Josh Powell says he is a good father, pleads for custody of children

Tacoma, Wash. • The husband of Susan Cox Powell told a judge here Tuesday he had nothing to do with his wife’s disappearance and pleaded for custody of the couple’s 4 and 6-year-old sons.

The boys were taken into foster care last week following the voyeurism and child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 arrest of their grandfather, Steve Powell. The children have been living in Steve Powell’s Puyallup, Wash. home with their father since last year.

TACOMA, Wash. -- Lawyers from the state Attorney General's office told a Pierce County judge Tuesday that Josh Powell is the subject of a voyeurism and 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 investigation and may have had some involvement in the child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 case of Steven Powell, Josh's father.

Josh Powell denied any knowledge of or involvement in the alleged crimes that led to his father's arrest. Steven Powell was arrested last Thursday, accused of possessing hundreds of sexual images of women and girls taken without their knowledge.

The alleged father-son connection was made during a Pierce County family court hearing to determine whether custody of Josh and Susan Powell's two young sons should be granted to Susan's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox.

The state granted temporary custody of the two sons to Coxes, but the judge in the case will not issue a final custody ruling until Wednesday.

Friend: Steve Powell was obsessed with Susan, 🤬🤬🤬🤬, for years

Ellensburg, Wash. &#8226; Over the course of their long-standing friendship, Sandy Crain Anderson learned two things about Steve Powell.

Powell was into 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. And he was obsessed with his daughter-in-law, Susan Cox Powell.

Anderson shared her knowledge about Powell with West Valley City Police in January 2010, weeks after Susan disappeared. She called again nine months later, after Powell confided to her that a police search of his Puyallup home had overlooked his 🤬🤬🤬🤬 cache, along with his collection of clothing and journals belonging to Susan. She even sent police notes and a map Powell had made outlining his own theory about his daughter-in-law&#8217;s disappearance.

In July, Anderson said, investigators told her they had lost that information and asked her to resend it, which may have helped lead police back to Powell&#8217;s home. Chuck Cox, Susan&#8217;s father, suggested Saturday that an online article about Anderson "clued" police in that "some of this existed."

West Valley City Police did not return a call for comment.

West Valley police chief opens up about Susan Powell investigation

WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley Police Chief Thayle "Buzz" Nielsen admits he takes the case of missing mother Susan Cox Powell very personally.


"I promised (Chuck Cox) that we would do everything that is humanly possible, that we just wouldn't give it up," he said of his vow to Susan's father to resolve the case.


It's been 21 months since Susan Powell was last seen. It's been an investigation that saw a swarm of media attention in the beginning, seemingly went quiet for about a year, and recently skyrocketed to the forefront of news headlines with high profile searches in Ely, Nev., the Topaz Mountain region and at the home of Steven and Josh Powell in Puyallup, Wash.

In a sit down interview with Nielsen in his office Tuesday, the chief used phrases like being "in the fourth quarter" and the "tipping point" when describing where the investigation into Susan's disappearance is now at.

TACOMA, Wash. — The children of a Utah woman who's been missing since late 2009 have been placed in the care of her parents.

Sherry Hill, a spokeswoman for the Washington state Children's Administration, said Tuesday that the department's legal counsel had confirmed in court that the 4- and 6-year-old sons of Susan and Josh Powell would remain with Susan's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, pending future court orders.

"The Cox family has had a very good and very strong relationship with these children," Downing said. "They had a joyous reunion and that's all I can say."

Judge: Susan Powell kids must remain in state custody


The images, taken from 15 computers confiscated from the home in August, were available to everyone living in the home, Long argued. Josh Powell and his sons have been living with Steve Powell since last year.

Long also said Josh Powell admitted to CPS workers that he has taken photos of peopleÂ’s legs without knowledge and that some of his fatherÂ’s information may be on his computer

A 1992 divorce case reviewed by The Associated Press shows Steve Powell’s ex-wife accusing him of damaging his children’s respect for marriage. Susan Powell case is at a "tipping point"

Mayor Mike Winder says that includes trailers full of evidence from both the Powell residence in Washington and the most resent search of the Topaz mountain area. "We have bones, we have charred clothing, we have charred wood, with what the cadaver dogs are excited about, and that we are doing DNA analysis on."

He says that analysis could take up to three months. "Are they ancient items? Are they relatively recent? Are they related to this case? That is what we will look to find out."
