I was going to walk away from this thread, but now I read:

Future King-of-England, current Prince George of Cambridge already has the nickname “Archie”

This has to be evident to everyone in their family- like Uncle Harry and Great Grandmama Queen Elizabeth

Yet Harry & Megan now name their own child “Archie”

I’m beginning to get a picture of Harry that makes him likeable, but not capable of serious thought or respect to his own family.

He's the "fun" uncle, I suppose. The one who is always cutting up and goofing around, but you don't take too seriously. Poor thing. Personally, I think he'll mature beyond all this some day, probably in the next couple of years. In spite of it all, JMO, he will be a good loving parent. But, yeah, I have a feeling there's a bumpy road ahead for him, poor guy.

Especially with the cartoon Archie kid with red hair......maybe that's just my generation though.

That, in addition to the freckles, is what made me immediately think of that cartoon character also. Also growing up in the 60s made me think of that, but the younger folks may not know who that is lol.

At least it wasn't Jughead!

Is the "Master" name a copycat of a name some celebrities gave their child recently. Can't recall who, but didn't some celeb give their child the first name of "Mister"?

In my family of Scottish descent, all young boys are called Master until they are older.

The name actually already has ties to the British Royal Family. At the start of this year, Prince George apparently told a dog walker that he was called 'Archie'. According to The Sun, the five-year-old was out for a walk with his grandmother, Carole Middleton, when he told the passerby his nickname.

Yes, of course, most of us are aware of that. The same formal address was common in the US, too, when I was growing up. However, I've never heard of someone making it a permanent name of the child.

Oh well! They like to do things new and different! Master or Mister, it's different!

If I was MM/PH, she would be fired as soon as I found a replacement and maybe sooner, since this should be kind of a lull time for them now. Totally unacceptable.

JMO, they may have a difficult time finding a replacement. They've already gone through a lot of employees, including PR people. Apparently, it's a very stressful, demanding work environment, moreso than in other royal households.
Good luck to them, though! Maybe they'll find someone.

Oh, ok. Well, that's kind of standard in most society in GB and the US, so...ok. Maybe declaring it formally to the public means they feel a little insecure about the fact that he doesn't have an HRH title yet. I understand he will have one eventually, when Charles becomes king. I suppose then he will become Archie, Earl of Dumbarton or "Earl Archie".

That's how I took it too, he'll be Master until he's old enough to be called Mister. Very royal and proper!

The announcer introduced the ring bearer at my wedding reception as Master XXXX Jones. When I asked my mom about it, she said that's how boys under 12 are supposed to be addressed. I had no clue. I guess it's a lost tradition in America, at least in my neck of the woods.

Did you family the card game Happy Families as kids? The cards were Mr, Mrs, Master and Miss. The Butler in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air used to refer to Carlton and Will as "Master"
