GUILTY Thailand - David Miller, 24, & Hannah Witheridge, 23, Koh Tao, 15 Sep 2014

According to the latest on DM, Hannah and David left the club together - suggesting scenario 1 is actually the most likely. But I still don't get why Hannah's DNA is on the cigarette[/B] - unless both she and David knew the killer(s) and stopped for a smoke, before something went wrong. Or if Hannah was specifically targeted they could have been set up - while smoking, someone approaches from behind and hits David on the head but doesn't knock him out immediately (or he regains consciousness) and during the fight the metal bar or whatever weapon they use on David is lost in the sea so they need to find something else to kill Hannah with.

The reports of an argument with a local gangster are pretty scary and resonate with the Hunch77's post about his sister being targeted. No one's going to speak out if the mafia are involved.

BBM. Sorry, this is horrible, is it possible that while Man #1 is raping Hannah he is kissing/licking her - assuming she is alive and upset she would be producing more tears/mucous from nose, he finishes and lights up immediately transferring Hannah's DNA to the cigarette while Man #2 attacks the poor girl. Sorry again, I feel dirty even typing that.

Poor David's girlfriend must be on such a rollercoaster of emotions. I can't help but feel so sorry for her.

There's hardly any mention of him at all, it would be forgivable if people thought only one person was murdered going by the headlines. It's a shame. David was murdered too, maybe not as gruesomely but he lost his life in a bloody terrible way, it's not nice the way he's being almost forgotten.
I've felt this way for a couple of days now. Such a shame

I think, in part at least, this is because Hannah's family have visited Thailand and made statements to the press. I don't think anyone from David's family have travelled or made a statement to the press. I wonder if they want to bring David home and have a family funeral without the press knowing.

I personally think it's because Hannah was blonde, pretty and white. May well be a blessing in disguise though.

I think it's because Hannah appears to have been the target of the attack and all the DNA evidence relates to her. And her murder is more shocking due to its brutality. I think David was not the intended victim but the kind of people who can brutally rape and kill someone wouldn't think twice about killing anyone else who got in the way. In terms of the investigation, his murder is less important, and the media are reflecting this, but I agree it feels a little as if he's been forgotten.

Thinking that the focus on Hannah as opposed to David, is because the key to finding the murderers , is in the who and
why H was so viciously targeted, imo.

Suspects apparently narrowed down according to Bangkok Post. BBM

"Senior Surat Thani police officers discussed investigative progress on Sunday and acknowledged detectives' latest report that focused on clues linking two prime suspects - a Thai national and a Myanmar worker. Surat Thani police commander Pol Maj Gen Kiatipong Khaosam-ang said a man caught by a surveillance camera near the crime scene was a worker at an entertainment place and the supervisor of a suspect whom police were following. He was captured by the camera after the assault on the British tourists. The man had worn only pants and was barefoot because he had been woken up to see the crime scene."

From DM link http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-killed-Locals-claim-no-one-speak-scared.html

Hannah and a friend were spotted on CCTV walking down the main strip of Koh Tao towards Choppers bar at 7pm on Sunday.

At 7.47pm David and his friend Chris Ware were filmed walking towards the bar. They were then recorded at 12.55am leaving, stopping in a convenience store for a toasted sandwich, before walking back to their bungalow.

In a police interview Mr Ware told officers that David then told him he was going out to get some cigarettes but another friend revealed he went instead to nightclub AC to meet up with Hannah and her friend Emma (surname removed by me).

At 1.26am he is recorded walking from the club, and returns at 1.57am. That is the last time he is seen on camera.

Friends told police that Hannah, from Great Yarmouth, and David, from Jersey, left the club together between 3am and 4am. Their bodies were found at 6am.

"Police Colonel Kissana Phathanacharoen said: "We have discovered fresh evidence which could lead to a new suspect who may have had a relationship or one night stand with Hannah or one of her friends or David the night before they were killed.

"We have asked the Metropolitan Police to go back and make enquiries of Hannah's friends on this matter.

"No lines of inquiry can be ruled out and we believe these crimes could have been motivated by sexual jealousy.

"Police have been made aware of reports that Hannah and David had a fight in a bar with a Thai man before they were killed, but cannot confirm if they are true."

"Thai police said they carried out a DNA test late yesterday on a speedboat driver arrested for a drug offence, as they extended their hunt for the killer of two British holidaymakers on a resort island.

The battered bodies of David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, were found on a beach on Koh Tao island nearly a week ago.

The investigation into the grisly double murder has so far drawn a blank, with police under increasing pressure to find the assailants.

A 23-year-old Thai man was arrested Sunday for an unspecified drug offence, according to Kiattipong Khawsamang of Surat Thani provincial police.

"We are waiting for the (result) of his DNA test... It is not clear if he is a suspect yet" in the murder case, Kiattipong told AFP, adding that the man drives a speedboat between Koh Tao and the nearby island of Koh Samui.

Police are also searching for two friends of the driver, Kiattipong said, without giving further details."

Can DNA actually detect that somebody is asian or just hair/eye colour?

  • #215
Yes.....it can detect even more than that too!

  • #216
Like? Intrigued so would appreciate a break down xx

Yes, DNA tests can determine race. I believe that the crimescene samples were sent to a facility in Singapore which has the capacity to run these more advanced tests.
I'm assuming that's where all the samples taken on the island will be analysed as well.

DNA testing can pick up family markers too. There's a good chance the killer has fled the island, in which case the best chance is finding a partial DNA link to an innocent person (male or female) which will lead them to the suspect.

My gut feeling is to believe the rumour about an argument in a bar, with the son of a local landowner (who probably holds a huge amount of clout with the local police). I think there is a cover up. I hope once an unbiased police force look at this case they will easily pinpoint whodunnit.

The Thais are all about saving face, google it, it's like a way of life over there. I can see if Hannah rejected the advances of some well known local rich kid it would have infuriated him. They really do not like feeling embarrassed or humiliated.

Please forgive me mods if i have broken any rules here, but I feel this is a matter of life and death for this young man.

Can any members reading this think of any ways to get this message out there quickly?

Sean McAnna - he who fell asleep. I wondered how long before his name was brought up. His FB post sat uncomfortably as soon as I saw it.
