TX Suzanne Clark Simpson missing in San Antonio, last seen by friends at dinner - 6 October 2024 *Arrest* #2

  • #441
Dumping a body in a high crime area…. Hmm. If it’s Suzanne’s remains, it smells like someone wanted to stage a random abduction and murder. Sound familiar? Suzanne Morphew’s body was found in an area of Colorado known as “The Boneyard”, where many bodies and bones were discovered over the years. Her body had been moved from elsewhere, too.

Waiting (im)patiently for updates on the identification of the Banderas remains.

There is another missing woman who to date hasn't been found - Jordan Tompkins. Some are wondering if it could be her?
She has a thread here - TX - TX - Jordan Tompkins, 25, Missing, Bandera, 22 April 2022

So sad. Whoever was found, some family will be receiving bad news. Perhaps some comfort in closure.

Dimitri Perez is another possibility.

From this article:
James Cotter, accused of helping longtime friend Brad Simpson hide evidence in the disappearance of his wife, Suzanne Simpson, will have his GPS monitor removed while out on bond, a judge has ruled.

During a scheduled court appearance Wednesday, Cotter’s attorney Robert Maurer argued that he is not a flight risk because he owns an expensive home in the San Antonio area and has extensive ties to the community. He has had no violations while on bond, Maurer said.

Maybe he is cooperating with his testimony. He could know a lot but just not the location of Suzanne’s remains.

But he might know where she is as well! However, just because they're not tracking him by GPS now, doesn't mean they're not tracking him in other ways. And he'd be far less likely to do something stupid like hide evidence or visit the site of her remains, if he still had the GPS on.

Not a flight risk because…he owns an expensive home and knows a lot of people in his community. I’d argue that someone with financial and personal resources to easily flee the country would have more potential to be flight risk.

This makes no sense to me in this case. Cotter's not a co-conspirator to murder here! He's charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a prohibited weapon (a fully automatic AK-47). Cotter's out on $100,000 bond!

Simpson asked Cotter, his business partner of more than 25 years, to hide his AK-47 only 2 days after Suzanne went missing. His wife was missing, and that's where Simpson's priority was. IMO, LE immediately went for Cotter as leverage -- hoping to put pressure on Simpson and/or to have something to get him to cooperate, knowing they don't have a body.

An arrest affidavit for Cotter indicates he permitted authorities to review his phone, revealing communications with Brad Simpson about concealing a gun in a pump house. Simpson allegedly apologized for the urgency of the request, telling Cotter, "You're all I got now... social media is destroying me."

No, Cotter's not fleeing anywhere, and as a husband and father, I'm sure he wonders daily when Simpson decided money should come above murdering the mother of your children. They could always make more money...

Also, I think the Judge allowed Cotter's GPS monitor removed because he was initially supposed to go to trial in September. The Judge did tell Cotter in September that he'd reconsider the GPS monitor, and it appears the Court was only waiting for the discovery date to pass before granting the request. JMO

The gag order on this case continues to keep us in the dark-- I'm ready for trial, yesterday!

I just find it an odd thing to say that they don’t think someone’s a flight risk because they have an expensive house.

From this article:
Prosecutors want all records related to both Brad and Suzanne Simpson held by Freedom Life Insurance Company of America, including applications for insurance, policy and loan records and any payment records. Investigators also want to take a closer look at both parents’ bank accounts at Wells Fargo, including all deposits and withdrawals, safe deposit box records, wires, investment accounts and credit card records. They even want to see every time someone logged into the accounts online.

The most unexpected among the wave of subpoenas filed by those hoping to prove Brad Simpson’s guilt: A demand to U.S. Customs and Border Protection for proof that Suzanne Simpson’s sister, Teresa Lynn Clark, flew from Austin to Phuket International Airport on September 28, 2024, and flew from Hong Kong International Airport to LAX on October 8, 2024.

Interesting. I’m disappointed that MySanAntonio didn’t provide a link to the referenced subpoena documents. Nor did they provide any insight on the relevance of the demand for proof that TLC traveled to Phuket and Hong Kong.

That might not be the best wording as it does imply that whether somebody is, or is not, a flight risk is directly related to wealth.

But... the core linkage appears valid in this case. Ala:

- Your honor, I am not a flight risk as I would risk losing assets that are not easy to liquify. In this case, those assets are a large home. And... I dont have large bank accounts to allow me to live happily ever after in Brazil after walking away from the house.

Then factor in as @Seattle1 mentioned, he is not charged with a serious crime that could produce a Uhhmmm.... "life altering" sentence. So, even less incentive to flee.

I agree - it made me do a double take too - you own an expensive house so you are not a flight risk - like, what does a) have to do with b).

Has there been any update on the skeletal remains found in October? Thinking of Suzanne, and also remembering missing Jason Landry. Though Luling is a couple hours drive from Banderas.
I've been checking but have not found any updates. :(
