Syringe in bottle contained traces of chloroform

It looks like a 3cc syringe with an attached 23 gauge needle. BD makes them (and I am sure other companies as well) they come pre-packaged in a black and white wrapper back and clear plastic front.

The hub is dark and you can tell the gauge by the color of the hub. we refered to these as "black" needles due to the hub color. Other colors are green (21 gauge I think and yellow is 18)

What is that size syringe and needle usually used for?

Well, here's one guess - men who have low testosterone can supplement in cream form or via injection. The latter comes in a small vial and is administered via a disposable syringe on a monthly basis. I would think that if some male in the household had an Rx for this, CA being a nurse could administer it. My hubby used to use the injectable form and his needle looked *exactly* like this one.

Reuse syringe, still has traces of testosterone in it (which is a viscous liquid).

THAT'S IT!! I definitely know of ONE MAN in the A household that is very obviously low on male testosterone....I'm now certain the syringe came from GA.

 sarcasm intended

Cecy,
Didn't see this b4, but you can buy some of these over the counter at drug stores. Diabetics have to do it all the time. also medical supply companies. I'm recalling her item she came out of Walgreens with when seen by Thompson

I believe you have to have a prescription to get a needle syringe at the drug store. I don't believe they sell them without having a medication that requires a syringe.

It could be used for various things actually. the smaller gauge means that the needle was finer, thick liquids would not go through easily. It could be used for non-viscous meds injection into an IV bag, aspirating a small cyst, primer syringe for a port, pediatric blood culture draws, or 1000 other things.

It is not normally used for insulin. Those needles are even finer.

Just had an awful thought, hope JG was not using testosterone for anything and she pinched a syringe when she used his shower. :(

Wonder is she stole it from grandma's house when she stole the check.

Oh, these are not normally used for blood draws since the small gauge would hemolyze the blood thus affecting testing. Vacutainer is the product of choice for the lab, only blood cultures were drawn via syringe and for adults a larger gauge would be used.

No prescription is necessary, just go to the pharmacy counter and tell them you need a syringe/needle and what kind and pay for it.

Aww, Honey - your hopefulness is one of the reasons I lub ya. It charms my angry, jaded old soul.

The side of me that responds to optimism makes me feel badly today for all of those who have been clinging to that faint hope.

The realist in me also wonders if some of them pony-up and admit that Casey was not arrested on a whim.
Thx

HOLY CRAP! OMG! OMG! OMG!

I gotta say....this surprises me. I really didn't think much was going to come of that bottle...

:thud:

Exact Same Here! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kenosha's theory of a male that may have had an rx for testosterone injections seems very reasonable.. (NOT uncommon at all) Often it is prescribed for males with low testosterone levels due to increased prostate cancer risks, among other related problems. The ethanol in the syringe could have been from the testosterone as a drug stabilizer OR an ingredient in the production of Chloroform. The syringe was capped and had a needle. The needle comes off in the cap when you unscrew it from the syringe.. She could have made Chloroform from a recipe she found online (wasn't one of the ingredients we saw was alcohol..not rubbing alcohol but the type you buy at a hardware store?-which would be a reason for the Ethanol component, I believe water (ICE) was also an ingredient)also can be made with Acetone....She steals the syringe from the home...uses it to draw up the Chloroform she made with needle on the syringe, recaps it and stores it in the syringe. It doesn't mean she injected it into Caylee.. the needle is just stored in the cap when you twist off the cap. If you pull off the cap...the needle stays on the syringe. She could squirt the liquid out onto a rag or whatever she used. It isn't a big syringe...looks like a 3cc...I would have to find the pic and look again.. How much Chloroform is needed to knock someone out on a rag I wonder.
Wiki
Inadvertent synthesis of chloroform... (OR MADE ON PURPOSE)
The haloform reaction can also occur inadvertently in domestic settings. Sodium hypochlorite solution (chlorine bleach) mixed with common household liquids such as acetone, butanone, ethanol, or isopropyl alcohol may produce some chloroform, in addition to other compounds such as chloroacetone, or dichloroacetone.

added: Testosterone therapy may cause higher risks of prostate CA.(although not proven) Sorry for the mislead.. a bit rusty on some hormonal health issues.. i knew there was a link to prostate cancer risks tho..
:)

Didn't one of the doc dumps list the meds both of the A's were on? It seems like I remember something like that coming out.

Now that the syringe will be of greater importance in this case, how long do you think it will be before the Defense floats a story that "Zanny" was a known intravenous drug user?

Not long, since Lee already threw it out there in his depo that Amy and Ricardo are into heroin!

Ok, we have multiple scenarios:
1. Given orally - if she removed the needle sharp
2. Injected - not in vein
3. Injected - intravenous

Lots to think about and research there.

I can't see Casey taking the time to find a vein in Caylee's poor little, tiny arm, can you?

I could see the ethanol being there if she attempted to clean a used needle with hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol.

Was the Gatorade bottle just laying out in the woods, or was it in a garbage bag??

TIA

I think one visual indication of steroid use is acne-don't know if that applies to Testoserone.

even though it appears there are many access points to needles and syringes, I would still love to know if they traced the lot number. was it issued to gentiva?
