That "hillbilly dancing with a chubby raccoon to 'Chain of Fools'" video? It's here.

A spokesperson for the TWRA says it is illegal to have captive wildlife and they are required to confiscate animals when they know someone has them.

I don't think the racoon was a captive.

I'm with Sam. This doesn't look like a captive. I would think that a rabies vaccination would be a good idea but it seems like the man has a relationship with the critters of his surrounding and the coon is not exactly captive. My uncle who lived in the city had racoons who knew he put cat food out for stray cats and he attracted racoons so he fed them too. I wonder about the racoon's bathroom habits (whether he uses a litter box or goes outside) to see whether he is free to roam.

I once had a nutria (like a large water rat type creature, like a beaver without the beaver tail). i raised him until he was confident enough to be on his own and one day he left. He was found a baby in a Korean vegetable store and the owner was going to let a trapper capture him and then claim the state bounty on him (they are a nuisance her and damage waterways). But my fiance took pity on the small baby and offered the trapper more money than the bounty and brought him home to me. I named him "Boudreaux" and he loved to sleep in a silky pink nighty of mine. He would get himself all wrapped up in that thing.

Now I don't advocate that everyone should have wild or exotic animals as pets but in special situations, certain people may save a small helpless animal from a dangerous or deadly fate and then raise the animal for release or keep them because they cannot survive in the wild. Such animals can be very educational to others and may help develop a greater respect or love of wildlife in children and adults.

I know they are cute and smart but I am cautious around the raccoons that come in my yard and try to discourage them. Almost all of them carry a parasite called Baylisascaris procyonis which has been studied as a potential biological weapon.

It's a sad day in Tennessee when a hillbilly can't dance with his raccoon in peace.

Oh, this got posted on Bob's thread, when I was trying to work out what the mysterious German 'Waschbare' in my garden was. ALL the US posters solved that little mystery real quick as soon as I linked a pic....and told me they can bite quite hard, as well as dance!

Our waschbares don't seem half as plump as that little dancing fellow though. Mine doesn't dance, but he sleeps on my garden sofa though. It's become my life's mission to catch a photo. If the squirrel would stop attacking the wildlife cam, I might succeed one day.
