Everyone interviewed about the younger brother has such nice things to say about him.

“If someone were to ask me what this kid is like, I would say that he had a heart of gold,” said Larry Aaronson, who taught the younger suspect at the public Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. “He was as gracious as possible … This is all surreal to me.”

Few seem to speak of the older brother.

Bringing forward Kimster's reminder on opinions:

STOP complaining about what other posters are sharing as their own opinion. If you think they are violating the rules, alert the post. Otherwise, scroll on by or use the alert feature. If you don't, you will find yourself on the outside looking in!

I started a thread in the Political Pavillion for some of the more touchy subjects. Maybe we can keep this to more factual information up here?

And he is the one who claimed that it had nothign to do with religion, and they did it because they were losers. Now he says they were just pawns of some bigger scheme? What scheme would it be?

I think that even if Number 1 had some contact with checynan rebels (it all depends on which side you are on in the conflict there, I have for years supported the rebels in their fight with russia) he was self radicalized to start with. The chechnyans dont have a beef with the states and unless it was pure religious oriented i don't see the motive. At least i believe strongly it wasn't politically motivated. My starting point is that #1 first became self radicalized then made contact with some checnyan groups but not for any political reason, if anything he may have used them to further his own religious extremism.

Johar was said to adore his brother from some things i have read. Given the age difference and the fact they were not with parents really, his brother probably became a father figure to him. From everything i have read i think if his brother had stayed in dagestan when he went back last year, Johar would have had a bright and normal future. He was brainwashed.

That does not in any way excuse what he did. I just think its a reason that makes sense to me and explains what happened given all we have heard about johar and his personality. And why I think it was such a waste, not feeling empathy for him but for who he was b4 his brother got his hands on him. Many on the threads have shown a little ..not compassion for him but more a puzzlement and its because the world was his oyster a year or two ago. How many 19 year olds volunteer to be buddies with special needs children or take the time to mentor team mates and help them. Ok the latter yes but he went out of his way to help others with the volunteering. Then he turned to absolute evil.

I just with his brother had died long ago. imo this would never have happened.

We know he didn't come out of the boat willingly. The commissioner has said so.

So I think you are right. That shadow is LE. Creeping. Lol

That is an LE spotlight on that boat.

In the first one? I highlighted that on my computer... Yes, there is a spotlight on the boat in general - I'm talking about the 'figure' that I highlighted. It was hard to tell in previous images (at least for me). (ETA - sorry if I'm misinterpreting your comment. :seeya:)

I wish they would give us an update on his injuries/status.

"The man whose brief life on the lam paralyzed Boston clung to life today as investigators waited for a chance to ask him why he and his brother attacked the Boston Marathon."

"A hospital spokesperson said early this morning that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was still alive, however the FBI asked they give no updates on his condition."

Mods: I hope this isn't considered too political. I'm hoping it's just considered academic background info (International Relations degree gal here :) ). Please delete if it crosses the line.

Well, imho, there are Chechen rebels and then there are Chechen terrorists. The fight with Russia was/is a good fight, imho too, but you don't do something like the Beslan School terror and call it being a rebel. That is terrorism, absolutely. (Beslan school hostage crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

I do agree that the radical, warped version of extreme radical Islam is probably what motivated any (Chechen) terrorist connection with the brothers. Politically it makes little sense for Chechens to dislike the US except for general anti-Americanism (which is in 'Russia' in spades; that is true enough). That's possible, but given the older brother's increasing conservatism in religion, I think his views went more to the 'USA is the Great Satan' meme of very radical Islam.

Because of the nature of the propaganda, allies and cultural motivations of the terror groups fighting Russia, they are getting increasingly pan-Radical-Islam (so more 'religious' and less purely political). Russia has been afraid of that for a while, and it's one of the reasons the gov't there speaks out about terror incidents that hit the Western European/Commonwealth/US West.

In other words, the Chechen terrorists and similar groups in the region are looking more to groups like Al Qaeda for support/power, and there is an increasing general 'anti-West' motivation accordingly. The West includes Russia and all the usual suspects ;)
