My friend's named their little boy 'Archie' a few years ago. At the time I thought it was kind of an odd choice. But now I love the name. It really fits him so well. He is so happy and smiley and cute.

So I love the choice of the name for the newest royal.

Hmm, I think "Spencer" would have been so wonderful. Maybe "Archie" is a nice name in UK, it reminds me of "Archie Bunker", a show in the '70's. Or an excellent name for a cat.

To my ears William, Harry, George, and Archie are 'old man' names. But that's just a generational thing. These names are all back 'in' and it's neither here nor there if they're to my personal taste or not.

I dunno. That's very remote. He was alive in the 1600's. I don't buy that. They didn't give him the name of his ancestor, Archibald, or Campbell. They gave him the nickname. Harry's provenance has abundant interesting naming opportunities.

I'm just always of the belief to name your children something that gives them options, depending on who they turn out to be. Give them an option to control the name they want to present to the world. That's why I like the more formal name, with a nickname they can change if they don't like the options.

Here’s MO. I think Meghan and Harry want to show their independence and “normality” hence naming the bub Archie but by having Mountbatten-Windsor as the surname defers to tradition. Bit like a bet both ways. Archie is casual leading into Harrison and then the formal surname.
It’s 8am Thursday morning here in Australia and whilst going about my morning the name Archie has grown on me. Our papers are mostly showing the photo of the new family with the Queen and Phillip and Doria.

Mountbatten isn't tradition. None of the Queen's children carry the name Mountbatten because they are from the house of Windsor. So, that's a nice tribute from Harry to his grandfather, a man he has said he is close to. And interestingly the man he looks the most like, Prince Harry looks so much like his grandfather when Prince Phillip was young and red haired.

Princess Anne was the most "normal" of the royals. Kids didn't have royal titles and she gave a daughter a really cool, non-royal and controversial name, Zara.

Harrison is very American. It will be interesting to eventually find out why those two unlikely names were chosen.

I think I'm swayed against it as there are 2 or 3 Archies at our school, and in my opinion it does not sound so great with a Leeds accent!

Every Archie in my daughter's school when she was in primary was a complete .

I like Harrison think that's lovely but not so sure about Archie but each to their own.

I hope the media start to lay off her I find the whole situation about distasteful with the digs at her and her family sticking the boot in.

She's not my favourite royal (Harry is) but they are obviously very happy so good luck to them.

I don't understand what you mean by this. Women don't have an instant flat stomach after having a baby. She would have no need for a pillow. It's completely normal. After delivery, it takes about 4 weeks for a uterus to contract to it's normal size. The decrease in an average postpartum woman's tummy will be slow but steady.

I am disappointed a name remembering Dinah was not used.

Harry and Megan have done many things in their relationship to include the memory of Dinah. Why stop now?

But we don't know that for sure. I got on Google and found several baby name combining websites. And when you combine Charles Diana and Doria.....one of the blended names that pop up is Archie.

Exactly! Women don’t have an instant flat stomach after giving birth. That’s why if she used a surrogate she would have to fake a post-baby bump.

Some here were so sure the pregnancy was fake I just expected to hear more complaints, but was glad all the complaints were about the name ‘Archie.’
