Yes, the press need to grow up. Trooping of the Colour will be a family event and even ladies on Mat Leave go to family events. I realize that being on the balcony is semi-'job wise' but its still the family.

I'd imagine they all have a wonderful, yummy lunch just before or just after and she doesn't have to miss that, she is, after all, family. Baby Archie will have another chance to see his clan as well. Not that he cares, too young but its nice for everyone else to be with him.

Whenever I've been to Windsor Castle, the grounds are all very well manicured and many of the gardens are well established and lovely. Whatever they want as 'extras' should not fall to the taxpayers because they are not exactly sitting in an overgrown pasture. You know what I mean? That's why I think they should pay.

Someone had suggested they are party people and their friends likely want a more 'posh' place to party.
I'd suggest the friends do it at their homes and invite the Sussexs' over there.

Yes, no political statements please and thank you.:)

I agree entirely with everything you have posted. They must be able to use Frogmore House for entertaining as well if they wanted.

It is lovely you have been to Windsor Castle it must be a wonderful to visit. I wonder if you can tour the palaces online somehow? The nearest I have got to a royal palace was in the London eye seeing Buckingham Palace when I went down to London for specialist treatment a few years ago. I begged my consultant to let me out for a few hours before I went down to theatre and I’m glad so glad he did. That is my one of my biggest regrets that I never traveled more before I got ill.

I don’t think Meghan should feel obligated to cut short her maternity leave to have lunch with a head of state, especially one she has spoken against publicly in the past or one who has called her “nasty.” But it might just be the classy/royal thing to do if she’s up to it. In her position, she will have to meet and greet many people with whom she strongly disagrees. This is the life that she has chosen and it’s all about building bridges.

That being said, this is just me tossing the possibly crazy idea around in my head and thinking out loud, and I wouldn’t blame her in the least for staying home for any reason she chooses. :p:D:rolleyes::)

The REAL special relationship: How Queen Elizabeth has met, entertained and wowed 12 U.S. presidents from Eisenhower to Obama and now prepares for Donald Trump and Melania to be her latest guests of honor for the second time

Queen Elizabeth has met 12 U.S. Presidents during her reign | Daily Mail Online

I would love to have a conversation with Her Majesty about the Presidents she has met and what she thought of them. A book about these interactions would be fascinating but sadly it will never happen as Her Majesty would never publicly reveal this information.
So much class! My favorite is the dancing with President Ford.

She certainty isn't & shouldn't feel obligated to do anything at the moment but I do agree with ^BBM.
It's only at Grannies for lunch not the most laborious of work assignments.

Taking part in any 'Trooping of the Colour' events will not do her any favours after all this either.

She's getting dragged further & further into the mud from public comments due to this whole 'maternity leave' now - Questioning 'what's her actually 'job' is? What does she get paid for to be entitled 'maternity leave'? etc...
Add in the Frogmore refurbishment it's not helping, she not looking particular good in the eyes of general public right now -apparently o_O

:p Regarding the DM article reading past the "Nasty" part I think it's only fair to point out the whole of what *he*;) said is:

"The president said that 'I didn't know she was nasty' after he was told that Meghan once called him as 'misogynistic' and 'divisive'.

However, shortly after the comments Mr Trump heaped fulsome praise on the new mother, saying that she would make a 'very good American Princess' and that he hopes she will 'succeed'.

His kind words for Meghan are a departure from his usual approach to critics, and he seemed keen to move past the Duchess of Sussex's comments that were made to a US talks show in interview in 2016.

The President also says he 'hopes she's OK' after giving birth to baby son Archie just weeks ago."

For me, it would be something I would never do. Meet with someone who has disparaged members of my family in very ugly ways.

There would be no way for me to pretend being cordial.

What is the point? The Royals do not do policy. It is a great expense for England for no reason, I feel.

King George V and his sons at Trooping the Colour ceremony King's Birthday Parade of 1919, which was held in Hyde Park, London.

The President will be in England to visit the Queen, not all of her family. The more senior royals will attend the luncheon, there is no reason for Meghan (on Mat. Leave) to even consider going, esp as she is not invited.

President Trump is the GUEST of THE QUEEN and its an official meeting. Harry and Meghan are very secondary royals at this point in time.

I believe that in the UK, ALL women must take at least 2 weeks off after childbirth. (4 weeks if they are factory workers). They may take up to 52 weeks of paid leave, if they wish.

Its fair to say that everything the Sussexs' wants/needs are paid for, so there are 'no rules' about her 'pay' or how long, the taxpayers still pick up the tabs for the RF members.

IMO, her 'job' is to support Prince Harry and their 'jobs' are to support the Queen/the crown/the Monarchy in general. Her other 'job' is to produce children. She will have another, unless something is not right.

IMO, Kate will also have another child. Why not? They don't have to pay for them nor lose sleep. lol

No not "ALL women" ;)
(This is why it keeps being questioned)

You need to qualify for it:

Eligibility - Statutory Maternity Leave

You qualify for Statutory Maternity Leave if:
  • you’re an employee not a ‘worker’
Statutory Maternity Leave
Employees must:

Employment rights
  • required to do a minimum number of hours and expect to be paid for time worked
  • the business deducts tax and National Insurance contributions from their wages
  • they can join the business’s pension scheme
  • the business’s disciplinary and grievance procedures apply to themthey work at the business’s premises or at an address specified by the business
  • their contract sets out redundancy procedures
  • A contract, statement of terms and conditions letter
As far as I'm concerned she's not a 'contracted employee' so she can take however much time off she wishes but should really stop with the 'maternity leave' excuses.

**This is not in response directly only to clarify about 'comments' in previous post :p**

I'm sure whatever the 'renovating' being done (unless it's necessary upkeep of the actual 'Frogmore' building) they'll be paying for themselves.

Don't leave! :(

The point was to clarify why so many people (in general, not here) are making the comments about WHY is she entitled to 'maternity leave' etc.
Personally I think it's all the fault of the Media by using that term specifically o_O

Remember Fergie & Diana joking & teasing one another? Remember them poking one another with umbrellas?

Well . That happens here . Sometimes we get poked in the butt with Fergies umbrella. Sometimes we get poked with Diana's.

All the same. Just fun. Lighthearted banter.
