, but they're all relevant to the case and directly related to the recent flurry of activity in the search for missing mother, daughter, and friend, Susan Powell.

As detectives seized computers, videos and diaries from the home of missing mom Susan Powell's husband, her father-in-law admitted he had a "romantic obsession" with Susan and wrote love songs about her before she vanished.

The father-in-law, Steven Powell, also said their relationship was "very sexually charged" and "inappropriate."

"There were definitely some things that were probably inappropriate for a married woman and her father-in-law. I acknowledge that," he said.

Steven Powell also admitted that Susan became upset when his advances toward her became increasingly overt. "When I took liberties or whatever, she became very upset and accused me of hitting on her," he said.

But police officials said Friday morning that the father-in-law, Steven Powell, had been ruled out as a person of interest in the case - despite his salacious admissions about his daughter-in-law.

Judge: Susan Powell's husband, father-in-law cannot publish her diaries


Tacoma, Wash. - On Friday, a judge issued a temporary restraining order saying that the husband and father-in-law of missing Utah woman Susan Powell cannot publish her diary entries.

The order, issued in Pierce County Superior Court, instructs Susan's husband, Josh Powell, and his father, Steven Powell, to &#8220;immediately cease&#8221; publication of her journals and to &#8220;immediately remove&#8221; her journal entries from their Website SusanPowell.org and any other location they've been placed on the Internet. They have also been barred from distributing copies of the journal to media

A lot of dirt, and some news, kicked up in latest Powell flurry

On Aug. 18, West Valley City police put out a news release intended to rekindle interest in the Susan Powell case.

I guess that worked.

In the 10 days since, we’ve had a media caravan to Ely, Nev., news helicopters hovering over a search in Washington state and tawdry accusations making a big splash on “The Today Show.”

The allegations, that Steve Powell may have had a sexual interest in his daughter-in-law, were not new to us. The whispers were out there when news of her disappearance broke in late 2009, and our reporters tried hard then to establish both their truthfulness and their relevance to Susan’s disappearance. But Susan’s family would not address the accusations publicly then, and while Steve’s son Josh was named as a person of interest in the case, Steve was not. His connection was tangential.

That changed after this latest flurry brought new attention to Steve Powell, who asserted on “The Today Show” and elsewhere that it was Susan who had a sexual interest in him. That was enough for Susan’s family members and friend to finally go public with their version, that Susan told them Steve had made unwanted sexual advances toward her.

It may be some time before we know how important the past 10 days were in the search for Susan Powell.

Police separating fact from fiction in Powell disappearance


To be fair, the world can be a very weird, illogical and surprising place. It is entirely possible that Josh and Steven Powell's assertions have some merit.

But just in case they are wrong, I'm glad that the dedicated cops from West Valley City, who showed up en masse to process the Powell's residence last week, are still sifting through the minutiae to find that one piece of evidence that helps them locate Susan Cox Powell.

And when they do, I doubt they will find her sipping cocktails on a beach.
