Hero who saved Princess Anne from kidnap now selling medal to pay for funeral

EXCLUSIVE: Bristol boxer and hero Ronnie Russell is now hard up 46 years on from saving Princess Anne's life and is reluctantly putting the George Medal he received for bravery up for auction to pay for his funeral

A hero who saved Princess Anne in a kidnap bid told how the Queen paid off his mortgage in gratitude.

Ronnie Russell, now 72, tackled gunman Ian Ball after he shot four people in the 1974 London drama.

Hero who saved Princess Anne from kidnapper breaks silence after 46 years

I didn’t know that this had happened to Princess Anne. It is amazing Her Majesty paid off this brave man’s mortgage. I hope he doesn’t have to sell his medal.

This came up on my local news:
The Queen owns a shopping centre in Leeds – guess which one
(it's called Crown Point by the way!) I thought these bits were interesting:

  • Across England and Wales, the Crown Estate and the Duchy of Lancaster owns 7,936 plots.
  • The Crown Estate owns around half of the UK’s foreshore (the bit of land exposed between high tide and low tide), some substantial areas of coastline and virtually all the UK’s seabed from average low tide to the 12 nautical mile limit.
  • It also owns mineral rights across around 115,000 hectares where it does not own the surface land. Naturally occurring gold and silver in the UK, collectively known as 'Mines Royal', are managed by the Crown Estate.

I read about this a little while ago, as far as I recall the shooter is STILL in prison/hospital.

Princess Anne kidnap attempt – from the archive, 23 May 1974

This was a petition to release him a few years ago, not sure if he is still locked up or not:

Prince William says Princess Charlotte is 'lovely, just like my wife' | Daily Mail Online

ETA:
The Duke of Cambridge, 37, showed he was a doting father and a loving husband in one sweet sentence yesterday as he responded to a member of the public during a walkabout in South Wales yesterday.

People magazine reports: 'One woman called out to the royal dad, telling him that his 4-year-old daughter was her favorite. The proud dad replied, “Yes, she is lovely — just like my wife”.

Queen of scarves! Her Majesty brightens up an unusually sombre outfit with her signature accessory as she visits a pumping station on the Sandringham Estate

Lovely scarf.

There is something about HM in which she is able to make many sartorial items and styles that we generally think of as very "old lady"....interesting and beautiful. I think part of this phenomenon is simply that she embraces her age. I never have the feeling that she's trying to look "forever young". She's always "age appropriate".

Katy Perry’s dresses are hideous she wore this horror the other night. The dress she wore to see Prince Charles was inappropriate.

Image from Katy Perry wore a $2,650 pink cape that looks like a tiered cake

My comment here ties in with the earlier one about HM: She never tries to look like something she's not (young!!!) nor does she dress to shock or gain attention. (Aside from the fact that she often wears bright colors, apparently, so that her subjects can find her in a crowd.)

HM exudes confidence and, as a result, is probably the only nonagenarian in the world who is constantly admired for her style.

Jeremy Clarkson tells Meghan Markle to 'get a grip' as he says Duchess of Sussex should toughen up | Daily Mail Online

Jeremy Clarkson?!!! :D Guess he should know with the amount of blunders he's made. JMO :D

Jeremy Clarkson tells Meghan Markle to 'get a grip' as he says 'crying' Duchess of Sussex should toughen up
  • Jeremy Clarkson criticised Meghan Markle and said everyone needs to get a grip
  • Comes weeks after Meghan and Harry announced they were moving to Canada
  • Meghan previously claimed it 'wasn't enough to survive, you have to thrive'

Meghan Markle could make '$100 million' this year, media exec Simon Huck says

“She's not going to do traditional commercials, she's not going to be doing a perfume. She'll do things with...a Netflix."

“They are sought-after people. They are young, beautiful, intelligent, interesting people and Oprah [Winfrey] has already partnered with Harry on a mental health docuseries,” the "Objectified" host continued of the pair, who said in their Jan. 8. announcement that they will "work to become financially independent" of the crown.

I posted in a previous thread a video of Princess Anne and her then husband, Mark Phillips talking about the kidnapping attempt on one of the 70s talk shows...you can look it up on YouTube if you're interested.
