Handguns, a rifle and at least six bombs -- three of which exploded -- were found at the scene early Friday after officers first confronted the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects in the darkness of a residential street, the Watertown, Massachusetts, police chief told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Saturday.

A single officer was the first to encounter the two cars that Tamerlan and Dzhokar Tsarnaev were driving, just before 1 a.m. Friday, Chief Edward Deveau said.

Before the officer could get backup, the two cars stopped, and the brothers got out.

"They jump out of the car and unload on our police officer," Deveau said "They both came out shooting -- shooting guns, handguns. He's under direct fire, very close by. He has to jam it in reverse and try to get himself a little distance."

Five other police officers, including two who had just finished their shifts, then arrived at what Deveau called a "very tight area" in the middle of an intense shootout. One of the officers was wounded.

"We estimate there was over 200 shots fired in a five- to 10-minute period," Deveau said.

One of the brothers threw an explosive at the officers. They later discovered it was a pressure cooker bomb, similar to the ones used at the marathon Monday, the chief said.

One of these bombers looked a victim in the eye when he placed the backpack. I wonder what both were thinking in that moment.

They were thinking if fate wills it you will move before this goes off, otherwise you will be blown to pieces.

Random.

Was it 2 minutes?

Does anybody have their exact birthdates & places of birth?

I'll add and went to a party on Wednesday night and made twitter posts as if nothing had ever happened.

Ran his brother over trying to escape

Cold Blooded Killer and nothing more

surreal. Wonder if he took drugs to stay calm? If not a psychopath without doubt.

Both brothers placed the bombs. We have a pic of #2 setting the bomb down, The FBI has video of him doing it. He's 19 that's more than old enough to know you don't set bombs down in a public place.

This took time and planning, time to build the bombs time to plan where they would go then time to execute the plan. He had more than enough time/opportunities to say no or turn his brother in

From police reports on the night of the gunfight he got out of a vehicle and exchanged gun fire with the police. He got wounded in the gun fight, he could have stayed in the car he could have got out and laid down.

This person you're making excuses for had more than enough chances to do the right thing

I'm not making excuses for him. And I could be completely wrong about the dynamics, but note that after the older brother was killed, no one else died.

But it wasn't for lack of trying. The suspect fired at police from the boat in which he was hiding.

Thinking about the fact that DT may have turned himself in.

Even if he did, I don't give him much credit for that or think it shows some sort of good character.

He could have turned himself in Monday night, Tuesday morning, Tuesday night, Wednesday morning.... You get my point.
Certainly before the innocent MIT cop was killed, before the gunfight, before the lockdown of multiple cities...

He's a 🤬🤬🤬 that deserves nothing but the harshest punishment allowed by law. I don't care if he is only 19. That matters not to me.

I wonder if he'll lose his leg from the bullet wound? Now that would be a fitting end for him.

If I were an survivor amputee of the bombing, I personally would not want him to have a leg amputated. Then they would have something in common with him. Maybe an arm or hand ... but not a leg.

For those of you are wondering what amputee's go thru, this is a blog about a guy who lost both his legs above the knee in a fiery car crash 6-7 years ago. He goes into detail about prosthesis and whatnot.

I know. That gives me chills to think about it.
Jeff looked into the eyes of the person that would be responsible for blowing both his legs off within the next couple of minutes.

Truly looking into the eyes if evil.

I really hope that before he died, the older brother had heard the news that the man he tried to kill had ID'd him. I hope he died knowing his victim was responsible for his capture.

Or all four limbs.

For those who were wondering like me

Boston Bombing Suspect Won’t Be Read His Miranda Rights

A strange loophole in the law means Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will be questioned without being advised of his Miranda Rights.

The public safety exception permits law enforcement officials to engage in a limited and focused unwarned interrogation of a suspect and allows the government to introduce the statement as evidence in court. The public safety exception is triggered when police officers have an objectively reasonable need to protect the police or the public from immediate danger.

I'm confused about the first picture.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ect-Dzhokhar-Tsarnaev-boat.html#ixzz2QynyNdUR

When was this taken? He seems to be sitting up with no head wound. Was he shot in the head by gunfire at the scene? I thought he was laying down under the cover?

Maybe the caption under that photo is wrong?? As you can see,the tarp is already torn and shredded. I think this is a photo of him climbing out of the boat when he surrendered to LE. IMO

I don't believe they bought these cars. I think he was bringing in cars from his friends to shop to be fixed. There is another article that says their friends were driving expensive cars. Could be they were haninging with a rich crowd, which would only make them madder they weren't rich themselves.

They both went to Cambridge Rindge &Latin and the older one lived in Cambridge. I'm sure they knew a lot of well off people. Cambridge is an extremely accepting and diverse area with lots of wealthy people. They both wrestled and knew people through that too. These were not loners from the middle of nowhere.

He shot at cops.

Did he? I feel like every time a news outlet says this, they leave it completely hazy rather than saying "he shot at the police from the boat". They keep saying, "...and then there was a firefight" I'd really like to know if LE shot at him to get him out of the boat, or if he actually raised a gun or rifle from inside the depths of the boat and shot at them.

Does anyone know?

Alan Dershowitz weighs in on what will probably be the terrorist's defense strategy:

http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/20/us/boston-suspect-what-next/index.html

"Dershowitz said there are many arguments that can be made to try the case in state court. It may be hard for a prosecutor to prove which crimes were committed by Tsarnaev or his older brother, Dershowitz said.

"If he says my intent was to please my brother, they could raise the question of federal jurisdiction," Dershowitz said."

the scanner thread in the basement has all the info on events as they unfolded (I cannot bring them up here but there is info on the shots fired, etc and his position in the boat thru the ordeal)

seems he (DT) was failing his classes in college and more info on him at this link:

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...thon-bomber/8gbczia4qBiWMAP0SQhViO/story.html

That totally skeeves me out. I probably walked past him Tuesday and Wednesday. He could easily have done the same thing at the school - that wasn't even on my radar on those days. Most of us were just reading the website accounts of the day and trying to emotionally deal with what happened in Boston. So hard to believe he was RIGHT THERE among us, probably listening to people upset, crying, shocked. At least he wasn't one of my students - I checked. Blech.
