“Royal aides have apparently hit back at claims that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are 'single-handedly' modernising the monarchy.

One senior staffer said the Queen was the most modernising head of state in the royal family's history, according to a report.

They added that she and the Duke of Edinburgh had transformed the monarchy from a medieval institution into a modern one, it is claimed.

The comments were made in response to sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claiming they were dragging the family into the 21st century.”

Queen 'our most modernising monarch ever' say 'aides' to Meghan and Harry's pals

It would be great to be a fly on the wall in Buckingham Palace right now to hear what the royal family and the staff are saying about this situation.
It seems as though H & M are trying to take credit for things Her Majesty The Queen has been doing all along.

Team Queen Elizabeth for me

https://nypost.com/2019/10/23/princess-diana-pushed-her-stepmother-down-a-staircase-documentary/

It was September 1989, and Princess Diana was staying at her ancestral home of Althorp in Northamptonshire, England, when her fury for her stepmother boiled over.

The royal, then 28, berated Countess Raine Spencer, who had married her father, Johnnie, 13 years earlier. Then she pushed her so hard, she fell down the stairs.

“[Raine] was badly bruised and was dreadfully upset,” Raine’s former personal assistant, Sue Howe, explains in a revealing new documentary. “It was a cruel and heartless thing to do.”

The fraught relationship between troubled Diana and larger-than-life socialite Raine is the focus of the film “Princess Diana’s ‘Wicked’ Stepmother,” premiering on the Smithsonian Channel Monday.

I have a question and I am not being snarky. Exactly what have PH and MM done to 'modernize' the Monarchy?
I guess I have not noticed the items except for breaking protocol. I could have easily overlooked some things pertaining to the 'modernization'. How has or is it being 'modernized'???

I'm with you - I'm not seeing it either and I can't help but recall the line from "The Queen" - when she says something about tony Blair "modernizing" us? I can't remember the exact line but it was something about modernizing and protocol. It seems this may just be some hype by the news media - since they don't exactly spell out what this "modernizing" is - IMO.

I asked that exact question a day or two ago and one of the answers that I got had to do with mental health awareness. There was another point, too, but I can't remember what it was right at the moment.

Eta: found it

I read somewhere about emotional catastrophisizing. It can come on when someone who has suffered ptsd, trauma, has another event (s) that trigger the original trauma.

It was pointed out Harry talked a lot about “safety of his family”, reason for private jets, breaking down at children’s event speech, law suit to the press, and in the africa documentary. It’s a recurring theme for him.

Harry looks distraught. It could be that becoming a husband and father has sent him into a total state of anxiety and panic?

I think Meghan’s statement about ‘existing rather than living’ is revealing as it might be her attempt to help Harry sort out Harry.

Meghan, I observe, has the ability to put on an outward appearance that excudes everything is fine. This may be one of the things that really attracted Harry. -A place to hide.

But as a couple they are not in sync. He looks distraught, distrustful, stern. She looks the opposite.

In the Africa documentary they toss out a bunch of issues and euphemisms that actually deflect from the core issue. Is it really about a rift with a brother, no one asks if I’m ok, stiff upper lip, grass is greener? No, it’s deeper than that.

Fear and panic is a dibilitating state. That stiff upper lip is a modality of protection. —Imo. And for Harry who is a brand new father, who might be terrified to be a father even though he wants it more than anything, it gives the space to work it out.

Where I think Meghan is struggling is with the formality of lifestyle. Formality of family lifestyle.

California is miles and worlds away from the U.K. —The informality of Meghan’s upbringing, the lack of boundaries in members of her family is the opposite.

Truly there are stark opposites... Meghan must feel like an island, her mom so far away, and Harry has a huge family.

So, in my long-winded armchair observation, they both need help. And, that’s the message being transmitted from the documentary.

A lot of people do great work in this world. That commonality gives great strength of purpose. But that’s not what defines friendship, marriage, parenthood, and family.

I saw an interview with Sir Paul McCartney who is forever the most charming man ever, and he wisely said he always viewed his fame as ‘some other person over there’, ‘oh yeah, that guy’, and that guy is wholly separate from the boy, man, husband, father, grandpa, and consummate friend that is who he is in life. No stranger to the depths of tragic loss and going on, his wisdom and balance reminds me of another British attribute - a great sense of humor.

CA is whole different world compared to the UK. I really wished they way waited until to get married. The whirlwind fairytale is now in a reality phase and they both need to adhere to PC and the Queen to survive.

The Duchess of Cambridge stunned shoppers today when she popped into Sainsbury's to buy Halloween outfits for Charlotte and George.

Kate was seen between 11am and 12am this morning at the self-service counter.

“Wearing a black ensemble, Kate even asked some children what they were going to dress up as for Halloween while shopping at Sainsbury's in the Hardwick Industrial Estate, Norfolk.

Mum-of-four Kathy Whittaker, 53, was shocked to see Kate browse Halloween outfits while a brawny six foot bodyguard lingered close by.

Kathy explained: "Another shopper said that Kate was in the shop near the clothing and pointed where she was to me. I just couldn't believe it.

"She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures.

We are very lucky to have the Duchess of Cambridge as our future Queen I really have a lot of respect for the couple and how down to earth they both are despite their circumstances. The do a great service to our country and do it without whining about how hard things are for them.
I have always loved the Duchess Catherine

Re Harry and his emotions.

I taught children in poverty for all of my decades of teaching. When I got into a different program where I had to go on home visits in the same school, I had an assistant.

The first home visits that we went on, we cried when we got back to the school. My assistant had worked in a different program in an even poorer school. They often washed the children’s clothing.

Now that Harry is a father, he sees in actuality what it means . Before it was more abstract. He could go home to his parties and sports.

I think he adores his wife and child and has increased deep feelings of love that he never experienced before.

I imagine some of you may have seen or worked with people in extreme circumstances, Life is never the same when I realized how fortunate I am .

Every time I saw an infant, I thought of that child with the bright little eyes going home to hell.

Harry has seen far worse.

In my last years I worked with the homeless. I had to present a cheerful exterior but inside I was crying knowing the odds of ever breaking out were stacked against them for so many reasons.

Life is bizarre in its unfairness.

A lot of people do great work in this world. That commonality gives great strength of purpose. But that’s not what defines friendship, marriage, parenthood, and family.

Perhaps there are things that they have in common. I’m sure as she grew up people did not think she resembled her father. The same has followed (ginger )Harry around.. tabloids questioning if indeed his mother’s lover is his father.
Possibly they relate on many levels we have no idea exist.
I watched an old interview of Meghan when she was popular on Suits...she was quick, smart, funny, natural with her answers. I bet those very things attracted Harry to her. But possibly that part of her.. she has to keep pushed down or cut off from showing. I mean FGS..Her personality. Sad.
I’ve seen videos & read where people accuse pregnant Meghan of “stealing the event” by showing her baby bump. I watched. She pushed her coat back more than on one occasion. But, She did it knowingly as cameras were rolling. IMO it could of been something she was instructed to do ( make sure your bump is showing) Like a - don’t turn around, face forward instruction. I know my DD put her hand on her bump or wanted her bump to show in all photos so she didn’t just look fat, lol.
I think these two are living in an impossible situation. I’m not British, though. I’m California born & raised. But...It appears to me Harry (way before MM) is a lot like his mother wanting to experience what is outside the Royal life.

I think of that saying....
A fish and a bird can fall in love
But where will they live?

I do hope they their find their way and stay together as a family.
All MOO

Toronto but was seen regularly visiting her Mom in LA

Yes, Meghan is a California gal, born and raised there. And her mom is there. LA is her hometown.

California is a sunny, fun loving place, but it is a completely different world from the U.K. In fact, it is completely different than the east coast (NYC) here in the USA.

While differences can be very exciting, I too think H&M rushed into everything.

I can’t help but think the BRF would have been fine if H&M didn’t go at breakneck speed through their life, a whirlwind of projects, while she was pregnant, back on the whirlwind two months after a baby, and took the time to assimilate Meghan into getting to know the BRF better.

The documentary left me feeling like they were crashing and burning. Take a step back already.
