Serious question @sillybilly (and anyone else in BC) - how are the locals that actually live there taking the news of an impending move? Will they be welcomed with open arms but left to get on with a more "normal life"?

IMO, depending on where they take up residence, and trusting the location will be somewhat private, the locals will very likely warmly welcome the Sussexes, and will respect and be somewhat protective of their need for personal space. I trust and hope that will be the case.

I think a lot of younger Canadians feel the monarchy should be abolished and that royalty is a big waste of money. I think older folks (including Yours Truly) who have grown up with the Crown and its rich history in shaping British Columbia and other parts of Canada are much more accepting of it.

Reading the various MSM on this recent announcement, there are many Canadians who are vocal in their oppositional comments about the monarchy and this proposed move, but I believe those who are more accepting of both the Crown and PH and MM relocating to Canada, really don't comment as much as those who are in opposition.

All JMO.

Meghan Markle breaks cover for the first time since leaving the UK | Daily Mail Online

I hope the person whos home they're staying at doesn't turn out to be super dodgy
"And the multi-millionaire has also declined to identify himself voluntarily ahead of new legislation in the Canadian province which will make it compulsory for the owners of properties to be publicly named.

A realtor involved in the 2014 sale of the home said it was bought by a billionaire who is neither Canadian nor or American for $18 million CAD - $14 million. The buyer's identity was subject to a non-disclosure agreement, the realtor, who declined to be named, said."

Theres loads of photos of Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and others wearing tiaras before marriage

Princess Anne married in 1973, here she is in 1970

Perhaps it's a more modern move then. Eugenie had never worn one and neither has Beatrice and they're the only "blood" princesses of the generation.

I think it was an old tradition because it would have been so rare to be single past a certain age. I imagine if there had been a coronation or they were "senior" royals and invited to state dinners they would have worn one before now

LOL or should that be MDR?!
Whereabouts do you live Tony?
Not sure about the MDR? Near a bayou outside of Lafayette. O dang just got the MDR— first language is Cantabrian Spanish.
And I’m a she—incorrectly translated g-ggrandma name Antonia to tony instead of Toni

I too am female by birth, but here on WS I present myself as a male cartoon dog.

I try not to overthink that

Wonder if they'll go for a splash in the mirror pool, best thing about Bradford, I took my kids a couple of summers ago and they loved it. This is City Hall just next to it.

And we love your dog! I’m actually a female presenting as a female meerkat. She used to be au naturale, but the tutu is a long-standing in-joke with @DexterMorgan whom I haven’t seen in way too long. Now I can’t even remember how it started. :D

Hubby is Canadian, and his take is most Canadians don't give a s***.

I’m a little suspicious of the one purportedly from Harry on Meghan’s phone. Although it would be hard to get hold of her phone, it could be someone else. I’ve seen it happen on threads, and a friend was a recipient of a text by a husband on a friend’s phone, ending their friendship. But you’d think Meghan would have seen the text and followed up. The whole thing was a mess. And the way her father has acted since the wedding gives me pause. I don’t trust him at all.

Was there anything written or reported that his heart surgery was in Mexico or California or elsewhere? He would have to voluntarily allow the High Court to view his HIPPA release paperwork if it was done in the US. Otherwise it’s back and forth as usual. Just a thought.

IF there were a national competition for self-pity, Harry and Meghan would wear the crown.

Rarely has there been a public couple more addicted to whingeing.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren't victims - they're the oppressive King and Queen of Woke

This is a pretty scathing opinion piece. It also highlights the rough road ahead by jumping into American celeb culture. Hollywood culture is a bubble. They could be facing some bumpy waters here. imo.

It also highlights QE and what duty, diplomacy, and finesse really means.

Some of these opinions reflect what people really think. I think Harry might be in for some rude awakenings as all of this backlash sinks in.

really good article!
