I’m sorry but I find it very Hollywood-hanger-on-like to also add “no name yet. Story. Story....it’s a $tory .....get back to us - for the details of our story.
Yawners...JMO.

I think all the royals have waited a couple of days before announcing the baby's name. It's how they roll.

The Queen was the future heir from being born due to Edward not having children.

ETA. It wasn't expected she actually would still be 'heir' growing up, as that would change once (if) Edward had a child & obviously no-one at the time could have predicted what we know now ...

IIRC a younger brother had at least one son, there was talk of skipping Bertie, HRH Elizabeth's father because both his children were female.

2 younger brothers, IIRC, the Gloucesters & the Kents?

YMMV

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has gone into labour.
The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of Monday morning, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

A further announcement "will be made soon" it said.

That would never have been an option for serious consideration. There was enough resistance to Edward's abdication without skipping the next in line. A woman on the throne is not a big deal in England but tinkering with the laws of succession is a huge deal.

Meghan Markle gave birth at hospital after axing home birth plan | Daily Mail Online

  • Duchess of Sussex was taken to hospital by her security team under a cloak of secrecy
  • 37-year-old's plans for a home birth were changed because she was a week overdue
  • Even senior royals were kept in the dark about her secret trip to hospital on Sunday
  • William and Kate are itching to see their new nephew, according to a palace aide
It is not known whether Meghan, 37, was induced but sources say she remained there overnight before her baby was born at 5.26am on Monday morning, with an elated Prince Harry at her side.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment but sources confirmed to the Mail that a hospital delivery had taken place.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Gives Birth to a Boy

LONDON — The Duke and Duchess of Sussex — better known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — on Monday welcomed their first child, a boy, the first interracial baby in the British monarchy’s recent history.

The newborn is seventh in line to the British throne, behind Prince Harry, whose marriage last year to Meghan brought historic change to the royal family. It is not clear whether the child will receive a royal title, like those bestowed on the three children of Prince William, Harry’s older brother, and William’s wife, Catherine.
[...]
The newborn boy weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, the royal couple wrote on Instagram; a name had not been chosen yet.

My goodness the press, lol

She gave birth rag mags. It’s a done deal. Who cares where. You can climb out of her uterus now

While we wait, can anyone explain the whole last name thing?? How does it work for the royals?

  • #292
It’s not really very nice that they didn’t name the doctor and nurses that attended her in hospital. She didn’t do it alone.

And then they drive the trio back in secret to Frogmore that morning? Whaaaaaa?

They would be hounded by the press though so it is understandable. I am sure they were thanked sufficiently privately.

That just made me realize...

When the birth certificate is registered it will say where baby was born. I remember seeing Charlottes and Louis’

Has the Queen bestowed a Princely title on the baby yet?? I had to take my darling kitty to the vet. Missing everything today. LOL

We will know on Wednesday at the photo op what his name and title is. Don’t have a time for it yet.

Is your kitty ok @JDG ?

I think Harry will honour his Mum somehow in his son’s name I can see Spencer being in it.

Not really a surname, more of an indicator of your title. Indicates the "House" of your lineage with a geographical component.

Cornwall, Cambridge, Edinburgh, York, Sussex, Kent, and Gloucester are duchies, similar to a county. Sorta.

Windsor is a name selected in the 20th century. Mountbatten as well, both to leave behind/cover/disguise how ethnically German the BRF was at the time due to the tensions of WWI.

Probably throwing words at your question, not a real answer.

I'll invite some people who actually would know:

Video at link.
How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension but we're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all the lovely support from everybody out there," the new father said.
The beaming Duke of Sussex spoke to news cameras in Windsor less than an hour after Buckingham Palace revealed Meghan had gone into labour
"It was amazing, absolutely incredible. As I say, I am so incredibly proud of my wife and, as every father and parent would ever say your baby is absolutely amazing, this little baby is absolutely to die for."

I think the child's surname is Wales. Harry was known as Henry Wales in the army, so I think that's the family name.

Of course the real surname is Saxe-Coburg Gotha but that was changed during WW1.

Harry’s son will be a Mountbatten-Windsor according to Sky News earlier today. He used Wales in the army so he would integrate better in the troop with a more normal surname.

IIRC both used Wales.

At their schools, aren't HRH George & HRH Charlotte known as Cambridge, indicating this child will use (be styled?) Sussex?

I'll give it a try...

The British royal family uses Windsor as a last name.
In 1917 King George V changed the family house from the German House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the House of Windsor.
Elizabeth II full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor
BUT
If needed, royals who are descended from Elizabeth II in the male line use Mountabtten-Windsor as a last name by those who are not styled HRH and title of Prince or Princess

I guess having HRH and Prince or Princess allows them to use their titles as last names?
HRH Prince William of Wales, William Wales in the military but now goes by HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his family uses the title Cambridge. I do wonder when William becomes Prince of Wales do his children also become Wales's? Prince George of Wales etc..

HRH Prince Henry of Wales, Henry Wales in the military but now goes by HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Sussex and this family uses the title Sussex

HRH Princess Beatrice of York
HRH Princess Eugenie of York

Now Prince Edwards kids...Lady Louise, Alice, Elizabeth, Mary Mountbatten-Windsor
James, Viscount Severn. James, Alexander, Philip, Theo Mountbatten-Windsor
