"The state has a duty to review all of that evidence, and we've been diligent in doing that, but the volume has made it impossible to complete that by the February trial date," Sandoval said...”

“Prosecutors told the court they recently received a significant amount of new evidence and need additional time to review it. The defense expressed frustration with the delay but did not object, saying they understood the request.

The indictment also says that Brad also concealed a fully automatic firearm, a 7.62x39mm caliber select-fire rifle, that was not registered with the ATF or National Firearms registration or "classified as a relic or curio." Investigators believe that Brad did this to "impair its availability as evidence" in Suzanne's murder.

Suzanne's DNA was later identified on a motorized saw. Indictment documents allege that Brad tried to hide the saw from investigators.“

“… In the most damning accusation, Gilmore accuses Olmos Park Police Chief Fidel Villegas of giving Olmos Park Mayor Erin Harrison a private look at physical evidence in the case against Simpson.

“The only disclosure that has been given to defense regarding Villegas relates to Villegas’ incomprehensible decision to allow Olmos Park Mayor Erin Harrison a private review of all the physical evidence in OPPD’s possession, a calculation that may very well destroy the chain of custody for many items,” Gilmore wrote in his motion for discovery, outlining several other claims and civil actions against both Villegas and other investigators.

Gilmore says the chief did this even after the judge presiding over the Simpson case issued a gag order…

In a nutshell, prosecutors want to be able to use hearsay statements about Suzanne Simpson, saying they have records of prior family violence showing Brad Simpson’s “misconduct was done, at least in part, to procure the unavailability of the witness.”

The state has also subpoenaed Child Protective Services, under a rushed request, for any records of investigations into the Simpson family. The same prosecutors want record of Simpon’s hunting license and harvest tags.
