Nancy in Canada has a good question. Why would he go to a Mazda dealer in Oakland if he owned a Volkswagon?

As it happens, I had a Mazda and took it to a Porsche dealer for service - they do a variety of imports and their mechanics were better (and nicer and hotter, important in my single days) than the local Mazda dealer . My car was bought from a Mazda dealer in an different city and the car was off warranty when I moved and realized I didn't care for the dealer in the new city. A friend recommended the Porsche dealer. I used them until I got rid of the car. Just my experience and thought I would flow that out here.

I wonder why he would purchase gas twice in one day? For example, on 1-11-73 he purchased gas 2 times from 2 different stations, and on 1-12-73 he purchased gas twice from 2 more. That's 4 gas purchases in 2 days.

Upon relooking at SherlockJr's entries for gas purchases on these days, it seems clear that they are checks issued to make payments on four different gasoline charge cards. That would make it not suspicious at all. He merely wrote out four checks over two days to pay for a months worth of gas purchases.

IMHO, the TWA payments (and the timing of the flight charged) is the smoking gun. If we can find out where and how many tickets (and if there was a one-way child ticket), then we have cracked this wide open.

i noticed he had some high gas purchases a few were for 13-14 price range how much was gas then? and how big were tanks? could these gas stations have food and soda like they do today and he was buying snacks i find it odd that in 1973 to fill ur gas tank it would cost u 14 bucks. my tank to get it half full is 15 bucks at around 325 a gallon

If memory serves, I believe he traded his Volkswagon in on a Green Mazda. This is the vehicle he was using when my surveillance was undertaken.

When someone purchases a travel insurance policy, you are required to provide an itinerary of your trip, as well as number of passengers. Although AA has purchased TWA, there may still be separate TWA records from flights that far back. TWA used to be based out of NYC.

A few more thoughts while we are looking back at the travel issue again. Would this be enough info to possibly ask again for LE to inquire into the passport issue for Anna? I recall Annasmom sent a letter awhile back and my understanding was she had no response.

I'm assuming no credit card statements exist since my question wasn't answered. Is it possible to get copies of statements from that far back?

Just a few questions...sorry if this has been discussed. What was the loan from Bank of America for? Was that for student loans?

Also, did anyone notice how high his car insurance was? It appears he was paying monthly, (Except for one month). Around $30.00 a month in 1973 , (approx $360.00/year). I looked back at some of my old records, and in 1986 I was paying $190.00 a year for full coverage on my 1st new car. (1986 Ford Taurus) Okay...so I wasn't one of the cool kids...LOL

Could he have had 2 cars? All the gas, the multitudes of parking tickets, then the $3000 deposit, (selling one?).

Doogie is probably right, he was probably paying his credit card bills for his gas charges...but how strange to have 6 gas credit cards...then the price of stamps to mail the bills, the extra time to write all of the separate checks, the cost of checks, envelopes etc. Seems kind of frivolous for 2 penny pincher's. Why charge $2.00 worth of gas when you withdraw $200 to $300 in cash each month. Why not just pay cash? Strange.

One nagging thought: As secretive as these two were, it is odd that Waters would have left a paper trail for what may have been the transporting of Anna to whoever raised her (the TWA ticket/tickets). However, there is always the possibility that his mental illness may have lead to him making mistakes in the implementation of the abduction.

In summary of what we know:

1. Waters obtained a passport prior to Anna's disappearance under false pretenses - his was not destroyed in a fire.

2. Waters obtained and later returned a pair of binoculars which could have been used to observe the farm from the high vantage point on Higgins Canyon Road. (The dates for when he obtained the binoculars is unknown, but he returned them in March of some year.)

3. His check register shows that he started making payments on a TWA Airlines credit card in February 1973. It would be logical that this was for travel that occured in January 1973. The payments seem to reflect a minimum of a charge $500 which may represent more than one ticket.

If the information about these tickets can be obtained and the prove to be for one or more adults and a child, then we will then know three things:

1. Who took Anna
2. That she was alive as of the flight
3. A starting point to search for where Anna is today

We need to find find out about these tickets. Does anyone out there have any connections at American Airlines that give us a starting point of investigation?

One interesting thing from SherlockJr's posts from above is that there appears to have been checks written either on or immediately after 1/16/73. This would seem to indicate that he was at home and was doing mundane tasks such as bill paying during this period. If he took Anna, held her for a couple of days then made his trip, then there would be some sort of gap in late January. I will scour the data and see if that pattern emerges.
