The Alarm/Security System

 • #201
This type of alarm is programmed to ignore the pets. It can detect the mass/size of the object and know if it is standing up or like a dog on the ground. My alarm is almost 10 years old, similar to this one, and that is how it was explained by the installer. So there are still motion detectors as well as window & door alarms that alert to human intruders while ignoring a 50 lb dog.

Mine does this. I always leave the house with the AWAY function armed and my pets, who are not crated as long as I'm not gone over a few hours, have ever tripped the alarm. It also depends on the placement and angle of the sensors.

Yes. I can see some of it, but I want to be sure I'm not missing anything.
Ok. I will work on those tomorrow a.m.

Could he have programmed for it to deactivate for that day and time in advance without the company knowing that he actually set it that way before leaving without having to do it remotely from his phone?

Because a phone company may know that your phone was turned off on such day if investigated. But they will not know if you manually set it to turn off on that day and time. Jmo

Maybe he programed the deactivation manually before leaving and played dumb as to how he doesn't know how the alarm malfunctioned. Idk

The following is from this User Manual: http://www.advancealarms.com/user-manuals/dsc-1832.pdf (Page 5)
<snipped for space>

Very interesting read, thanks!

Page 4
Secure System Before Arming
When this message appears, one or more zones are not secured. To secure the system, close all doors and windows and cease all motion in areas covered by motion detectors.

Enter Code to Arm System
When this message appears, use the arrow (< >) keys to verify that the system is clear of troubles and that no zones are bypassed unintentionally (see “Viewing Trouble Conditions” on page 12 and “Zone Bypassing” on page 11).

Page 6
If a zone is still in alarm, the display will show the following message to indicate that a zone is open...
Secure System Before Arming <>

NOTE: If you return and find that an alarm has occurred while you were away, it is possible that an intruder may still be on the premises. Go to a neighbour's house, and call the local police to investigate.

The alarm memory is cleared each time the panel is armed so that any alarms showing are alarms that occurred only during the last armed period.

Secure System Before Arming <> (with the keys lit up) is shown on the log. So, from what I can gather, the event was logged because it was technically an unreviewed "alarm".

Here is a "door open" symbol on my screen. The 'i' symbol tells you to enter a code to see where the door is by its assigned #. The monitoring company does see this if it is not corrected. Mine went into trouble mode and was ignored by us, when a battery died in a sensor, and the company called us and asked if we wanted them to come fix it. IDK if it was driving them crazy or something? LOL. There is also an override feature if you would like to leave 1 window or door off system (for summer breezes). There is also a 1 use feature, where the door can be opened 1 time only before arming (for kid coming home from work, etc.).

Lmao. Curtis was probably thinking wth. I don't mind killing your wife buddy. But why are you making me deal with this tricky alarm system. Lol. Now they know when I was here. Damm you buddy. Why didn't you just break the system before going on the trip. Lol.

LOL, I really do hope CWW experienced a few stressful moments trying to rearm the system after the 6AM entry. :tantrum:

I think MS wanted to blame BS for the alarm failure. Maybe MS thought what played out was more believable. BS's user code as the scape goat vs. the system breaking before they left, when he could've done something about it or at least flew home with TS.

Fantastic, irish! Thank you. It looks like someone was reprogramming codes. I wish we knew the sequence of these in relation to the other keypad images.

Yes. I believe User 40 is the default for the Master Code. Not 100% certain, but that was the impression I got from one of the user's manuals. And we know User 03 is BS's. From what I gathered from the manual, each user is programmed with a 4 digit code. The images you've posted appear to show new codes being programmed.

Agree, Scout..... I used to watch our security guy when he'd hook up his computer to any of our systems---wish now I'd pay a more specific attention to what he did as he explained things. I wonder what all of this type evidence LE techs have that they don't want released yet IF they're with holding more pertinent info from the alarm system.

I don't why, but for some reason they wanted to get into the house in advance. My guess is that, in least in part, they wanted to be familiar with the scene - where to park and how to get to the house on foot, the layout, the dogs, etc, so as to be able to review throughout the day the plan for that night. Most older people, like BS, are very consistent in their morning routine, for eg always get up at 6:30. She wasn't due for at least 1.5 hours. For sure, it's taking a risk but I bet they had their excuse ready: "MS asked me to come and fix his computer, just call him and ask."

I am still in 'catch up' mode - so apologies for not knowing all details....

1.) Does your post imply that Bonnie showed up over 1 hr. early??? Why in the world was B deviating from her routine & showing up so early unexpectedly?

2.) I was rof.... about 'old people & their routines' --------- everyone who knows OLD me know I am tick tick tick --- rote/repetitive, minute by minute, day after day - don't stay up late, wake naturally every day in about a 1/2 hr. window.......over & over....... lol !!

3.) LOVE your thought about how those 2 (CWW & JR) would want to view the scene prior to the murder. It would seem PDS (Pretty darn Stupi_ ) IMO for them to think it would 'OK' if they got caught by Bonnie & said howdie doodie we're here to windex the screen for Mark........ Could they be SO extraordinarily stupid to have it be 'ok' in their minds to have it KNOWN they both were roaming loose in the S home just prior to the murder??????

hmmmm YES !!! Sure makes sense to me ! LOL ! Incredible how JR tells everyone, INCLUDING HIS FREAKIN' BOSS!!!, that he's off to Fla. LOL when HE'S NOT TO LEAVE MO !! And (brain surgeon) JR braggin' to his GF about burying the bloody jumpsuit, etc.......... jheesh !!!

So that leaves (rocket scientist) CWW: hahhaha IMO IMO IMO -- that txt to MS where he says (I paraphrase), 'Hey, bud', trust ME - NOTHING'S SAFE ANYMORE (meaning, no safe txt's, no safe cell phone calls.........lol) !!! hahaahahahha - catch the irony: CWW put that WARNING in writing in a txt to MS !!!!!!!!

4.) I am just agape at all this detailed info' about alarm systems !! WOW, what brilliance here !! I reside in an apt./condo' type of setting. Recently, for real, 3 'young dudes' came to my door early evening (holiday....) claiming to be the 'internet company' & said 'all's routine' & I had to let them in for 'a walk through' which would just take a few mins.......... To make a long story short, here's my unit-door security system: Huge delicate metal windchimes on a long wood stick, dangling from the chain lock - they tingle when someone passes by my door ! GF gave me a 'Lady Alarm' !! - It's a door stop with an alarm that is The Loudest Noise I have Ever Heard !!! Dead bolt. After the near-break in/mugging/robbery incident, this is what I added: A small triangle 'end table' which I stick, pointed end, right at the door handle. On top & set precariously close to falling I have a clang'y container loaded with pens & nails & other metal LOL - - No Way could I NOT wake should that container get jostled & crash to the floor !!

Wait, someone please help with the number sequences from the displays. I believe I know

The following is what I see in the photos of the keypad display. I used tricks such as selection highlighting, brightening my screen, and looking at the screen at an oblique angle to see all of it. There were some things I couldn't see but discerned by logic and by statements of investigators in the reports. Those things I put in red font.

Correct, 40 is the Master code, 41 in 1 partition master code, 42 is 2 partition master code (partition = parts of the house)

Yes, but not sure that "Query" at the bottom is correct. It might be "Memory" as pointed out by irishchook.

If you see any other errors, please point them out.

irishchook, many thanks for your work enhancing those photos! I'm hesitant to ask, but if you're up for it, have a look at the ones I have listed as 4:11 and 4:19 (15, 16, and 17) on the 27th to see if they're correct and at item 0011 to see if you can make out the time.
