Found Deceased Switzerland - Aidan Roche, 29, UK citizen, last seen on a Swiss mountain, Grindelwold, 22 June 2023

poor family. Hanging on for some Crazy Survival Story! I hope one day they do find out what happened/find him.

''She said she hoped releasing the videos might prompt a new lead: “I know he would have spoken to the girl sitting near him in the video, and the people walking towards him. We’re just hoping that someone can identify them and give us a new lead.”

So looks like the people in video still have not been identified. This could be crucial

I live a few hours away and while theres been some coverage, i have not seen any appeals in the four national languages about identifying the hikers, though perhaps i missed it... in any case the huge amount of tourists to this area at this time of the year - people passing through to another place on their vacations, doesnt give me hope that these people even have any idea of what is going on.

The places you could get injured or stuck are many. And add elevation and terrain to that, it is a frightening thought. I hope he is located soon and safe.

The story featured in 20minutes, see for example Grindelwald BE: Wer ist die mysteriöse Frau im letzten Video des vermissten Aidan?.

I agree about the large number of tourists in the area. I spent a week in the Grindelwald area in July and I met many people from the US, Canada, Australia, Asian countries and so many European countries. The chances of identifying this woman must be very low.

I also agree about the challenges in the landscape. Although the path from the waterfall to Alpiglen (and back into.town) is relatively easy, if you go back to Grindelwald from the waterfall via Gletcherschlucht, the terrain is more challenging, with more possibilities for accidents and very few people around.

Yes i saw it in 20 mins but you see a short article on a free newspaper- many people dont even read it, unfortunately in cases like this. There could be much more coverage and thats a shsme.

In 2009, when Myles Robinson disappeared in Wengen (not so far from where Aidan Roche disappeared), staff from Swisscom were apparently able to do a triangulation of the last signal received from Myles' phone and Myles' body was eventually found in the area predicted by Swisscom. I haven't seen any indication of any work of this kind in the case of Aidan Roche. Or, if it has been done, it hasn't been revealed to the public. Instead, we only have information about messages sent/received.

The info about Swisscom involvement in the search for Myles Robinson is detailed here: The strange disappearance and death of Myles Robinson in Switzerland’s Wengen Ski resort — StrangeOutdoors.com

Considering that the temps dipped at the time Aidan got missing and it got pretty windy, I think he fell down somewhere on the trail, or, alternatively, tried to take a shortcut and got himself in a place without exit. Low chances he is still alive and it isn't easy to find a body up in the mountains, even much smaller than Swiss Alps.

There are many disappearances or deaths around Grindelwald.
1. Pianist John Bottomley disappeared in Wengen in June 2011.
No sign of Huddersfield man missing in Switzerland
2. Suspicious death of Myles Robinson in Wengen in December 2009.
As far as we know today, the man fell early in the morning in the Steinhalten area in what was then snow-covered, steep and impassable terrain and finally fell over the Fluh, which is around 100 meters high. He sustained fatal injuries in the process. (...)The question of why the young man went to the area outside the village at night can hardly ever be answered with certainty.

Yes, because Grindenwald is high up in the Alps, very high and dangerous mountains. Nothing strange about that, unfortunately.

What exactly is suspicious in a tragic death of a young man who went into the mountains while drunk (two promiles in his blood, that's really high level) and fell 100 meters down?

This lady also fell down. Tragic, but not strange, nor suspicious in Swiss Alps.

Another unfortunate fall.

And yes, yet another unfortunate fall from the height.

Let me repeat, Grindenwald is in Swiss Alps, or, more precise, the Bernese Alps range. The highest point of elevation is 4,274 metres (14,022 ft), that's nearly as high as the highest peak of Rocky Mountains. It's a difficult terrain, so accidents do happen and people going missing is not a strange thing in any mountains, let alone that high ones. There is no madman killing people under Eiger, seriously.

Teacher Beth Taylor, 26, a friend of Aidan, said : 'Nothing adds up - apparently his van was left unlocked - nothing stolen - that's not like him at all.' British hiker, 29, vanishes in the Swiss Alps
What do you think about this ?

We know there was another person who used Aidan's van and it seems that person left after Aidan. It's quite probable that other person forgot to lock the van.

It is stated in the 1st article that Myles Robinson brought a girlfriend to the hotel after leaving the bar. So even if he was drunk,
what was his journey to find himself in Steinhalten in the middle of the night and alone?
I'm not the one saying Myles' death is suspicious. I'm just basing this on the article posted above by CH_based on August 13th. You will see that it is Myles' relatives and friends who find this death very suspicious :

Drunken people do stupid and irrational things.

As i stated earlier i live a couple hours away and in the alps as well. It isnt unusual for someoneto drunkenly stumble into the mountains, the lakes or the forest . There are also many vineyards and much drinking in switzerland - accidents because of alcohol and because of mishaps in the mountains happen and none of these cases have bearing on this disappearance. In fact as the summer warms up, they find bodies of skiers, hikers and others who unfortunately passed in nature. Its so sad but usually in a human vs nature situation, nature wins despite our readiness and preparation. Here, we are tokd not to hike, esp in mountains, alone. This is a very good rule of thumb

So Rochelle and Aidan would have separated here, with Rochelle continuing on to Alpligen and Aidan continuing on to Grindelwald?

I've run and hiked the Eiger Trail route several times over the past few years. The normal route back to Grindelwald is via Alpigen, then down to Brandegg etc. If Aidan and his walking partner separated at the turning to Alpiglen, he wasn't going directly back to Grindelwald by the simplest route. But he could have been thinking of going down to the Gletcherschlucht (I thought I saw mention in one piece online that he might be going on to look at the glacier). The trail from that junction towards Gletcherschlucht is technically more difficult than the Eiger Trail and would usually have fewer people on it. If an accident occurred along it, it is much less likely that anyone would have seen it.
