Tanner, Alexander, and Andrew Skelton were last seen on November 26, 2010, the day after Thanksgiving. Their father, John Skelton, stated that he gave the boys to a woman he had met online. Then, John went back home and attempted suicide, but failed. Law enforecement was never able to prove the existence of the woman, "Joann Taylor", who John claimed he gave the boys to. John then changed his story, saying he gave the boys to an adoption organization.

In February 2011, police announced that they now consider the boys' case a murder investigation, and that John Skelton, who is charged with parental kidnapping, is the prime suspect. John maintains his innocence and denies harming the boys.
