Bumping Tricia's opening post for those who missed it or are ignoring it:

Hey Everyone,

I have received many requests for a new Royal Family thread.

This thread will stay open as long as you all follow terms of service.

Here is an example:
If you don't like Megan Markle you can certainly express your opinion as long as you are not rude, nasty, and in general you do not act like a jerk..if you need more of an explanation as to what this means I can't tell you anything else. If you can't discuss without crossing these boundaries then please do not post.

If someone posts something you disagree with please post and express your disagreement in a respectful manner.

Stop the nasty mean arguing.

Finally, it is not a good idea to insult the mods in any way. The mods work their behinds off for us and they keep Websleuths running. We owe them our gratitude.

The reality is Websleuths IS NOT a Democracy. In the end any final decision is on me. While I try to be fair with everyone some of you may disagree. If you do disagree please do not post about it in any thread on Websleuths.

Let's see how this goes.

Thread is now open for discussion.

This is such a cool photo

Prince Charles and Baroness Floella Benjamin share a Namaste greeting during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, London, where she was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire. #Royal #coronovarius

Quoting myself, but I just looked closer at the photo and have a question. Anybody know what those silver things are hanging off the back of PC's shoes? I don't even know what to google to try to figure it out

Really???? I would never have guessed. TY!

I just googled and found this article that shows more spur-wearing which I never noticed before.

Poor, poor Princess Beatrice. I fear her wedding will be halted AGAIN due to coronavirus. She has had quite the unlucky year.

I doubt if spurs would be the deciding factor and not something new or exciting and they are part of many dress uniform. His brother wore the Blues and Royals ceremonial uniform for his wedding and also wore spurs.

They wouldn't be much of a novelty for either brother because they're also worn when they play polo.

What part of Harry saying for years that he wished he was not born a Royal do people not understand?

He loved being just Harry in the military.

and please! What is more glamorous and attention getting than being a Royal? An actress can compare to being a Royal?

All of the comments about Meghan being grasping and climbing while leaving it behind are ludicrous.

<modsnip: Please don't bring race into the discussion.>

Human,

What some of us don't understand is that Harry wishing he'd "not been born a Royal", his recent "call me Harry", etc., is that he could have opted out of all the "Royal" life has to offer. Instead he certainly hasn't renounced his many royal titles or any of the incredible, incredible, perks associated with being a .....senior.... royal.

We who are truly commoners, would love to be able to complain of the horrible "press intrusion" and other impositions of royal life. We, though, are left to watch Harry and Meghan suck it all up, enjoying drivers, mansions, private jet travel, world jaunts, "mega" green nurseries, and the opportunity to be interviewed or give talks in front of the all sorts of individuals, groups, the public, etc., all the while complaining. (Not to mention, constantly hectoring the rest of us about whatever their pet cause is at the moment.)

So, here's my offer: Harry and Meghan, come live my life. I'll switch with you! No one answers my door; no one gives armed security detail; no one offers me their mega-mansions by the sea for vacay; no one does my dishes. Yes, there are things one has to give up for the incredibly privileged life the royals lead, and that includes doing boring things; receiving bad and, yes, even mocking, press at times; obeying the "rules", formal and informal; and being accessible to the public. The public, who are required to fund a good portion of your rarified life, want photos. They want to see Archie. They want to know who delivered him, and where and how. (Think of it this way: Years gone by, it was required that there were witnesses to the actual birth. It's gotten better, believe me.) The public wants you to show them some respect, and pose for them and give access. That's the price of the privilege. So, if they don't like it -give it up. It's that simple.

I understand that you like both of them, but to me they are insufferable -we see them in entirely opposing lights.

Yep, I do living history from this time period. You sew two legs, and then add a waistband. Yep, "open drawers" work very well in "the necessary" (bathroom, 'loo'.) They do overlap in front & behind. I could take a picture and all you would see if fabric. I could, but I won't.

Wearing a hoop under your 10-yards-of-fabric-dress, well, makes the bathroom a challenge. Split drawers make that possible!

Going up or down stairs in that dress & hoop, well, the drawers aren't any help. One cannot see her feet on stairs. Try going up a flight of stairs with your eyes closed sometime. Hold the banister, please.

(BTW a properly fitted mid-century corset is comfortable. I have moved folding chairs, played catch, and churned ice cream wearing them. )

OT: COVID 19: adult son is already working remotely, and I will be office only -- no public contact -- until April. Relieved at the Laughing homestead, yup. Mr. Laughing is retired, not much change for him!

No one owns other people nowadays, do they?

Many of us pay for all kinds of things. People in the US pay for the pres and Congress. Does that entitle people for pics of their babies?

Some people are born into wealth. No matter what they do, they will always be the child of Bill Gates or will be a Rockefeller, for instance.

There is a program or maybe even a book that I heard about several years ago on public radio about the difficulties of being super rich.

People always asking you for money. Who is your real friend?

We all have our issues, don’t we. I would not want theirs.

Having lots of money does not get happiness. Look at all of the drug issues with the rich.

I used to want to win the lottery. I am so thankful I never did

I wouldnt want it either. I would be too anxious for the safety of my family. Too many crackpots (think John Lennon's killer) and serious criminals out there. The risk of kidnap for a family like the Beckhams must be a constant worry.I would struggle with having bad photos ridiculed by the internet world and people commenting on my weight. Just not for me.

The other thing that must be hard for some who lets say chased and lost the fame or celebrity, is how do they make a living? I dont mean Harry and Meghan, but say a Love Island wannabe. They can hardly work at Tesco when it all falls down. V tricky, but then they have to chase their dream I guess.

I know Meghan chose her path, so you could argue that she knew and possibly chose that lifestyle(up to a point IMO). But Harry was born into it, had no choice. The notoriety of his mum would never have allowed him to live a quiet understated royal life, as some countries sometimes do. I just hope when things settle he might find what he wants/ needs but I'm afraid it's not going to come easily.

Prince Harry reunites with Meghan Markle and baby Archie in Canada after final engagement as a senior working royal

Duke of Sussex has had an emotional reunion with his wife Meghan Markle and their baby boy Archie Harrison after he flew back to Canada after his final visit to the UK as a working royal. Prince Harry was spotted on a commercial flight with his security team, travelling to Victoria International Airport on Thursday, according to a fellow passenger on Twitter. The couple are now both back with their son after completing their final engagements as senior working members of the royal family earlier this week
